    JAY-Z – NOT FINISHED?

We’ve already heard this before, but rumor has it, Jay-Z is stil working on tracks for American Gangster. Now, I don’t know when the cut off is, but I was told that the whole thing had to be finished by last Friday to make the Nov. 6 deadline. While our journalist friends heard a good portion of the CD, I heard there are a number of songs that have yet to be released. Some of the producers on the album have gotten additional tracks on the opus. We’ll see!

    AMY WINEHOUSE AND HER WEAVE

Amy Winehouse is an alleged addict, but she’s an activist that gives back to the community. Apparently, Amy found out that her popular weaves were made in an orphanage in Romanian. Guess what? For Amy’s weave, these kids have to cut all their hair off. Just so she can look outrageous. Amy gave them something like $50,000. NICE, AMY!

    LL COOL J TOO?

When LL Cool J was saying, “I need love,” I was saying, “I need money.” Well, according to the E! Channel, LL did his own gesture of good will recently. LL was talking to a fan and a rose peddler came up to LL and asked the rapper if he wanted to cop a rose for the fan. Well, LL did cop the rose, which caused the man to start crying. Why? He started crying after LL paid him $500 for that rose right there on the spot.

    T.I. REPORT

I know this is a dumb questions, but how did this happen? There are so many places it could have gone and it went “there.”

    50 CENT GIVES BACK

Check out 50 Cent with high school kids in Conn.

    ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

I’m hearing that Britney Spears has threatened to kill herself after having her children taken from her.

T.I.’s girlfriend Tiny was released after being arrested. WHEW.

Djimon Hounsou is about to knock Kimora up, if she has her way. She reportedly wants moré kids.

What do you all think of Nas naming his new CD – N***A?

(That was just a lil’ second course of rumors.)

    TOMORROW, WE LOVE YOU!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!

But if you look at the influence that the two Seans have, every negative or sucka emcee that's out right now from 50Cent to Mims to whoever have been allowed access because of the doors Puff Daddy and Jay-Z opened.

If you know ANYTHING then you know this as actual fact.

What has Jay-Z spit that was the truth?, i don't feel any of his music has as much substance as Kanye's does. Jay-Z never put out a Diamonds are Forever type of track, honestly Jay-Z only talks about wealth, New York and hustling right?
    ?????????????????????????????????????

You can't get no righter than that BossUp

Jay rarely if never talks about anything else but Money, hustling and being the king of something Governer Pataki owns.

He brags about never writing a song down?
    Maybe you should Jay?
Then all your songs wont sound tha same.
It's easy to freestyle and memorize a whole album if you are stuck in the same mindframe.
Get out tha box a little Hova?
Fuck...write about Hova?, GOD, Life sumin.

But maybe Im wrong, he prolly don't want to be that kind of rapper. He maybe just want to appeal to tha shorties with his club hits.
If so dont call your self a hiphop head.
Cuzz hiphop is well balanced on a plethora of issues.

Nas doesnt sell half of what Jay does, but Nas got respect amongst his constituents.
His albums are laced with different topics that has the respect of being written out and thought over on paper.

    THE VERSACE WARS

See, it's not about repping an era. And that is an argument that I hear the new dudes using in defense of their ignorance.
"Ah, you stuck in the past."
"But people don't make Hiphop like that no more."
    etc, etc, etc,

    These are copouts.

And what people are complaining about is not their era. This isn't a "see, when I was coming up" type of deal.

Number one: Up until Puff Daddy, black music was always creative and always contained a positive conscious element.

    Even NWA.

Nobody said you gotta be a saint. Go 'head. Call a chick a bitch. But let us know about them punk type police too.

    And that's the extreme case.

Number two: Prior to Puff Daddy, Black music (actually all Black entertainment) always showed respect for those that came before.

Just Ice - Going Way Back

    Brand Nubian - Dedication

Tupac - Nuntin like the Old School (which I like to retitle "New York Love")

Even in 2003 when Nas made Star Wars, he mentioned that he was "brought up off that Planet Rock, James Todd Smith, Kurtis Blow, Shannon Scott..." , this shows that the better artist has an awareness and creative respect for the musicians that came before them.

This way they can carry the torch and get the blessing from greats that preceeded them.
Imagine Lil Jon or Nelly taking a photo with Rakim and Big Daddy Kane.

    Unlikely.

Try to picture Scott Storch or the Neptunes posing with Marley Marl.
    Forget it.

Even in the records that I mentioned in an earlier post, I've drawn from the early eighties to the nineties. That's beyond my era. But the dopeness is still there.

The low tolerance for wack beats and sucka emcees is still there from RUN to MF Doom.
All of the greats have respect for the shit that comes before them.

    But not these new dudes.

In order for the wack shit that they create to be justified, they have to pretend that the time that they are living in now is the way that is always was.

They must pretend to know only about the shit that's convenient. The garbage that supports their wack shit.

