The rappers are there to get people's attention, because let's face it otherwise most people wouldn't care. You see that clearly in that the majority of the comments here are about Berg and Fat Joe as opposed to people like cultural critic/journalist Michaela Angela Davis, Brown University professor of Africana Studies Tricia Rose, and activist Moya Bailey. Unfortunately, names like that don't ring out among the masses.

Once there, hopefully the attendees get good info they can use in their everyday lives.

BET does a lot wrong but I have no issue supporting them when they attempt to do right.
