It is truly a White man’s world, but White artists are largely unrepresented as rappers in Hip-Hop. Sure there were acts like the Beastie Boys and 3rd Base, but that was the 80's and early 90's. A scrawny Detroit MC emerged in 1998 with a dirty mouth

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

Firrrst.

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

Good for him, good luck Asher

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

No more...One is enough..
Or battle Eminem for his title or something...

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

3rd Bass, not 3rd Base, this isn't baseball pimpin. I see Eminem dismanteling this cat lyrically for the voice jackin.

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

He's doing good on the reviews, but I didn't like the Twitter Remark about "Nappy Head Hoes", but he Apologized!!

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

No more...One is enough..
Or battle Eminem for his title or something...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

wow.. if a white person said theres enough black people trying to do rock, you probaly be the first person to jump and claim racist huh?

people like you are why society is what it is.

i dont care how many white rappers there is. long as they contribute quality music. im all good.

and oh wait

im latino

not black

so should joell ortiz quit? inmortal tech quit? theres too many latinos in the rap game for you?

i hate racist people like i hate onions on my food.

disgusts me..

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

quit pullin the race card. like niggas dont call white people out their name everyday. look past race its either he can or cant rap. which i rather listen to him than 95% of the rap out there. hes being himself. people thers more to life than cars, money and drug dealing. While the number of the review is pretty accurate (7.5 - 8.0) the wording of the review seems like the reviewer has a lil bias toward Asher already. Im not even big on this dude yet, but I listened to his album and its not as bad as this review makes it seem.

Actually it was quite refreshing to hear something different then chains, cars, bling and bitches for once. It was refreshing to hear a new artist bringing something different to the table. Who gives a fuck who he sounds like, hes not intenationally emulating Eminem's voice.

Asher is here to stay, hate him or love him. I remember being the ONLY person who liked Eminem when Slim Shady came out, now hes one of the biggest rappers of all time. Stop all the fucking hate and start making better music and listening to better artists who are bringing something different then maybe Hip-Hop and the music industry might actually be a better place to call home.

So says Rayne Muthafuckin Storm!
http://www.RayneStorm.com

PS go cop that new Jadakiss, that Asher Roth, that Nas & that Jeezy if you already havent. As anyone who actually listens to the track would realize, Asher doesn't WANT to be compared to Em. It's not his choice. And I think Em would realize that.
If Asher was PURPOSELY going about trying to be compared to Em, I'd say yeah, diss him. But that's not the case.

I'll give you a comparison for all you college football fans.
The analysts and fans are comparing an incoming freshman here @ UF, Andre DeBose of Seminole High, to Percy Harvin in terms of playmaking ability. Dre HATES IT. He's said in 10+ interviews, "I'm NOT the next Percy! I'm the first Andre DeBose!" So does Percy hat him b/c Dre's being compared to him? Hell nah. They're still cool, at least it sure looked like it when the Dre was up here for a basketball game earlier this semester.

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

dubem said:
That song with Slick Rick and Asher Roth is what I wanna hear Asher rap like, and it's not even on the album! Ya'll are turning me off, saying his album has a bit of a rock sound to it! Still, I think that song with Keri Hilson can be a club hit! And with "I love college" going platinum as a single, this guy is on the come up! Big up Roth!!!!!!!
April 24, 2009 6:31 PM

---------------

nor was the joint w/ beanie segal..

idk why they wasnt. i woulda replaced 80% of the songs of the album w/ those joints

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

I think the fact Eminem is dropping a album around the same time is going to mess Asher Ruth up. Yes, I'm a brotha.

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

I got the album shit is nice real breathe of fresh air

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

the album was good, not great. you have to think tho, as a first album it was smart marketing. I love college put him on the scene. Blunt cruisin is another laid back song for college kids. She don’t want to man could be a club hit. Lark on my go kart has a nice beat and is just a fun song not to be taken too seriously lyrically. Be By Myself and Lion’s roar show Ash can actually spit. Then comes the legit part. Sour Patch kids, as i em, fallin, and especially his dream (my opinion best songs off the album) show asher can rap about serious things and highlight his best trait, storytelling. the kid has major potential. so what if somehow TWO WHITE PEOPLE HAVE SIMILAR PITCH. hes an individual stop hatin

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

the album does go in different directions but hes just tryin to find his place in the industry. he raps about what he knows , is that a crime? id rather have a dude be real than pretend to be a thug. who decided that hip hop can only be about bitches money and drugs anyway?