You cannnot directly link any sucka emcee out now with Young or Lil in front of his name to Kool G. Rap or any master lyricist.

Let me break down for you what Puff did and how he did it and what effect it had and has on the new dudes...

Boom it was '94, right? April. Illmatic had just dropped. No need for me to jock that album. We know it's status. Baby Nas on the cover. Whatever, whatever.

So boom in the fall Biggie's album came out and you know the first single was over the hit record Juicy. Which was already a hit.

But hey it was Biggie we ain't care.
Then Biggie's album cover had a picture of a baby biggie. they had bit off nas. bite means to copy someone else's shit, by the way.

Like if we breakin or poppin' and hit you wit some ill footwork then you take my shit across town and try to rep with that shit but ain't know my man julio was in the crowd watching, he gon scream out "you bitin"

then everyone gon start laughin at you cuz guess what?
    BITING IS CORNY.

My fault, now when they had bit Nas baby cover concept heads was like oh shit, what the deal with that?

So then we all rockin our tapes and he got the jawn big poppa on there where they bit the Isley Brothers between the sheets song.

We wanted more original bangers like Unbelievable but again, fuck it cuz it was biggie.

but another sinister force was at work here. He goes by the name of sean combs.

So then Boom they remixed the Big Poppa jawn and threw in some Versace for good measure. Now heads is really gettin sick cuz they like what's with the wack Jermain Dupri beat? Why is he rhymin about clothes and girls?

(side note: radio's primary fanbase is females 18-34. that's why all the wack shit shares chick friendly subject matter to gain radio play)

So boom it don't stop ("cuz we won't stop" - Puff Daddy), in 95 with Biggie in the forefront, Puff hit us with the Atom Bomb: One More Chance remix. New beat: El Debarge jawn that some would say Rashad Smith bit from Lord Finesse. Cuz Lord Finesse freaked it first.

But he wasn't talking about Versace, Cartier and gators.

    Under Puff, Biggie was.

Although Biggie's rhymes was ill - now doubt he could rip no matter the subject - the content of rhyming had changed.

Cuz face it, who don't like pussy, cars and money?

    I know I do.

But not in my music. Especially when it's forced.

And the subsequent rappers felt like to get pussy they had to rap about cars, jewelry and such.

So more songs were released in late 95 to early 96 with materialism as the subject matter. While your beat had to have already have been a hit or something that someone else had rocked on and was a hit.

Acceptance of this for beats, broke down the tolerance for dope shit on the beat side.

    But wait.

So here we are in the summer of '96 and the door is open for anybody to come through who talking about being a player, having versace, cristal, or diamonds.
and guess who steps through the door?

    You got it.

    Sean number two.
Jay-Z (or Shawn to be accurate)

    He had versace.

A beeper. Cell phones. Drug rhymes and a beat that somebody had already rocked over:

Ain't no Nigga is an EPMD hit.

Now it's late 96 and shit really is on fire.

So in 97 every month puff daddy had a "remix" featuring himself on the radio.
And mase came out. Oh wait I fucked that up. ma$e came out.
shit is mad fucked up by now and the RZA tried to fight back but the wheels were set in motion.

dudes where rhyming over songs that were already hits. talking nonsense about high fashion and cristal.

so now the tolerance was lowered.

DMX came out with "Where my dogs at?" Rhyming directly over Epmd's "Get the Bozack".

Puff Daddy and Ma$e rhymed over The message by Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel
    - I'd like to take this time to point out that The Message like all Black Music prior to Puff was about hope and awareness in the 'hood.

you think that's what Puff and the new dudes talked about?

    Un-unh.

    Get money. Playa hatin'.

Now dudes are seeing this deterioration of hiphop standards so they are like boom we can jump in right now and just keep the subject about ice and shit and won't nobody notice we ain't got no skills.

also another thing happened: You know how if you buy a toy keyboard or something and it has music built into it when you open it out of the box? this dude swizz beats "produced" a song outta of one of those.

Everybody saw it and beatmakers was like we can get away with that?

so up springs a very talented POP (keyword: POP) producer named timbaland with a song for the late Alliyah (damn I forgot her first single)

    The sound was unique
    it was on the radio
    he was young.
    so it's hiphop right?
    fuck no.

but dudes saw that and started to make their beats like him.

    Jay-z connected with him.

Player-type crime rap connected with bubblegum beats equal a million records sold.

shit is ALL fucked up by now.

but wait, master p. comes out with silk the shocker.
master P. drops Ghetto D. (make crack like this)
biting (and disrespecting) eric b. and rakim's classic while rapping as simplistic as possible.

Capitalizing off the ignorance of their people, the "no limit" squad did that record, "UNNNHH" some other bullshit, dropped an album by a gimmicky bi-polar no rhyme skills cat named "mystikal" and cleaned up.

Cashing in on half a billion.

