This is a good thing but they should be addressing all these athletes and entertainers who aren't investing in our communities once we get on..You can only do so much if you're forced to work for somebody else your whole life..We don't support each other and it takes place on so many levels..I think if all black rappers and entertainers gave 5% of their total income back to our communities we'd be in a great position..It starts with teaching personal responsibility but there's still not much that can be done when our rich do more to support white businesses..On top of that a lot of us have our own companies but don't trust our people enough to hire each other..I'm tired of seeing these so called street cats with mostly white staffs..You're suppose to be trying to help your folks out..

@Gawga - Giving 5% of their income is not going to do anything homey. People have to WANT that change, and work towards making it happen. You remember the whole "give a fish vs. teach someone how to fish" quote from back in the day? It still stands true. Why give someone a fish today, when you can teach them to fish for a lifetime? Problem is, we have too many NICCAHS in our society, and not enough BLACK people.

I'm starting to see what Bill Cosby was talking about when it comes to our people. We want people to give us something for nothing. Unfortunately, opportunities ARE given...we just don't take advantage of them...

I'm not saying we shouldn't be giving back to our communities. Thing is, many of the artists ARE giving back to the community. There are a number of people who are getting an opportunity due to the successes of people who have "made it"...

But at the same time, there are also those of us who aren't doing SH*T with the opportunities we are given. Look at Game for example. He gave opportunities to folks from his own hood, and them fools was silly with the money. He had to fire his WHOLE staff at BlackWallstreet for doing shady sh*t with the money. Also, you can't just "give" sh*t to people either. People have to be willing to EARN it too...case in point.

I know a dude (we'll call him X) here who "looked out" for his younger brother on putting him onto a business here. He knew a brotha (we'll call him Y) who was in good at a consulting firm. X was "looking out" for Y, so he gave the younger brother of X a job. Younger brother comes in LATE all the time, talks slick sh*t to the female co-workers, and ultimately gets fired. This looks bad for Y, and ultimately, he gets the ax too.

This kinda sh*t happens all the time with our people. Another example would be my little sister. When she first moved here, I got her an interview with the people here where I work. What does she do? She doesn't show up for the 2nd interview! Real talk. She claims she got lost trying to find the building where the interview was to take place. Keep in mind she already came into the offices for her first interview, and although the second "round" was in a different building, she could have stopped in THIS office to figure out where to go. Nah, she just went home. You know how messed up that is? Now I don't even wanna throw nobody at HR for a while to let that cool down. She may have messed it up for who knows how many other people.

Dude, these artists are NO different. Look at Pac. Whoever the dude was who got his chain snatched at that mall shouldn't have involved Pac in that BS. Game shouldn't have been employing incompetent niccahs to be on Wallstreet.

I'm not gonna dig on it any further. All I'm saying is folks have to WANT what these artists have to offer. I would implore people to do what they need to do to be prepared for success. They look hard enough, they can get whatever it is they are looking for LEGALLY...but they have to WANT it.

As for giving to the community...

Many of them do that. The real question is what are WE doing to fix our own communities (i.e. the teachers, lawyers, doctors, etc, etc....).

Those "other" communities don't have the same issues because they take care of from within'. They don't even EXPECT no superstars or whomever to give back to them. They expect those famous people to put their money in their alma maters, or high schools, or programs they were in (Girl's Club, Boy's Club, etc...).

All I'm saying is we all (myself included) need to look in the mirror, not to these celebrities...they ain't role models...:)

I'm not saying they are role models..I think if we are buying your gym shoes for $150 to $200 a pair, your jeans for $80 to $200 and so on you should be investing some of that money back in school systems or something to better your old communities..The way most of these people are giving back is fucked up..They give school supplies, turkeys for thanksgiving and shit like that..I ain't saying it ain't needed but come on..That ain't where our problems lie..

You are picking all the horrible stories to talk about..I guaruntee there's just as many or more success stories than failures..It's easy to focus on the negative if that's what you want to do..At the same time it's up to you to know what kind of people you're looking out for..My people know not to ask shit of me unless they are going to do what they need to..It don't just pertain to them it also pertains to the level of respect people have for you and if you demand it you'll get it or they won't deal with you..I see you brought up the cd sales and what not but white folks wouldn't even know what to like if it wasn't for us and our interest in hip hop and fashion..We are still the number 1 consumers of all products in this country while we remain one of if not the poorest race..So, there's still a lot of money we could be using to give back and that's on all levels not just theirs but it has to start somewhere..The thing is these entertainers could use their star appeal to get others that wouldn't normally contribute to do so..It's a lot of ways these things can be done but we need each other..It can't just be a hood thing, corporate thing, entertainment thing..It has to be support on all levels..I'm not saying it's all on them but come on..I just saw Paul Newman gave back over $200 million back..Other races will live comfortably to help each other..We act like idiots and get money just to throw it back in each other faces instead of using it to pull all of us up to make those links that much stronger..Everybody talk about how much Jay, 50 and the rest are worth but let's talk about how much they are giving back..I've seen them give money here and there but if you're worth $500 million and you can't let $50 million go to charity then you're messed up and that's my opinion..Where are they making all these products that they are selling to us at? Exactly, it would make a difference if we were working for them in some capacity and even when we do work for them we get the fucked up treatment..Look at JD, Jay, and Diddy's employees complaints about not getting paid..
