If Nas could have came out with the title it would have been cool... but noone was going to stock it in their stores except maybe the remaining indies. What was he supposed to do? Release the album with that title just on GP and have it sit in a warehouse cutting what little sales can be garnered nowadays. d-dog, I won't quote your whole statement, but you are right in many ways. I love Hiphop period!!! To the extent that I can enjoy music from Jay-Z & Nas at the same time (fK stans on either side and in general) Now I don't agree that Nas should keep fighting to keep the album title printed on the disk cover. Nas made a very good point- he has kept the fight alive long enough that we all know what to call this album, no matter what the "package" says. The point is if Nas wants his artistry to be heard, he has to change the "package" not the content. The message is still the same. It's all politics, and you have to play the game. Here's a thought: you think if Bush didn't change his "package" about the war that we would be in one today? The message was still the same - He wanted to make as much profit for big business and his own family and friends. dwell on that for a minute & then think about this.....If Nas did try to be "gangsta" and keep the title, even if it did hit stores (which it wouldn't-have to consider retailers also have a choice to carry it or not) Even a high % of his stans would even actually "BUY" the music anyway. I don't wanna give up to much in one post because in this day of Ignorance ='s Cool. knowledge is like H.I.V. don't nobody want it! I feel you on this, but I think that's why he's never really enjoyed "mainstream" success when it's clear he has the talent to enjoy it. He's comes off as too intelligent/over your head for street dudes or the new generation of Souljah Boi type of hip hop fans, and he comes off as recluse to regular or college educated people. The art of being relatable and having a personality that people want to be around or be like is important if you have a message that should be heard.

When he was on 106 & Park talking about Sean Bell, I guess that's when it hit me, NAS goes over a lot of people's heads and it's not effective.

Yo, I completley agree with daz156. The reason Nas has to break down the substance of his song/song titles is cause he's kind of over most people's heads. I've read some ignorant statements on here and if the people who posted those statements actually heard the song they would know that he's talking about people like them.

But on another note, I do hope this album doesn't dissapoint, last album I liked was God's Son, but the last album I loved was Stillmatic.

regardless of what everyone is talking about, it seems the consensus is that nas has released one, maybe two great albums at best. personally, i'm an illmatic nigga. he lost me after the second album. like jay said, "that's a one-hot-album-every-ten-year average."