Now Juvenile saw it was easy so he makes one of the most embarassing songs I've ever heard from my people called "Ha"

    Straight dumb shit.
    Silly ass beat.
Horrendous "rhymes" if you even wanna call it that.

So boom now here come the neptunes.
Cuz the game is wide open and any wack shit will fly.
they make a few songs using the exact same drum pattern and clean up.

the rest is probably current enough for when you started to listen to hiphop.

This is "standards reversal". Sorta like in the Willie Lynch story how they say they reversed the roles of the sexes and made black men lazy -- living with moms, or girlfriends, or girlfriend's moms, no career havin' or wantin' --and made the women the breadwinners.

This is the concept behind the reversing the standards for Black music
    it's systematic.

See manufactures need empty-headed, easily programmable consumers.

So that when they say buy or "Press Play" you do.
Therefore they have to constantly dumb you down and feed you your opinions so that when they tell you something is "hot" you jump and fork over your dough.

But you needn't be that easy. We're men not sheep.

all of our people prior to the two seans would make music that was creative and provide some sort of social commentary while having a thorough knowledge and influence of those that came before.

    but not these new dudes.
So what I rep is product.
    Not an era.

if that's the case just about every hov release could be  considered a concept album...he' hasn't  changed his concept since he stopped fucking with Original Flavor and that dude Ski who started "Roc-a-blok" records back in the day...do your research 80's babies...

you say jay and puff birthed mims and 50 but then why dont u blame g rap and kane for birthing jay and puff.

    ???????????????????????????????

I gotta disagree with you there.
I used to be a big fan of Jigga but he fell off the last 4 albums to me.
Only about 3 tracks on each album and maybe that number is high.

BUT, G-Rap and Kane didn't birth the Jigga we know.
That Jigga was Hawaiian Sophie Jigga and his name was Jay-Z, you remember, could be why Jaz-O (similarity?) had beef with Jigga a couple years back.

This Jay-Z is born out of the Biggie era, he didnt start soundin like this till he started kicking it with Biggie.
Didn't Nas cover this for you?

You gotta remember Jay was on they team, and he still biting Biggie versus'

And of Course I ain't mad at Big, thats my dude.
I've known of Jay since back in the 80's and liked him till the Blueprint Vol.2
    Shit was mad wack.

Sauce Money used to do work with him they got beef
    Jaz-O?
Jayo Felony think that Jay-Z pushed his album back becuzz of their beef.

    I'm not a Jay-Z hata, I just want tha old Jay-Z back
I know he's a grown man but Redman is too and he still flow that same fire.

Black People 1 is on point -- I'm glad to see him spittin' knowledge on this.  I never talk bad about Jay-Z 'cause I don't listen to him enough to care, but I just saw a video with him riding around in a Ferrarri and spinning around in a boat spittin' the same lyrics I've heard him spit on nearly every other track he does.  I don't blame him though -- its the people who buy it that make what it is, what it is.

He's right about '94 -- that's right around when hip-hop flip flopped and became rap more than it was hip-hop.  It was happening on the West Coast too -- Ice-T was getting political, Ice Cube was getting political -- but that got crushed by all that money talk.  'Pac held it down for a while, but even he walked that fine line between being a revolutionary and being a parody of a "thug" who only cared about "bitches and money".  I see Ras Kass falling that way as well -- makes you wonder how many great lyricists we keep missing out on because of how much the rap "game" has been corrupted.

No more "Fight the Power" -- just ice, grills, spinners and gats.

But like they say, this too shall pass.

Damn people always talking about "back in the days" if hip hop was the same as it was 10-20 years ago it wouldnt be hip hop. Why cant some people just accept diversity whether its wack or not. Do you really think a rapper talking about versace is gonna effect a rapper talking about conciousness in the hood? In dummy terms not everyone that listens to hip hop is from the hood nor balling some are in between and that alone should be celebrated. Imagine everyone and every song talking about the ghetto damn that would be depressing and not only that do you think millionaires stay in the ghetto to keep it "real"? if your from the ghetto you want out so if you have a chance to get out thats an accomplishment. Yeah puff is cheesy sometimes but you cant knock him, he got alot of brothers and sisters out of the slums. if it wasnt pop rap cheesy club bangers etc. then there wouldnt be anything called conscious rap or "real" hip hop. Balance is what makes the world what it is so stop all ya blood clot crying.

Went from seeing how many bitches I could fit in the truck
To three hots and a cot, is you kiddin or what?

When I got prices on my head, feds rushin my spot
A million haters want me dead, forced to carry a gat

It's a Catch-22, either you lose or you lose
That's the way the game structured, for real, niggaz to suffer
And I ain't neva been a buster, always stood on my feet
Like a man prepared to take whatever coming for me
A pussy nigga or polices with a warrant for me
I'm a G, prepared to die for what's important to me
Look anybody in the eye who say he want it wit me
Put up the house and bet the odds if it's comin from me
Ol G's say I need to learn to be patient
You telling me with these seven years of probation
Pistol charges and a host of other open cases
If niggaz only knew the kind of time I was facin
I try to keep it to myself, but sometimes I couldn't take it

The way I see it, black people need to do something new.  We did swing, we did jazz, we did bebop, we did blues, we did rock, we did gospel, we did funk, we did soul, we did techno, we did hip hop, now we got to keep moving.