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

Asher has skills. Does this new album showcase those skills to the fullest. Not really. His the Greenhouse Effect goes harder than this album. To me anyway.
Now to the Em comparison. Don't see it Asher has a smoother flow than Em. Em punctuates his wordplay.
And last but not least to all these ignorant folks who criticize strictly becuz of his skin color. I guess in ur world there is room for only type of anything. Em is the only white rapper hip-hop needs. I should call Hollywood up and tell them to never put out another movie by Spike Lee, F. Gary Gray, or John Singleton. Tyler Perry can take all their places. Who needs Malcolm X when u can have Madea X right?

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

bn bumping this kids ish pretty darn good bt kid nds 2 work on his flow a bit too weak for my liking bt all in all a good effort

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

I like the album. It's something different and the boy got skills and a nice vocabulary too. Eminems stuff that I have heard so far just isn't jammin to me. Asher doesnt sound like eminem anyways, eminem raps with a silly puppet accent.

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

i liked the album, dude has talent, i gave it a 7.5, good for him

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

YALL GAVE THIS BUM MORE STARS THAN JADAKISS?????????!!!!!!!
MAN GET THE MUTHAFUCK OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FUCK THIS KNOCKOFF ASS WANNA BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HE STRAIGHT TRACED EMINEM WHOLE STYLE. He sounds like Em if Em went to college. He'll get his fan base from Em (12 year old suburbian kids) plus some of the college kids specifically from the song " I love college" and the fact the MTV has decided to back this kid. Nothing wrong with that.

Even when these vets (Busta, Beanie, Slick Rick, etc) jump on a track don't you realize its all about trying to get in on that fan base? Yes, he kinda does.. but there are a lot of black artists that sound like other black artists so who gives a shit. Kid has good content and should get a bit a shine. In fact, he has about 4-5 songs that I thought were super nice on his album.. The album also has a certain vibe thru the whole thing which is a breath of fresh air.. AND thirdly, he is who he is and doesn't front... SOO, even if he is not the best, which he is not, he's still fresh.. at least in my book...

Anyway, to address AHH, there have been other white mainstream successes since EM.. Maybe not to the same caliber but Paul Wall and Bubba were both white.. There may be one or two more that i cant think of... And Bubba is dope as FUCK if you've ever listened to his albums in entirety. Oh, and I'M dope!! Beside 1 complete disaster (She Don't Want A Man...good song for 1 listen...after that UGH!). The live instrumentals on the album are amazing. Lark On My Go-Kart, As I Em, Sour Patch Kids, and La Di Da are lyrically impressive. Bad Day and Be By Myself combine comedy and potent wordsat the same time. His political outlook on almost every track is something that Hip Hop has missed over the years. I just hope people can move past his skin color and actually give dude his props. People on AHH have been hating on him since day 1...but no one can deny that this album was OK to say the very least.

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

"wow.. if a white person said there is enough black people trying to do rock, you probably be the first person to jump and claim racist huh? "

It is ignorant statements such as this that justifies black angst toward white rappers. Despite the demographics of rock today, it is a music form that was created by BLACK people. Many of the early rock songs popularized by white artist were actually covers of songs originally created by black artist. It is this fact that creates a hysteria of white people "whitewashing" another of our creations (ie Rock, R &B) and reaping all of the financial rewards.

That being said, I would like to say that today's day and age requires that black people be cognizant of history, while remaining open to rap progressing to all corners of world. The difference today is that the information age leaves no doubt to the originators of this art form.

For the record I listen to music...not artist. Music depicts the soul of the creator and is not limited by boundaries such as skin color.

re: Asher Roth: Asleep in the Bread Aisle (Review)

MR.100STACKZ said:
@ AJRICH

YO SON I AINT LOST MA MIND BUT THE POINT IM TRYING TO MAKE IS THAT RICK ROSS CAME OUT AS BEING THE BIGGEST BOSS WE'VE EVER SEEN.
