My opinion on Ross, well, I could care less. I was never a fan of the man to begin with. I'm more worried about my reality than his. I don't need a rapper to tell me the truth. When I have to deal with my own truth and life at the moment. I can understand why people might be upset or taken a back. He did lie about his job status. It's really not as serious or as big of a deal, as it's being blown up to be. But so what. Whay are you looking for a rapper to tell yout eh truth about your life? If you can't separate fantasy from erality, then that's your problem. Not any of the rappers. Oh well, like Saigon said, Hip Hop is in a fantsay state right now.

Quit acting like the fact he MIGHT NOT have sold drugs makes him a worse person. In all actuality, it makes him a better person, because there really isn't any lower a level of man than a drug dealer....ESPECIALLY ones who are obviously pushing that sh*t to their own people and killin' 'em.

We were just talking about how the value system in America has been thrown down the toilet, all because all of a sudden it's become COOL to be the drug dealer, or gangsta, or what-not. Now, I don't necessarily dog any people's associations. I know people who have joined gangs because they have no family, or they felt they needed the help, love, and protection from being associated with a group of people(s) and what not. The original gangs out West weren't started as a means of destroying their own people, but more so to be uplifting. Just check the meaning of the name CRIP (Community Revolution In Progress), or the fact the origin of the gang came from individuals who wanted to act as community leaders and aggressively protect their community. Now look at us...outreach opportunities turned into gang warfare. It's sad, but it all goes back to values. You destroy the value system, everything else comes tumbling down. And it wasn't by accident. The use of drugs to undermine our people continues to be one of the #1 ways we find ourselves in the predicaments we face today.

And we're on here "bashing" this dude because he was probably a CO? GTFOH...

The only lame thing he did was to DENY he was a CO...to deny he actually did some honest work. And who knows, as a CO, he was probably doing some dirt on the side. We don't really know...and that's NOT to glorify what he may have been doing...

It's just a shame we think it's COOL to be the drug dealer, or the pimp, or the gangsta, but we think being an honest, hardworking individual who DOESN'T destroy his community is cool.

By lying about his past as boldly as he did, it shows a flaw in his character. The flaw is the fact that he hasn't reached a certain level of responsibility to own up to what he has sowed. There's nothing Trill about a person (Notice that I didn't say, "Man") who can't stand by his own actions and words.You can't be "Too Real/Trill" when you're not being real with yourself. People who use the violent movies analogy are off base for one reason. When an action star plays a violent role, you never once think the actor is really that way. Why? Because out in public he/she acts like a regular person in interviews and talks about the job they did on the movie. There is a clear distinction in the role they play and who they really are. Do you ever once think Arnold really gets down like the Terminator? Of course not, that would be stupid.

But some rappers try to keep their "role" 24/7, and try their hardest to make you think they actually live the persona their playing, which leads to exposures like this. The real Ross saw it coming and even tried to warn the rapper.

Finally, you past shapes who you are today. You're nothing without the experiences you went through in life. For him to so vehemently deny them shows a lack of integrity.

Excellent point. I am also tired of the movie comparisons. Anybody with a brain can understand the difference between the effects of movies and music. I was thinking about this shit yesterday when I was listening to my wife's copy of the new David Banner. I remember his arguments on Hip Hop vs. America and then listened to what he was saying on the new cd. Music is meant to be entertainment also, but like you said....nobody expects an actor to really be the person the portray in their roles. Its obvious that is different in music....otherwise you wouldn't have half the people on the IC heartbroken because Ross got exposed. Also it is arguable that you wouldn't have the Hip Hop police because art wouldn't be imitating life. Right now, they could damn near pull any rapper over and find him riding dirty (drugs or illegal weapons). We read enough stories on AHH to verify that on any given day. It may be profiling or harassment, but they wouldn't have a case if the assholes didn't GIVE them the evidence. IMO.

What Ross preaches is the equivalent to verbal genocide because you have those individuals who are idolizers and followers. Do we REALLY want these rappers to be who they portray in their lyrics given how most glorify and magnify OUR, not societies, most negative aspects? Force once people, stop and REALLY analyze how all of these things fit together in the grand scheme of society.

@MAINE MAN makes a very valid point. I grew up watching and listening to whatever I wanted also. I didn't have a father figure around my entire life either. However, my mother did an excellent job raising me and educating me. I also think I have a decent level of common sense ( based on what I hear and see from most folks ). I've never been a follower and I've always looked up to people who were legitimitely successful versus the quick cash come uppers. Honestly, the kids of today just seem dumb as fuck. That is the only way I can explain it. Even adversity cannot be blamed for bad choices. Adversity does not change the fact that you have free will, common sense and analytical skills......All you have to do is use them. Its obvious by the headlines on here and in the news that they are not using those God given gifts. Again, IMO.

It’s Friday 4p.m and I’ve just left work. It’s the weekend so I should be excited right? Wrong, this weekend I’m actually starting a part-time job. The hours are 4:30pm-2:30am, Fri-Sun. As I’m rolling down highway 459 frustrated about having to take on a 2nd job I hear Slim from the R&B Group 112 on our local radio station. Apparently he’s about to release a solo album and is doing a promotional tour. He also makes the announcement that he’s started his own record label. The station opens the lines for any listeners who may have questions for Slim. I phone in to the station and surprisingly I get through. I ask Slim, “So since you now have your own label are you looking for any Hip Hop artists and if so how would someone go about getting you their demo”. His politically correct answer did not surprise me whatsoever. His answer was, “Yes I’m always looking for talent. The best thing for you to do is to keep grinding doing what you do and labels as well as I will come looking for YOU”. Without making another statement I simply ended the call and proceeded to change the station. That’s not the first time I’ve heard that statement verbatim and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The problem with that answer is it doesn’t apply to someone in my position who is unable to independently release a project. I work a full-time job; I’m a father, and a husband. On top of that I just started a part-time job. In order to get the attention of record labels you need two things time & money. Well it’s evident I don’t have the time working two jobs and if I had the money I wouldn’t be working two jobs in the first place right? Let’s explore why these two items are necessities. First, Money, in today’s hip hop world everyone expects to be compensated for whatever favor they may provide, from the program directors to the DJs. Even managers are now requesting money from unsigned artists just to manage them. Having money will get you one of the key items that labels look for, radio spins. Ok moving on to the 2nd necessity, Time, having time really helps you to create the so-called Buzz. With time you’re able to perform at every open mic or talent showcase you hear about whether it’s local or elsewhere. Now if it’s elsewhere then the money comes back in to play with the fact you’ll have to travel and we all know that with today’s gas prices, it costs to travel. Most talent showcases even wants you to pay anywhere from $50-$400 to enter. Some of these talent shows aren’t even legit, they are mere schemes. They tell you that they have record execs and well known producers in attendance while never stating exactly who these people are. They use this as a tool to get the hungry unsigned artists to enter showcase. There are even companies out there that make promises to shop your demo to various labels, for a fee of course. Some of these companies are also scammers. So what does someone with talent but neither time nor money do to get signed? Only when I’m signed will I be able to answer that question.