Once whatever black folks do goes goes mainstream, it always dies out, gets watered down, has to go back underground to get refreshed.

I don't know what's next, but I do know we need something fresh in the atmosphere before we let all that material destroy the spirit.

In my opinion, East Coast rappers were always rapping about what they have.   Thats who we were.  Come on....Run DMC...LL, Kane....Brand Nubian..."Girbauds hanging baggy hillfigure on top"....Plenty of rappers to name a few.  Right now, Some artist are getting PAID! More money, more things to brag about....As far as the music...Sampling was a key to hip hop.  Just put in the song and rap over the instrumental.....Puff just happen to sample the right records....  I like Jays music and how he grew from a hustler from marcy to the corner office out the cul de sac.   People will always sample...  Thats my 2 cents....Im just a fan of Hip Hop..

His albums are laced with different topics that has the respect of being written out and thought over on paper.

you are a sallow listener. Did you forget the katrina track off of KC. You probably never hustled for anything in your life. All you hear is the money but can't see the bigger picture. If you wanna hear different topics write your own raps, hova is playin in his lane. Everybody aint gonna understand his flow thats just life.

His albums are laced with different topics that has the respect of being written out and thought over on paper.

you are a sallow listener. Did you forget the katrina track off of KC. You probably never hustled for anything in your life. All you hear is the money but can't see the bigger picture. If you wanna hear different topics write your own raps, hova is playin in his lane. Everybody aint gonna understand his flow thats just life.

All you cats on here arguing about people saying what is hiphop and what isn't need to listen before you speak.

Critizing someone for not being HipHop is just that, period.
It has nothing to do with other "Rap" artist.

    Definition of HipHop:
Hip hop music is a style of popular music composed of a rhythmic, rhyming vocal style called rapping (also known as emceeing) over backing beats and scratching performed on a turntable by a DJ. When combined with breakdancing and graffiti art, these are the four components of hip hop, a cultural movement which began in New York City in the 1970s, predominantly among African Americans and Latinos.[1] The term rap music is sometimes used synonymously with hip hop music, though it is also used to refer specifically to the practice of rapping.

"Hip hop is not all about business, but in fact it is art and literature that anyone can relate to. Hip hop advocates stopping violence, encouraging unity, love, peace and awareness. Hip hop teaches lessons in a creative way. Hip hop has something to say; it is not just about money, women and cars. That seems to be rap. Though hip hop may speak about issues such as disrespecting women, glorifying drugs and the use of guns, it is not glorifying them. Instead, it is merely saying they need to be done for survival"

    @ Payboy

for the sake of not starting anymore arguments i'll change it to top 4 RAP performances i've seen:

    4. P. Diddy (Oct 2001 B96 Halloween Bash [for those of you from chicago, i know b96 is extremely lame but the lineup included Fabolous (right when he came out) and Afroman (who put on a good show too) & some R&B acts] - while i'm not and never have been a fan of his music he won me over by putting on a really good show... now this was right after 9/11 and he pulled out a big flag and got a USA chant going (so there was obviously some emotion involved) but still he did put on a good performance

    3. Run DMC ( Q101 Jamboree 2001) - while Run DMC was extremely out of place at an alternative rock concert, and of course there was the fact that they were disrespected by being put on the 2nd stage and not the main one, they put on a really really good show.  Now i wasn't into Run DMC at the time (and i'm still not really) they rocked the house.  these white people were loving every minute of it too, they were moshing and all that.  Regardless they brought it.

    2. Twista (2005 Twista / Mike Jones show in milwaukee) - yes i jumped on the mike jones bandwagon when he came out (i actually saw him and paul wall perform in a Moo & Oink parking lot about 4 months before i went to this show) regardless of his lack of skills his cd was enjoyable (notice how i didn't say it was GOOD).  MIKE JONES! WHO? actually put on a good show, however Twista had a ridiculous performance.  You could hear understand every word he said and he performed the classics like Po Pimpin.  at the time it was BY FAR the best rap concert i had ever been too (i did go to that Ca$h Money / Ruff Ryders concert back in 99 or 2000).  But it only be surpassed by...

    1. Weezy F. Baby (2007 Street Dreams tour in Milwaukee) - after dealing with 4 maybe even 5 garbage opening acts, Rich Boy came on and i didn't understand a word he said until Throw Some D's on it came on (even then the only reason i knew what he said was because i knew the words already), then Jim Jones put on a really good show.  but then what i came to see a full set of Lil Wayne which was amazing, then he did almost another full set when Birdman came out.  by this time i was falling down because i was so fucked up but i didn't wanna disrepect Wayne by sitting down during his set... however when Jeezy and USDA came on i couldn't help but sit my ass down.  even though i was in my seat during most of the USDA performance it was good shit (because they did a lot off of Jeezy's solo CDs and not all that much USDA stuff).  Going to this concert was BY FAR my best memory from 4 years of college.

