Just because a list is different doesn't make it good. The list was ASS. You can never have a top 5 MC list without Jay-Z PERIOD!! And I'm a NaS fan!!! Put Jay-Z can spit with the best, got flow with the best, put he literally carried hip-hop after Big and Pac left us. If Jay-Z wasn't in the picture the way the game is now is the way it would have been as soon as Big and Pac died. The reason why the game is so jacked up is because there's no one to carry it the way Jay did. There's a ton of good artist out there but they don't have that mass appeal: A lot of real hip hop heads don't like Wayne and a lot of hood dudes don't like Kanye.

I don't think I would say Cee-Lo is better than Andre. He was definitely the best of Goodie-Mob but not better than 3 stacks in my opinion. I truly enjoy AZ's music but I wouldn't consider him a top 5 MC. He's a beast but he spits garbage from time to time, no disrespect intended. I think you learn alot about a person when they break down their top 5. I've gained more respect for Killer Mike and enjoyed hearing his perspective. I wish the man the best of luck.

This is my fave of the Top 5 series so far. I'd take out AZ and put in either Mike or Tech N9ne. Another Cee-Lo track to check out would be "One for the Road." I aint expect to hear "Woke Up This Mornin" from Killer but it ended up bein' one of my faves on the album. Thats how a nigga wake up every mornin now, I just switch up the order a bit. Why can't you ever have a top list without Jay-Z? Jay-Z aint the see all be all. He stole both Pac & Big's ideas and mixed his own flavor to really become relevant.

If Pac and Big didn't died he might have been just Big's little man in the commish because to most Biggie bodied Jay on Brooklyn's finest and "I Love the Dough", just like Em bodied him on "Renegade"

Jay's one of my favorites but don't be closed minded just because he's not on everyone's list.

That is the REALEST top 5 list I have ever heard from anyone, rapper or fan. He gave such concrete, concise reasons behind his selections that even if you wanted to argue with it, you can't. With Dre 3000, you know what it is. The first time I ever heard Goodie Mob, I knew Ceelo was the shit. Eminem is sick, point blank. 'Face is a legend that should be in the same sentence with G Rap as far as the crime shit goes. And I never heard anyone break down AZ's significance quite like Mike did and damned if it wasn't on point. The only top 5 list that's messin' with this is Jigsaw's, for real.

Okay but Big and Pac did die so your point is moot. It's like saying "if Big and Pac never existed then they wouldn't be considered some of the greatest rappers." It's senseless to base an argument on an "what if."

And any student of hip-hop know that all rappers bite off each other. That's with any profession period, I don't care what it is: basketball, baseball, football, acting, modeling, teaching, etc. All the greats are students of their own craft. Why you think rappers listen to other rappers...duh

You're right and it is "his" list and I respect that. But the rap game would be the same minus AZ and Cee Lo, i'm sorry. Now Em, 3000, and Scarface is cool but the reason no one comes at them is because they have never been at the very top of the game very long. Every rapper that has had the momentum with the talk around them being that they're the best has had beef with numerous ppl. I mean come on, four of the greatest rappers had beef among each other. Big vs Nas, Big vs Pac, Jay vs Nas. The ppl at the top always clash cuz they at the top. Em has always been real passive as a rapper. Whenever he would win an award he'd thank every single rapper alive so of course the only guy that would beef with him would be Benzino. Em gave props to everyone else.

The list is cool but I felt like he was purposely trying to be different. I mean there are a ton of cats that can spit metaphors (fab, jada) and a ton of cats who give you the personal rap stuff (budden, saigon, lupe) that don't mean they top five.

Biting a rapper or two and building off of other rappers careers using their formulas are two different things. that's first off.

The "what if" question is because you are talking about how Jay held the game for 10 years, but if you are a true student of Hip Hop then you know Jay also purposely slowed down the careers of many rappers including one of your Slaughter House crew members.

Influencing people to run to the stores or car lots and buy things they can't afford to run with the "Carters" is impressive if you're an idiot/sheep or a true baller, but impressing somebody to think, read a book, give back or build their hood is more impressive to me. Cee-Lo, Andre 3000, AZ Face & even Em later in his career have have that.

