well in 6 years he has been in office... he has balanced a 300million dollar deficit...put up 6 new hotels in the city...that hasnt been done in over 60 years...paved more streets that ever...built and repaired 75 building in the downtown area, expaned the riverfront area, built over 100 new homes in the city...hasnt been done i years...built 3 new recreation centers in the city...which hasnt been done in over 20 years. Not to mention the entertain activites that he has bring to the city which generates revenue. The superbowl, the elite 8 is here this year with the final here next year. The MLB allstar game was here a year or so ago. The free fair that was on the riverfront last summer, not to mention the winter blast which has ice skating and snow slides and all that.

he does a great job for the city on those aspects...but when he first took office in 02' 03' i guess he let the power go to his head a bit...and he is paying for it now

If his lawyers are smart, he's got some room to maneuver: (1) They dug up 5-6yrs back on that text msg "scandal", so they didn't catch him doing anything. Again, he's dumb (arrogant) to use a company-issued cellie to make his personal correspondence....not the same as getting caught smoking crack in a motel w/ 2 prostitutes (Love to my D.C. fam)
(2) In the original hearing, he was asked 'are you having an affair w/ C. Beatty'... which implies currently--> instead of "have you ever had an affair...." minor technicality, but wiggle-room outta perjury.

A lot of the things you mentioned in your post we in place before he took office. The biggest event being the Super Bowl. The 6 new hotels came as a requirement for the Super Bowl or the permanent casino's. The Final Four and Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games this can probably be attributed to him. He hasn't done a lot on his own. Most the change the city has seen was because of Archer, as much as I hate to say that. Even if he was the catalyst for all that he is still too arrogant and a bold faced liar. He contends that the text messages are fabricated the why did he send a staff member to SkyTel headquarters? He used tax payers money to buy a Navigator when he was laying city workers off as part of his balanced budget. Flat out he's shady, I would even want him bagging my groceries!

it ain't hate. The man made mistakes. But his mistakes is hurting the people in the city. The Super Bowl a done deal before he even took office, so was Ford Field and Comerica Park. The only reason the 6 hotels got put up was the NFL required a specific amount of rooms to be available to host the event. Again all done before he took office. The Final Four and Elite 8 are only there because MSU proved they could sell tickets in the stadium for a basketball game when they played Kentucky there and broke an attendance record. The All-Star game in '05 was more than likely finalized before he took office.

These aren't thing to be that proud of because the citizens don't benefit directly from these event. They are temporary spotlights on the city. 3 new rec centers. What has he done for the schools. My sister has had to wait until a week before school starts to find out if she is going to be laid off or not. Last year she was and was fortunate enough to get placed in another school at the last minute. She is one of the north of 8 Mile folks you love to hate. For the people everyday on Linwood in the hood what has he done. Herman Gardens was torn down years ago and nothing has been done to that land. I didn't grow up in the D but the people haven't been affected much by Superbowls and NCAA Tournaments. The people need jobs that pay real money, quality city services and better more stable schools. What could have he done better with $9 Million dollars? When they first started looking at the text messages they weren't even looking for the affair. Thats just some shit they stumbled across.

Bottom line is this. Nobody is gonna want to do business with him or the city until he is out of the picture. He has disgraced the city. Beatty is gonna cop a plea, turn on him cause thats her only chance because at this point she has lost nearly everything, her career, family all that. He will survive, just not as mayor.