I agree that rappers glorify selling drugs and hustling. I don't agree that it's clearly their last option. Actually, I do, I just think that some hustlers bypass all other options and get straight to the stove, or the corner. I've never sold drugs, I've always made legit money and my pops wasn't around, moms wasn't givin me shit but the roof over my head. I still had a car when I turned 16. I went to school with the kids who were making decent grades, and come junior year said "fuck it i'm gonna be a stick up kid." or "yo if you need that green just holla at me." "yo slim, I got that white." That was before they went and tried to find a legit job. You started hustlin at 16? There's no possible way you can begin to imagine how many options you have at that age. It's easy money, instant gratification. You been in school for 10 years, you got 2 left, and you're NOT gonna finish? There are people who do hustle as a last option, but those people aren't rapping. They're too busy hustling. They sure as hell aren't rapping about hustlin. Real hustlers don't need to brag about what they got, because you can tell when you see them.

Rappers are dry snitching on themselves. We wonder why so many people are getting locked up on drug charges and gun charges. Because your song on the radio about selling drugs and/or having guns is heard by just more than the hood. You have your right to free speach, but remember everything you say can and will be used against you, and that's not just once you're in cuffs. Please believe if you go platinum and you are talking about drugs and guns Bill O'Reilly's stankin ass will be talking about what a bad seed you are and a detriment to society you have become, all on national television. The alphabet boys got kids who listen to their CDs, and know every word. That's how the cops hear about what you're doing, or have done. You think once a fed's kid comes home talkin about hittin the kitchen and whippin pots, and comeback, that they don't know what they're talkin about?  They DAMN sure know the name of every kind of gun you're gonna name. They get paid to figure out the when and where, but you're giving them the what.

I'm a T.I. fan, and this shit is sad to see. But he fucked up himself. But if a person wronged you and continues to do so, how can people anticipate another album of this poisonous bullshit?

And I see no men taking a stand.

She enjoys kickin it here and she does have an outlet.

But in your outlets you rarely get to discuss the stuff we discuss here.

    Which wasn't a point I had considered.

Because I thought about all that stuff because of the story about the girl and I was thinking that by career choice, I'm blessed with a creative outlet.

So I'm always creating but it's not always music and/or hip hop related.
    Matter fact it rarely is.
'Cept if I whip up a beat. Or cut up some rekkids. Or do an urban project.

I think I may try to brainstorm a real hiphop cafe/bar with a real live DJ everyday.

In locations in the top 10 markets.

Maybe a bar and alchohol would lead to ninjas wilin'.

So maybe I'll keep the idea a cafe for now.

i feel u on the instant gratification thing. fa sho that's a nationwide epidemic! i also feel on the rappers dry snitchin' on themselves 2. i was just having this convo about the police & Feds, etc. kids listening to their music and so they know who these rappers are. and i believe that they don't like their kids idolizing rappers so of course there is a personal investment in trying to destroy them. to villanize them. and now they on CNN talkin about it, laughing at him. crackin' jokes on his real name: Clifford Harris. i guess all this talk about being a G, don't mean shit if u don't know how to adapt when it's most crucial...

i just read ur post, first, correction: i said u got other folks fired up today. u don't get fired up, at least not 2 much! LOL u know i co-sign your point all day, if that means anything.

i didn't actually listen the 8ball & MJG, i think i always just overlooked them. but i did see y'all talking about them. maybe i'll give 'em a chance. if i can go back and find the links.

'ppreciate u getting back at me about the expression topic. so u got an outlet thru your work 2. i feel blessed for that 2. i think people underestimate the value in that...compared to money and all the rest.

so u got me thinking again cause i think what i love about this form of expression is just what u were getting at.

my main form of expression is solitary, like with the writing. or around only so many issues, like with our groups or with the therapy appts. altho with the youngsta-only group we run, i'm getting the opportunity to kind of develop the curriculum while i'm running it.

here on AHH, i get to interact with a myriad of diverse people talking about a vast amount of personally interesting topics. that's a major difference to me.

yeah man...I got friends who are lost causes where like fizzroy said it was like talkin to a brick wall. We're sittin at they house at 15 years old and they talkin about oh I'm not gonna go to school tomorrow. Fuck it. Bow Wow got famous when he was 12 and he suck. They got their mind made up that its hustlin or nothin.

