Usually the judge will grant bail if :
a) You are not a flight risk (which Tip isn't considering he's a celebrity and will be recognized worldwide)
b) You are an asset to your community.
C) You were not convicted of a prior VIOLENT felony...or are accused of an EXTREMELY VIOLENT crime (of Brian Nichols porportions)

In the real world a judge will DENY bail if:
a) You are a black male (Tip qualifies here)
b) You are a black male earning considerable income (check)
c) You are a black male earning considerable income from Hip Hop (DOUBLE CHECK)

I guess the 2nd set of criteria is what holds more weight in the courtroom!!! I'm praying for my man T.I. *smh*

Alan J. Baverman was sworn in as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Georgia on February 1, 2001.

Magistrate Judge Baverman was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 19, 1956. He graduated from University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, in May 1978, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He was selected as a member in Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and won the Edelweiss Award for German Studies for a paper he wrote on National Socialism. While in college, he clerked for criminal defense lawyers in Towson, Maryland.

Magistrate Judge Baverman received his Juris Doctorate degree from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia, in June 1981. While in law school, he was a summer clerk for Hon. Charles E. Moylan, Judge of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. He won the AmJur Award for Bankruptcy, and interned for the Federal Defender Program, Inc., where he worked on the Bert Lance trial, wrote the petition for a writ of certiorari and brief in Steagald v. United States, 451 U.S. 204 (1981), and tried cases under the Northern District of Georgia’s Third-Year Practice Act.

After graduation from law school, Magistrate Judge Baverman was a law clerk for United States District Judge Harold L. Murphy in Rome, Georgia, from 1981 through 1983. From 1983 until 1986, he practiced criminal defense, civil litigation and entertainment law in association with Mark J. Kadish in Atlanta. From 1986 until 1989, Magistrate Judge Baverman was an associate in the Atlanta law firm of Chilivis & Grindler, where he represented clients in civil and criminal matters.

In February 1989, Magistrate Judge Baverman started his own practice, with emphasis on representing people charged with crime, with a geographic focus on the Northern District of Georgia and the local courts in Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton Counties, and appeals in the Eleventh Circuit and the Georgia appellate courts. Approximately 30% of the practice consisted of appointed cases in federal court and Cobb County, and case specific appointments in Fulton County. He also appeared on a frequent basis in other federal courts in the southeast (E.D. Tennessee, W.D. North Carolina, N.D. Alabama and M.D. Georgia), and in a range of local county courts, such as Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Douglas, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry and Spalding counties.

He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, and the ABA since 1981. Until his appointment, he was a member of the National Assn. of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Georgia Assn. of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American and Georgia Trial Lawyers associations. He also served on the Northern District of Georgia Bar Council (Member 1999; Chair 2000). Magistrate Judge Baverman regularly speaks at Continuing Legal Education and other legal seminars, is an adjunct professor at Emory University and Georgia State University schools of law, and judges NITA and trial advocacy competitions.

Magistrate Judge Baverman is married to Elida Baverman, and has three daughters.

Troy O’Neal Redd was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Augusta, Georgia by U.S. District Judge Dudley H. Bowen on April 13, 2006. Redd was sentenced to 96 months incarceration, a fine of $3,600.00, six years supervised release and a $400.00 special assessment. Redd was indicted and charged with three counts of possession of firearms by a convicted felon and one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Between August 3, 2003 and August 8, 2003 Redd was found in possession of 18 firearms and 249 rounds of ammunition. In a December 2005 jury trial in U.S. District Court, Redd was found guilty on all counts. This case was investigated by the Augusta Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Department of Natural Resources; and the Burke CountySheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Patricia Green Johnson prosecuted the case for the government. ##### 18-06

This is a recent example of someone who has been convicted of a similar crime but I think T.I.'s would have more counts.

It is not the fact that he caught the charges that is the problem. Even brothers like Malcolm X lived the street life, did prison time, and changed his life around. Going to jail and being strapped is not the issue here. The issue here is the reasoning behind the multi-million dollar gangster image that the record companies have turned into a marketable commodity that must consistently characterize itself based on a caricature of urban decadence. The streets are not pretty and it's not cute. How many of us have lost our best friends to the streets? Funerals with mothers crying and all that crazy shit.

When I lived that life it was because I was struggling to survive, when I managed to get my finances together, got a regular old job, went to college, started my own business there was no way I would risk it all just to prove to some punk ass schmucks that I was "real". I am real enough to know I don't have shit to prove to people that don't know me or what I have been through and that's all that really matters. Look at this his money can't even buy him bail right now and that is why we need to think. He is sitting in prison with millions in his bank account that he won't be able to use doing FED time. It's utterly ridiculous.

What I am saying is even with all the changes I made in my life I still found myself challenged because even if you work hard to get out there are challenges. Favors are costly in the business. Don't ever do favors for free. You have to cut everybody from that life off for the most part when you start making the transition. Fuck they feelings, cut them niggaz off. If cats were dependent on your connection guess what, they don't want you to get out. Yes they will set you up, but even a set up has flaws most of the time. We can see that this was not a flawless sting just off what they released to the press. TIP just ignored all the signs, they were there and he didn't see them. It happens all the time. He is in for the fight of his life and with his record he might have to settle for a plea deal that won't be in his favor, it will just be the lesser of two evils.

Why did dude ask a licensed firearms dealer to commit a crime?

You don't go to a legit business and ask them to assist you in committing a felony. They had to call ATF based off that contact alone. I remember when I researched getting a FFL that shit like that is in the paperwork to contact them or risk losing your FFL.

According to defsounds, TIP will remain in jail until his hearing this Friday, when the judge will determine whether or not he will qualify for bail before his trial. The article also says TIP is facing UP TO 10 years for his charges.