Jay is great for what he does, but once again you are close minded to think everyone should put Jay-Z on their list.

While you were saying Jay Z was running the charts people were bumping that Aquimini or The Fix. Bigger battles to real hip hop heads were Cube vs NWA or Shan vs KRS-1. Sorry, Big vs Pac battle didn't compare to those battles because Big never came out with a "No Vaseline" or "The Bridge is Over". "Who Shot Yah" was before and "Long Kiss" was wack to me because it was after Pac died.

So once again, Jay-Z being a "Great" is in your mind, but most of the US (Outside of NYC) don't have Jay-Z top 5. They consider him a "Great" but we've heard too many rappers with open minds.

You can hate all you want but Jay definitely had the crown. I don't care where Jay does a show at he can put the mic to the crowd and they can sing his entire songs (and he has done this before so the proof is in the pudding). Just because ppl from other places bump their hometown ppl don't mean anything. Whoever you consider the top rappers out of any area will tell you Jay was running the rap game...period. You can get Wayne from the NO, TI and Luda outta ATL, Outkast out of ATL, Scarface outta Texas, The Game from CA, Em out the D, Ross outta FLA etc and they will all cosign Jay-Z top five dead or alive. Jay's biggest problem is that he's still alive. If (God forbid) Jay passed away tomorrow his respect would shoot through the roof even more. He had the crown and if you can't admit that you're not being honest.

As far as the battle stuff, I'm not saying Jay had the best battles. My point was simply the ppl at the top of the game clash with the other ppl at the top of the game. None of the rappers on that list clashed with anybody at the top cuz they aint never been considered the person at the top. The rap game is competitive. You come at the person whose spot you wanna take. Nobody wants to take AZ's spot. AZ's a great lyricist but so what.. We are talking about TOP FIVE DEAD OR ALIVE!!!!

And I'm not from NY (from South Jerz) and I respect all other outlets and places but let's not forget where hip hop originated. It's like although ppl make movies out of NY and other places across the globe, Hollywood is in CA so to make the Oscars you have to have their approval. I'm not saying that NY has to like you in order for you to make it, but when Jay-Z says in an interview that the hottest album out and the music he's bumpin is The Love Below (which happened) it does give 3000 extra bonus points. I dig this list. I was real surprised to see AZ on the list but I can't knock it. It opened my eyes when he said that AZ was the fine line between Nas and Jay Z. I thought about it was like, "damn, he's right".

Definitely like the fact that someone finally gave Cee Lo much respect. Cee Lo's lyrics were life changing for me. When I heard him in "The Experience" on the Still Standing album, I still listen to that track and get emotional. Most people respect out of NYC respect all that Kool Herc and the other pioneers have done, but that's where it stops now. Hip Hop is more studied and loved in Haiti and China than in BX.

Canibus with all his lyrical skills couldn't recover and he's been of the map since. 2nd Round KO was playing everywhere and really gave him the hype he was due. But after LL's diss dropped and Canibus didn't have anymore tricks in the bag it was over. I don't care what you say but Canibus never recovered from LL's dis. He was like Kool Mo D ... irrelevant. And Kool Mo D was dope.

2pac, Scarface, Snoop(early deathrow days), Ghostface, MJG(On Top of The World era and Earlier), and Bun-B(Ridin' Dirty era and earlier).

More like underrated top 5 to me. Scarface often never gets mention in the top 5 by fans. I don't know why. Not sayin he would be in my top 5, but he definately needs to be considered in the discussion. I don't understand why people hate on Em. Has to be a racial thing. If he was black, he would get the respect that he truely deserves. AZ has always been slept on, no arguing that. However, I has issues with picking Cee-Lo and Andre 3000. It seems regional to me. I like Andre, and he is probably outside of Scarface the best rapper to come out of the South. Still, only one(though not official) solo album, not enough of a track record to stand on your own. I like Cee-Lo, but for him to stand on his own, you would have to include the Gnarls Barkley albums, and lets face it, those are not rap albums. U want to put a rapper/singer in your list to one of the Bone, Thugs N Harmony guys, Krayzie Bone being the most obvious choice.