I got friends now who were in the game and been out of school for 5 or 6 years talkin about I think I'm gonna go to VoTech (a vocational school) and get certified to be a mechanic. Or they wanna get their GED and go to community college. I don't know about everywhere else, but down here if you are enrolled in the public school system, you can apply to go to VoTech and the schoolboard will pay for it. All of it, 100%. Same thing with the colleges around here, with dual enrollment. When you graduate from the vocational program, they give you a graduation present. If you get certified as a barber/hair stylist, you get clippers and scissors and all that. If you leave as a mechanic you get a brand new set of tools. All for free. I got boys who graduated high school with a diploma and a certification comin out makin 50k a year. People from my high school graduated with a diploma and an associates degree. Now these dudes 5 years down the line talkin about "i needed the money what the fuck else was I gonna do?" Take ya ass to the movie theatre and get a job like everyone else at the school. Hit up McDonalds. You get paid shit, but guess what? FREE FOOD. as much as you want. all day every day. If you gotta feed the family, go cop yourself a job at a fastfood place, or a resteraunt and talk to the manager. Most managers gonna understand that if you're in school and you're really takin care of the fam like that, they'll hook you up.

As far as the rappers learnin to adapt, I think they're in a tough position, kinda. Their first CD drops and it's G shit, top to bottom. Go Platinum, get some money, move to the burbs. Cut all ties with stupid mother fuckers who aren't gonna do anything but get you in trouble. "I got money now, I'm tryin to keep it."

    Like 518p said earlier today

Can't live in your house from jail.
Can't drive the whip from jail.

Now, you first CD reflected the life you said you were living, so now, you straightened up. "I got money and I wanna keep it, and enjoy it." So here you are, 2 weeks after you 2nd CD dropped and you're getting hated on. You went from "yup in my white tee" to "louie and prada, dolce & cabana." You went from "having stacks of money" to "having stocks and investments." And what do you hear? What a sellout. Fuck (said rapper). He ain't shit. He got money left, and never looked back. If it was me...call me a sell out, you don't put food on my family's plate. I got money and left? Ya damn right. Nobody grows up saying I wanna live in the hood forever. People gonna hate on you no matter what you do, so might as well keep yourself out of trouble. Let them hate on you for selling out and doing something positive ::cough cough:: MASTER P.

Oh ok boom buss it out.

Now right you know I'm out here in L.A. on my business shit, right?

So I don't really get a chance to interact with black people the way I wanna cuz the city is divided by this freeway called the 10.

and all the shit I have to take care of is well above the 10 and black people, Compton, South Central, Hawthorne, Gardena, Long Beach all that shit is well below the 10.

So last week right, I goes to see that new movie with Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan and Katt Williams.

And it's in this part of town that's just below the 10 but not far enough below the 10 to be hood.

Ay there's a new film title.

    BELOW THE TEN

    Like across 110th.

But anyway, this little city is where Sony Studios formerly Columbia Studios is at.

    It's called Culver City.

So I'm there and I ain't been around this many black people since I left the East Coast.

    So I was happy.

And I'm just out there bussin' it up. talking to people listening to conversations and shit.

Fuckin with people sittin next to me and so on.

By the way the screening was filled to the gills and ain't nuntin jump off.

Muvafuckas just laughin and havin a good time.

So this crazy thought was goin through my head as I'm listenin' and vibin' with everybody and I'm like

    "Hol' up. Is L.A. country?"

I mean like are black people from L.A. country?

When people from the Northeast travel around the nation there's this thing that you pick up when you meet people.

People from the Northeast have a self-imposed pressure to be trendsetters.

So when we meet someone we size up their fashion sense. Peep thier footwear first.

See if they have good decision making skills as it applies to picking out footwear.

    Be it sneakers.

    Gucci loafers.

    Tims or whatever.

But that shit is an art.
But it also tells a person's lifestory.

And we also check something far more shallow:
We use our instincts to try and detect if a muvafucka is concerned about his or her "cool factor". Like if a person is cognizant about being cool and in control.

Now country people don't give a fuck about none of that shit.

And when northeasters sniff that out then they are like "ohhh okay, this a country muvafucka right here."

Like a couple of those tacky hairstyles.
    Bama ass prom pictures.

That shit ain't really what's up up north.

Then of course you got the drawl or the accents.

Black people from L.A. got heavy accents.

Not the ones that work out here and live above the ten.

Nine times outta ten they drop that shit and make their voice squeaky and whiny to fit in with the white people.

    But lemme go back.

Music is 1/4th of my life.

I handle a lotta of other stuff.

And member last week when I was semi-riding for the kids who feel the need to grab their guns and go shooting?

Well I always find myself trying to defend middle America or anywhere but L.A. and N.Y.

Because see this is where the studios and networks are.

And here is where we feed popularity to the rest of the nation.

Now if you notice, all the shows and films always portray more or less coastal and not middle american characters.

    Never "country" characters.

In fact, they make fun of county characters. They are always the heel.

Like they are backwoods rednecks or something.

So I've been going to bat for just and even portrayals.
Because I feel that coastal characters don't accurately reflect the makeup of this country.

It only reflects the viewpoint of the creators of the content because we are usually coastal people.

    But in reality?

