I'm not a Rick Ross fan by any stretch of the imaginiation but congrats to the guy. I heard the album's actually tight. However, I challenge him to not do the following things in at least ONE song: 1) not repeat the same word after every line; 2) not talk about coke; and 3) NOT SAY THE DAMN WORD "BOSS"!!

Ross' first two singles have not been nearly as hot as his singles from the first album, so I am surprised he outsold Snoop. But Snoop may be better set for continued sales considering he hasn't officially released a second single.

As for Fat Joe, success nowadays is measured in a variety of ways. Fat Joe being independent, may have made more money off his sales than both Ross and Snoop.

Lastly, having the number one album may not mean much these days. Flo Rida or Rocko could be number one this week. The thought of that is hilarious to me. LOL

Look at the BIG picture...Hip hop came in 1 2 and 3. That is the state of hip hop. We run billboard. Right now its Rick Ross time to shine and hes holding it down. Boss and speeding was hot songs. Its hard for consumers to buy when there are 3 top hip hop artists to come out at the same time. I dont understand how they have that sort of mixup. Snoop needed breathing room with his release. That's exactly what Corporate America is doing. It's perpetuating this bland, one-dimensional form of hip-hop to control and streamline their products and services. They've essentially created a blueprint for the illusion of success that these rappers follow—Translation: You have to sound like this to be on the radio; You have to look like this in your video, and so on and so forth. So when someone like Flo Rida or Soulja Boy follows these instructions with precision, they begin to buy into their own hype—believing they're better than their predecessors who laid the path for them. Case in point, when Soulja Boy said he was better than Jay-Z and clowned on the GZA.

Nowadays, a rapper will make one type of song (probably featuring T-Pain...lol). If it hits, he or she will then scramble to make an album based on the success of that one song. So what happens? The whole fuckin' album sounds the same!!!

Traditionally, hip-hop pushed the boundaries of sound, style and fashion. The new generation of hip-hop does none of that.

See hip-hop is really all we own (or at least used to). It raised us and inspired us. So anyone who doesn't understand why someone like myself is disappointed with "current state of hip-hop" probably does not understand hip-hop. You just really dig pop music, that's all.

Which is why i think labels should give out deals for 1-3 singles and not whole album deals. I mean when you sign someone like Soulja Boy or Pop It Off Boyz, you know you're getting one MAYBE two hits out of that artist and not a classic or even halfway decent album (if you can't gather that by their demo tape then you don't need to head a record label) So why spend the extra time and money putting a complete album out. Specially when theres a bunch of kids out on itunes downloading one song off the album anyway -- which is the one on the radio.

The problem is......hip hop is the only musical art form that has not evolved. Look at anything that refuses to evolve over a given period of time........it becomes extinct, or endangered at least. Hip hop is not pushing the boundaries anymore. It used to be about being unlike the mainstream. Now it's taking the hot shit of the moment and copying it to death. I'm cool with us getting the checks now days but trying to convince our sons that a chain, a big watch and rims is what makes you a man or telling our daughters that a video hoe is how they are supposed to act is WRONG. I got a real problem with a muthafucka spewing bullshit on the tv or radio so they can get a check and come up at the expense of all of our young people. I live in Vegas and everyday there is a school shooting or some kind of kid killing another kid. They are falling for this gangsta shit and I'm tired of it. Parents control your fucking children so I don't have to blast them when they try to rob me! Hip hop needs to evolve or it's gonna fall off. Don't believe me? Ask those rock n roll cats that was getting money in the 80's about how their paychecks were effected when Nirvana came on the scene in the early 90's and flipped the script on they asses!!!! It will happen to us too if we don't change it up.
