10 Ways To Beat Lupus Naturally

I lost my mother to Lupus at the age of 9. Back then (1990) there was not alot of real treatments for it like there is, now. The Lupus Foundation of America estimates that 1.5 million Americans have a form of lupus.

Although lupus can strike men and women of all ages, 90 percent of individuals diagnosed with the disease are women, and 80 percent of those afflicted with systemic lupus develop it between the ages of 15 and 45.

Lupus is two to three times more prevalent among women of color -- African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Asians, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders -- than among Caucasian women.

20 percent of people with lupus will have a parent or sibling who already has lupus or may develop lupus.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a report in May 2002 which indicated that deaths attributed to lupus increased over a 20-year period, particularly among African American women ages 45-64. However, it is not clear if the rise is the result of an actual increase in lupus mortality or better identification and reporting of deaths due to complications of the disease.

I knew a chick about 13yrs ago who had it bad, she was weak and had went down to skin and bones. Even worse she had two young kids as a single mom (I felt so bad for what her kids were going through), but through the grace of God she recovered pretty much fully and lives a relatively normal life as far as I know (lost contact some years ago). Keep your spirits up, believe in God and yourself bro. Peace.....

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis of Lupus and the struggles that you have been facing. I am a caucasian woman(which like you listed above the disease is most prevalent in African Americans and Hispanics) who was diagnosed in 2003. I have been on chemotherapy for over a year and scheduled to continue for another two years at least. The damage to the body is so fast and very painful. By the time a diagnoses is made a person may have been suffering for many years prior. I am trying to live to see my kids grow up and graduate high school. That is my goal to live and fight and beat this. By you letting others know that you have Lupus, I can't tell you how thankful that someone like me is for you doing such a brave and honorable thing. You are bringing awareness to this horrific disease and that is what we patents need. Some people still have no idea what Lupus is and what it is capable of. If anyone is interested in helping bring awareness visit lupus.org and sign up for a Walk to raise money in your area. The great thing about the Lupus Foundation in your area is that the money raised in your area stays in your area. The lupus Foundation supports patients and their families and programs in the area where you live. Tomiko Frasier just lost her sister to Lupus. It is a horrific disease!

Complications of Lupus
Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many areas of your body, including your:

Kidneys. Lupus can cause serious kidney damage, and kidney failure is one of the leading causes of death among people with lupus. A blood test called serum creatinine level is used to monitor kidney function. Signs and symptoms of kidney problems may include generalized itching, chest pain, nausea, vomiting and weight gain.

Central nervous system. If your central nervous system is affected by lupus, you may experience headaches, dizziness, memory problems, behavior changes, even seizures

Cancer. Having lupus appears to increase your risk of cancer — especially non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which affects the lymph system; lung cancer; and liver and bile duct cancers. Immunosuppressant drugs that are sometimes used to treat lupus also can increase the risk of cancer.

Blood and blood vessels. Lupus may lead to blood problems, including anemia and increased risk of bleeding or blood clotting. It can also cause inflammation of the blood vessels (vasculitis).

Lungs. Having lupus increases your chances of developing an inflammation of the chest cavity lining (pleurisy) that can make breathing painful. You may also be more susceptible to a noninfectious form of pneumonia.

Heart. Lupus can cause inflammation of your heart muscle (myocarditis and endocarditis), your arteries (coronary vasculitis) or heart membrane (pericarditis). Having lupus also greatly increases your risk of cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. Controlling high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol, not smoking, and getting regular exercise are essential to help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Infection. People with lupus are vulnerable to infection because both the disease and its treatments — corticosteroid and cytotoxic drugs, in particular — affect the immune system. And in a vicious cycle, infection can bring on a lupus flare, increasing the risk of infection even more.

Bone tissue death (avascular necrosis). This occurs when the blood supply to a bone diminishes, often leading to tiny breaks in the bone and eventually to the bone's collapse. The hip joint is commonly affected, although avascular necrosis can occur in other bones as well.

Avascular necrosis can be caused by lupus itself or by high doses of corticosteroids used to treat the disease.

Pregnancy complications. Women with lupus have an increased risk of miscarriage. Some women with lupus experience a flare during pregnancy. Lupus increases the risk of high blood pressure during pregnancy (preeclampsia) and preterm birth.

Raynaud's Phenomenon —This phenomenon entails reduced circulation to the fingers, especially in the cold, which causes them to ache and to turn red, white, and blue.

Swelling Around the Eyes This type of swelling is a sign of kidney disease.

Swollen Glands Lymph glands, such as those in the neck, are the battlefields of your immune system. They swell when your immune system is fighting off an infection or other condition.

Swollen and/or Painful Joints Usually the smaller joints of the hands and feet are affected. They may just hurt, or they may actually become inflamed.

I FEEL YA. I GOT THE SAME DISEASE. WE IN THE SAME BOAT. I HAD IT ON MY LEG AND THE BACK OF MY THIGH REAL BAD. IT WAS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND I COULDNT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME. I KEPT GETTING DIFFERENT ANSWERS FROM DIFFERENT DOCTORS. THEN THEY CAME UP WITH LUPUS. I GOT 2ND AND 3RD OPTIONS AND THE SAME THING CAME UP. IT WAS SO DAMN HEART BREAKING. I WENT TO SEE A SPECIALIST AND THEY GOT THE STUFF OFF MY SKIN. I WAS SO HAPPY. IN THE BEGINNING I ACTED OUT LIKE I DIDNT GIVE A DAMN BOUT LIFE ANYMORE CAUSE I WAS DOOMED TO DIE ANYWAY. I FOUND OUT THAT ITS MEDICATION THAT U CAN TAKE, BUT IT HAS STEROIDS IN IT SO I WASNT TRYING TO BLOW UP. SO I JUST LIVED LIFE TO THE FULLEST. THEN MY BETTER HALF CAME AND SAID U HAVE TO STOP DOING THIS TO YOUR SELF AND LIVE FOR THE KIDS. AND I WOKE UP. I HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS FOR YEARS UNTIL RECENTLY. ITS ON MY ARM. IM SO SAD CAUSE I DONT WANT IT TO SPREAD. IT WILL TURN UGLY. SO IM PRAYING THAT IT DOESNT SPREAD ALL OVER.
