YES! This is probably my favorite old school album, for real. I love this shit! Rakim is one of the greatest. If he aint in your top 5... well, I don't wanna argue about opinions, but hey man, "It's the R." From 86-88 a lot of classic shit dropped. Wow, just like from 94-96. Where all the good shit at? Maybe it's hard to tell now, but ten years from now I can't picture anyone bumpin raps from the early 2000s like it's some classic shit. Very few if any. By the way, WHERE'S THE SEVENTH SEAL?!?! lol

shout out to eric b. for keepin' it 100 in the interview and giving everybody their props that put in the work.

i remember the first time i heard "eric b is president," when the record exploded in the summer of '86, it was kind of a changing of mentality...in the hoods of amerikka...i remember all the homeys kind'a started thinkin' seriously about gettin' money...before we were cool with old skool 98's, cutlass', or lacs, but when that record finished spinin' and "my melody" started catchin' that fall we had graduated to imports...lol..saab's, volvo's, benz's, and beamers...
eric is right, they are responsible for the whole get money movement, we used to fly all the way to nyc from the midwest to shop with dap and cop them exclusive gucci, and louis joints.

how many of ya'll was at the "paid in full" tour? fuck the "fresh fest", fuck the "up in smoke" tour, and fuck the "hard knock life" tour....the "paid in full" was the best hip hop tour of all time.

I don't mind ya'll giving props to the founders, but why is this Class of 88 when it came out in the summer of '87? It's not like they didn't have an album that came out in 1988.

BTW, neither "Move The Crowd" nor "I Know You Got Soul" were made up of ten samples. "Move The Crowd" was played on a keyboard using the melody from Mandrill's "Fat City Strut". The kick and snare may have been samples, but nobody really counts those.

"I Know You Got Soul" sampled "You'll Like it Too", "I Know You Got Soul", and "Different Strokes". Unless you're referring to the remixes that came out years later, that's not even close to ten samples.

Good interview, but please get the facts right.

Rakim has stated recently in a book by Brian Coleman that he had the tracks to Paid in Full already produced(that would be self produced)before Eric asked him to go to Zakia that day.One thing is true,he said,he regrets that he did not speak up more when it came to contracts,as well as interviews.Finally,anyone still questioning wether or not B actually did those classics,remember Eric said the same thing about Kool G's second album claiming Large Professor did not produce that classic,then listen to Freddie Foxx's:the Master,then Eric's solo album,THERE'S YOUR ANSWER!!!!