This is really a "country" nation.

    It's not just L.A. and N.Y.

    It's wyoming.
    idaho.
    montana.
    missouri.
    wisconsin.
    and of course memphis tennesee.

    Where Eightball and MJG from.

    Is that right?

So I'm watching all the videos and I'm listening to some because all weren't videos.

And I started thinking about my philosphy for features and TV about how people try to ostracize the country folk when in actuality the Unites States IS country.

So I was saying to myself maybe black people are a country-ass people.

Because, the midwest, the west, the south even western PA like pittsburgh all that's considered "country".

And I refrained from commenting on the whole TI thing but the week before last, when they had lil wayne's mugshot up, I felt a lil sinking feeling in my stomach.

Cuz even tho I 'ont fuck with his entertainment product I 'ont wanna see him knocked.

I say this all the time: I'll pop shit every day all day about a down south entertainer but if I'm driving down the turnpike or 95 and the cops is whoppin on lil john's or lil wayne's ass then I'm jumpin out and we rumblin the punk police to the death.

Our squabbles about tastes in music are just that.

    Squabbles.

    Saturday morning backyard slapbox bouts.

But even tho I don't fuck with TI, I just don't wanna see the misfortune of one of my own.

So anyway after listening to the Eightball and MJG, I started reevaluating the market for this product.

Assuming this is a "country" nation.
And the majority of my people here probably are "country".

I don't know what to make of my reevaluation just yet.

I know one thing, it really made the core classic hip hop fans seem extremely exclusive.

    Like a select few.

Of course it made me appreciate the foundation that was laid even more.

But I'm grappling with the new language I'm learnin.

That's probably the key right there.

    These is my people.
    And this is their langauge.

It's funny cuz it's like I'm learnin something extremely fundamental here.

So I noticed that the sound on the tracks you sent me are on some laid back either sampled or replayed curtis mayfield shit.

I bet y'all probably call that "pimp" shit, right?
    I can hear it now.

Not saying I IDed any samples as Curtis Mayfield. But you know what I'm talking about as far as the tempo is concerned?

    Slow and mellow.

I really appreciated that them dudes sprinkled messages throughout thier rhymes.

And they had the chopped lexus coupes.

I'll push one them right now.

But the sound was completely different.
    Mad laid back.

Yo, is that the south's flavor?

I like those brothers. I can feel what they are saying, but it's not like the sound that was laid down from up north when hip hop was originated.

But the shit wasn't irritating on some why the fuck he send me this?

It just was like delving into a new genre of music.

But it made me rethink some things that I ain't quite worked out yet.

    That's what I thought.

I'll put it like this..It's a reason why certain rappers stood out in the South like UGK, Eightball and MJG, and Outkast..When all of those groups first dropped down they brought a different flavor to what we were brought up hearing from our southern artist..Everything before them was booty shake, bounce or some form of dance music..The groups I mentioned music was appealing because most of us grew up off of the tracks they sampled through our parents. Factor that in with the way they painted the picture of what was going on in the streets and that was an instant classic down south..You had other guys that did it but not in the same way..The formulas they used when they dropped brought on movements down here..We looked forward to them niggaz albums like everybody do 50 now..I forgot about the Geto Boyz but UGK and Ball and G did it with no marketing and just off the strength of their talent at the time..They were going gold just off word of mouth..

****This was posted on Sandrarose.com..... If its tru Its kinda fucced up the waythe fed went into the house shit they already had TIP in custody and they knew kids were there

A source close to Tameka "Tiny" Cottle has confirmed that Tiny is pregnant again with T.I.'s baby. The sex of the baby is unknown. The baby would be the couple's second child together. Tiny delivered a stillborn baby girl this past March and the couple were determined to have another baby.

Meanwhile, T.I., real name Clifford Harris, was denied bond in a federal magistrate court today. In attendance at the proceedings were Tiny, two of T.I.'s other baby mamas and all of T.I.'s children except for King who remained at home. Tiny, who was arrested on marijuana and Ecstasy possession on Saturday, took King to visit his father in jail yesterday. I'm told the first thing T.I.P. did was apologize to Tiny.

My source informed me that King is still traumatized from the raid which took place at T.I.'s home in College Park on Saturday. ATF agents simultaneously broke down the front door while smashing out windows in the back of the house and tossing stun grenades into the house. King, 3, was in a downstairs room playing at the time of the raid. The other children had just left the home to go to acting class. I'm told T.I.'s 15-year-old nephew ran out the back door and was tackled and stomped by ATF agents.

While agents found T.I.'s gun collection in his bedroom safe, no drugs were found in the home. Many have questioned why T.I. had such an arsenal in the first place. The answer is simple: boys love guns. My brother, Ray, has been an avid gun collector since his teens so I have no problem believing that. My brother obtained his license to carry a concealed weapon at the age of 18. He quickly amassed a collection of guns much larger than T.I.'s collection. Today, my brother, who never attended college, owns a GNC store in Dunnedin, Florida (a suburb of Tampa). My brother has never shot anyone.

