"Up Top" being that W.Runyon is a long hill, might've been one of my peeps that got hit(hopefully not 05-08 has been drastic enough), but yeah this is nothing new, and to call this the most violent 24hrs in the City's history as i'm seeing headlines is a joke, this shit is cupcake material as opposed to the shit the masses don't get exposed to over here......

i wish this would stop, theres tons of community awareness type activities that take place both via residential orgins as well as city/state funded things, but it's kinda hard to focus on these types of things when the majority of the youth and even adults have to Hustle or Starve, even if they are employed. This gentrification and all this other bullshit like the ballooning of the Police Force while the Blue-Collar Jobs are almost non-existent and even the strict street vendor policy has forced dudes trying to eat without hitting the streets, to opt for the "pack and burner" theory as a means to feed their families, shit i gotta travel 20 minutes and about 5 towns just to get a paycheck.....

and Treach is always doin good in the hood i guess when he not on the move, i hear he told police he was the one being shot at. Condolences to all the vicitims of those shootings though.. Niggaz shootin girls in the face and shit, smh......

my generation dropped the ball because most of these dumb "hood" niggaz was chasing imagery instead of carrying on tradition, i'm glad to be part of the pre-gang street generation out here, but damn shit done changed for the worse!

Vests are illegal on the streets, you can get em just about as easy as a gun almost, well not that easy, but they are accessible. He in the hood wit a Hummer, he better have a vest and tints........

Chadwick Ave is 2 blocks down, so i think he was just visiting the hood and got caught up in somebody elses mishap. Not to mention theres a precint about 5 minutes away on West Bigelow and Bergen...the media makes it seem like Treach was a shooter, the only gun they found that i heard was tossed on the block somewhere, and he just got questioned in the back of a police car, it's not like he was processed for anything shooter related and probably got a lil ticket for the vest, i'm sure the law out here is aware of his status.

Wat pisses me off is that the only reason this is even news is because Treach's name is on it. Newark fixes the crime logs to make it look like fewer crimes occur, making it easier to raise property values and taxes to get the poor folks out and the rich folks in.

Newark shits on the residents. They persuaded companies to do business there instead of NYC by offering 50-year property tax exemptions. Problem is, only a small fraction of the people that work for those businesses actually live in Newark. So the school systems and public infrastructure continue to crumble because not enough money stays in Newark.

Unless you're highly skilled, there's not enough jobs and certainly not enough job training. Despite the tax breaks, the jobs pay comparatively less than neighboring NYC. There's just an aura of hopelessness in Newark. Cats do what they do to eat.

That's a chance I was willing to take because it's not a game out there. These young cats don't know, but for a minute, there wasn't a street in Newark or East Orange that wasn't a risk and it wasn't just one or two dudes sliding on you. I understand what you saying about the politics behind all of it. But Newark has always been a ruff city. It's just like allot other cities right now, Chicago, Detroit, Oakland, MIA ect.

Employment rates doesn't help either but this what happens when people relying on others to guide them. People think some company is going to come in and have the magic pill of solution but really the company is looking out for their money first.So their going to shout down when the economy isn't in their favor. They don't care if you don't have enough money to make it.

So you better get you some education or trade at least you have some options. Look at how many males drop out of school in these areas. You can't blame school system when kids going to school just hang out in the first place. Where the fuck are their parent at? And if all else fail move the fuck away and try something new.

KevMac i can tell is really from Newark and we share the same point of view on the City in general.

and Treach should never had made the news for the info i posted in my first post, he wasnt caught with a gun, the only gun found was a throwaway that was found on the streets. If anything, it would be the vest that would have gotten him into any problems beyond the questioning.

it's easy to say better schooling but how when it's teachers who don't give about two fucks other than a paycheck and designated days off...

You can get a trade blah, blah, blah, but alot of these places aren't hiring even if you have ya certificate in a trade for construction-based work, let alone some shit you done worked 4yrs for, my cousin graduated from Rutgers with an Engineering degree, and now has to commute to NYC just for some entry level shit despite credentials and Rutgers New Brunswick being a pretty prestigious school.

all that is easier said than accomplished.... and enough of this bullshit, the story was trumped up only because Treach got questioned for a few minutes in the back of a Police car..... thrill me! Let that had been Raheem from crosstown and none of ya'll outside of NJ or even NYC would have known about this....

I hear you, but the school systems are messed up because a lot of the teachers give up even before the students do. There are no programs or new books because there is no money.

You can ask where the parents are, but we're talking single-parent households in most cases where that one parent is working two and three jobs to put food on the table. Move? To where? How will they get there and where is the money coming from to put a deposit down on a new place?

I'm not trying to make excuses because there's always a way and there are those who are just too lazy to fix their situations, but if the solutions were that simple, wouldn't everyone be doing it? Our economy relies on the "have-nots" to prevent inflation. Don't think for one second that the government doesn't have a strong hand in keeping people under the rubble.

Of course that doesn't apply to everybody cause some people are genuinely in a bad spot. However, we all know them catz that are ONLY trapped by the limitations of their own mind or desires for money and notoriety. I have to agree it would have never made the news if it was just a joe blow from down the street. But blaming the system for people shooting each other? Man I was in Newark back in the late 80s and them dudes was wilding out back then.

So we all know that shit ain't nothing new. My thing is this is going on all over America. Allot of these little homies want to be in some shit. They take pride in being in some gang going to jail or wilding out. And allot of the time their families be encouraging that behavior indirectly or directly.

Here's just one example how. When ever some body from the hood gets out of jail who's been locked up over 2 to 3 years. What does his family usually do for him when he gets home? Have a damn cook out or some type of celebration for his return. Like he's been some where special, shit like that has to stop.

And teachers don't make allot of money so they ain't getting a pay check and just bounce out on kids. And with the way kids are in school. Who in the hell wants to be a teacher?

I know this might sound harsh but it really does start with who's raising you (parents). And if your a single parent and struggling why in the hell do you keep having more kids? Or dating sorry as men who haven't proven shit to you in the first place. Man their are programs to help allot of people. But most people don't seek them out or the kids don't want to participate in them.

And its alway been hard for miniorties to get jobs in America.
So you can't say people don't know what's going on.
I'm tell you man allot of them enjoy that hustle fast life shit and take pride in it. Everybody ain't out their trying to feed their families. Most of them dudes are criminals and chose to be that way. Just listen to dudes in here talk about where they are from. Some of them think that shit is cool too. And some us know that shit is just entertainment and nothing to be proud of in the real world.

What you failed to mention is the long-term effects of social conditioning. Is it fair to blame someone born and raised in the ghetto for having a ghetto mentality and passing that mentality off to their children? Most people in the ghetto would change their situation in a heartbeat if they could. You mention there being a lot of programs for the youth. Name some in Newark that actually prepare the kids for the real world.

You were in Newark in the late 80's and between then and now, job growth has risen at HALF the rate of population growth. There is no denying that crime will increase in impoverished areas where there is a high rate of unemployment and little police presence.

Also, I know a lot of teachers in the Newark area and for the most part, their biggest complaint is the school system itself, not the kids. You get a few bad apples and few parents that don't give a damn, but that's to be expected with the profession no matter where you teach.