It's easy to question why T.I. was buying machine guns and silencers, but what gun collector (my brother included) doesn't own a machine gun? It doesn't mean they intend to start a war. I imagine it would be difficult for a boy like T.I. to turn down the chance to own a machine gun. It doesn't make him a bad person.

Family friends state the bodyguard, whose initials are C.W., had a license to purchase certain weapons legally and offered to purchase guns for T.I. from the moment he started working for T.I. in July. That should have been a red flag. The family source said T.I. is not doing well in federal custody. "This is very hard on T.I.P.," said the source.

Yea, that's when hip hop wasn't all positive but most of the music was a true depiction of what was going on and niggaz was on some real shit. But yea, this new shit is watered down and the industry is full of wannabes and shit..Most of these new niggaz ain't been off the porch but want to talk about all this street shit..You could tell them old catz was in the mix of shit and  was talking about the things they been through...That Big Mike "Playa Playa" was told in a way that even the squarest of niggaz could've understood it..He might not've liked it because he was probably that other dude but he had to respect it..Yea, I use to dig Mac Mall when he first came out too..It was a video he had out in which he got shot..I think that's when I first started checking for him..The West had shit on lock then..

    What up peoples.

Lot of intelligent dialogue going on in here.  Had to get on one of my true knowledge/ student mentality moments.  Fell back, read, and learned.

    Couple things stood out to:

Black People 1's tear on the Seans.  I found it interesting that nobody came to the aid of Puff (rightfully so).  Wow Puff, you really dug a whole in the community.

Gawga's rep for the south.  The south should be proud.  Heres a guy that can support south music and break things down in a fashion that east and west coast guys can understand.  And not just hope that by repeatedly saying "Quit Hatin the Souf" that hopefully somebody will listen.

Speakin of, Im going to South Carolina the end of the week.  Lil sis just had a baby down there.  Miss my peeps.  Im where north and south collides (move over weezy and juelz).  Philly/SC connection, gotta respect it.

    ...where'd i leave off...oh yea

BigSlimfl, I cant remember if you mentions you were white or not.  I think you did.  Its neither here nor there, but sometimes I relate to you, and Im like this dude be saying some real shit.  I like when you step out of the "Im just here to talk about sports" mode, because when you do chime in, you spit some real shit.  Just wanted to let you know, i see you homie.

What up BFG, thanks for the sentiments the other day.  I let homie get to me a little bit.  I just recently rewatched BAMBOOZLED by Spike Lee.  Much watch by everybody.   So fukkin deep.  Spike the man, hands down.  But I been on my shit lately, kind of like the feeling you get after you watch roots.  I aint takin no shit right now.  First time Im watched bamboozled I was like 16 or 17, a friend suggested i rewatch it because, in my new state of consciousness I would pick up even more from it.  He was right...

I think P Diddy is like that Pierre De La Qwa guy from the movie.  Shit I think a lot of dudes out here is like him.  That shit was just deep.  A must see people!

I see Twon Da Don in here too.  I fukks wit u.  We aint always in agreement with things, but I think we got a mutual respect.

Shout out to 518, Friend or Foe, and Jub Shine too.  I pick up a few things from yall like daily.

    by the way,

just grabbed this like best of Jada mixtape.  And got some Best of Nas shit too.  Those gone bump in the car for a minute.  When I get down to SC though before I know it that flavor gone kick back in.  Fux around and be talking country, I caught myself the other day talkin to my sis.  Its in the veins baby!

Im crushed by this TI thing. Somebody dropped some lyrics up there earlier, that was deep.  I know he was wrong, but its still fukked up.  Cant believe TIP got caught slippin by the feds.  He a smart dude, now he gone be a sacrificial lamb in this "message to hip hop and their constituents" by the FEDS.

2007 was a good and bad year for hip hop.  Not only did all the clowns drop albums, but damn i got to admit.  We got some bangers this year, and some to come...

Guess Hip Hop aint Dead.  Its just going through an identity crisis.  I'll probably comment on the Jay Z issue and the Nas new nigga album later.

Jay-Z isn't the greatest emcee ever, but he has some good shit. Some of you guys hating Jay-Z... ehh whatever man. You're entitled to your opinion, but stop acting like he never put out any good music, none of it has meaning. Kingdom Come was hot and it was sophisticated, and it flew over a lot of heads. He was really breakin shit down on some of that album. Plus Blueprint has some deep shit, even The Dynasty Roc La Familia album. Black album had some substance too. I'm not gonna write a fucking 500 word essay on here, but check the catalogue man. Jay-Z has dropped some substantial shit and is definitely one of the greatest rappers of all time, and he should be in the top 20 list of anyone's greatest emcees, I feel. Damn. You make it seem like Jay-Z is just as bad as Yung Joc or Diddy or some shit. Take it easy.
