    R.I.P. TO DONDA WEST

    Sad.

I don’t really have much else to say, you know? Read the story and send your condolences over here.

Just as a footnote, there are rumors out there, because the cause of death hasn’t exactly been revealed, but I am going to chill. I have respect for Kanye and definitely know that losing a parent is painful enough without gossip.

T.I. GET BUSY ON NEXT ALBUM!

Not sure of the origins of this one, but I heard that T.I. is bored while he is on house arrest. With nothing to really do, he’s resorted to recording new songs in his home studio. They are saying this new album in progress is Paper Trail. Apparently T.I. hasn’t written his raps down since his debut album. Hmmmm…I think we need an audit to verify rappers that make this claim. Anyway, T.I. is now writing his raps down and that’s the reason for the album title.

    LARRY SMITH – GET BETTER!

Oh yeah, if you don’t know who Larry Smith is, let me help you.

Early in his Hip-Hop career, Smith crafted songs for Kurtis Blow and Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, rap’s early super stars. He later produced Run DMC’s first two albums, their self-titled debut (1984) and King of Rock (1985). Additionally, Smith wove a string of hits for Whodini, including their 1984 debut Escape with hits like “Friends.”

Anyway, now that you know he is a legend, you need to know that Larry had a stroke last week. He’s lost much of the use of his body, but expected to get better. You might remember Larry getting his props as Whodini was honored at the Hip-Hop Honors this year. Hey, he had a Caddy before Run DMC – nuff said.

"Took a test to become an emcee/ and Orange Krush became amazed at me / So Larry put me inside his Cadillac / The chauffeur drove off and we never came back..."

Read the whole story here. Get better, Larry!

    50 CENT’S NEXT SIGNEE?

You know, I heard that 50 Cent and Jim Jones have a bit more in common. No, its not friction with Cam’ron! For what its worth, I am hearing that 50 Cent might have an interest in Max B as a member of the Unit. Don’t know for sure, but there is some talking going on. What I am hearing is that, since Max is already signed to Jim, this may be a joint venture in the making like The Roc did with Freeway. Maybe? I don’t know. I thought Max and pending cases though?

    SHUT THE STORE DOWN!

I heard a certain so-called future of Hip-Hop rapper / conscious rapper was in the J. Crew Store inside the Time Warner building. Well, I won’t name names, but will say this is not Talib Kweli (the homey!). Anyway, I heard this artist wanted to shut the entire store down so that he could shop in peace. Well, the people in the store were like, “Who the f**k are you?” I heard the rapper then made a scene and nothing came out of it anyway. J. Crew is a Hip-Hop spot too…why would they front?

VIDEO FOR “HUSTERS” WITH NAS AND THE GAME!

We all wanted to know what was up with this video. I heard Nas and the director had creative differences, but the should have put this out last year. This is an OK video for me. I like it a lot.

    JAY-Z VS DMX!

    ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

The experts are estimating that bootleggers cost “American Gangster” about $10 million at the box office in lost revenue. D-D-D-DAMN!

Amy Winehouse’s hubby is in jail for assault. Maybe Amy can get free now! Don’t bet on it. She said he’s been set up…right.

One bit of good news is Kanye West is that Graduation just went 2x plat. I can just say that his mother got to see all that a proud parent could see.

I heard Lil' Wayne showed up to the Jay-Z concert yesterday in New York.

In an interview on Atlanta radio, Diddy reportedly referred to his new daughter, Chance, as another "heir to the throne."

You know how the writers are going on strike in Hollywood? I heard the networks are firing them and hiring new ones in droves.

Here is a lil’ Diddy of a video. Sharon Jones is the woman that inspired Amy Winehouse. No, this video isn’t old, but they shot it like that to rep her style. Check her.

K-Fed and his lawyer are calling for Brit Spears to have her driver’s license revoked.

Duane “Dog” Chapman has reportedly forgiven his son for snitching on him using the “N-Word.” The son’s girlfriend is not as forgiving for being called the “N-Word.”

    RANDOM QUOTE

One of my readers on Kanye West’s mother:

“That woman was a part of Chicago that people don't even understand. Anybody that took an English class at Chi State knew that lady was truly an angel.”

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

    Sometimes…the beef is never over.

Well, this is what happened in Orlando, Florida – where Mickey and Minnie can catch a hot one on the way to Disney. According to police, Timothy Cleary of Apopka started punching the body of a dead person in a casket - during a funeral. Well, you know the people mourning tore Cleary up and then somebody called 911 for him. I can’t believe this madness. What is the law for something like this? Bond was set at $350. Nobody knows what prompted this fool to do that.

He’s probably going to have beef with the family for the rest of his life now.

    ON FRANK LUCAS:

So, if you didn’t read our Frank Lucas feature story, please do. You have to see the tension! You know I stay connected to the people that know the people. So, here is a commentary on Frank Lucas from one of the OGs that I talk to regularly.

Frank Lucas is such a pathological liar. I'm not mad at him though because he pulled it off. No one knew who this joker was until American Gangster but everyone knew who Nicky Barnes was/is. Frank has waffled on his rep as a killer in various interviews. In his first article 7 yrs ago he claimed to have killed some dude in front of a crowd like the scene in the movie. There's no way that n***a had $250 million in cash and assets in the 70's and not make national headlines. I knew he was lying all the time but the amazing thing to me is he actually tries to defend his lies. He knows he told on 100 people and they all weren't cops. To me that's not an issue because common sense would tell anyone the only way for him to be on the street is if he gave everyone up. Snitching is not selective. You tell it all or you tell nothing if you wanna walk. But that's show biz and another example of how entertainment is just that... entertainment. I wish black people would stop acting as if any of this is GOSPEL. Rather than pick up a book and do some research we just pop in a DVD or CD or go to the movies. When I listen to all the back and forth I get nauseous. Some of us are so gullible we're sheep-like. I we understand that every sheep's ultimate destination is the slaughter house.

    BILL MAHER GETS SONNED!

Normally, I like Bill Maher, but this time, he just got sonned - and he deserved to get sonned. I am not going to go all into 911, because you know and I know I’ve been there. But this time, I am just going to play the sonnery.

    ILL PICS!

Halle Berry is either giving some really sexy looks or is really tired of being pregnant. Maybe both. (Thanks LayLa for sending the pic!)

Vibe recently held a party for their upcoming awards show. Well, I wasn't even invited, but I got pictures of people that were. Here are some.

Keesha Sharp looking super duper dope.

Chrisette Michelle and her cute smile showed up.

This is the dude from "New York Undercover." Maybe he was really undercover, because he looked way different back in the day.

Cee-Lo is the man. How can a chubby dude be cool enough to rock a tight shirt?

David Banner isn't looking like the Hulk these days. More like..."Dr. David Banner: physician; scientist. Searching for a way to tap into the hidden strengths that all humans have."

Somebody must have dropped some bread crumbs, because a bird came to the Vibe Awards.

    GOOD MORNING!

Kanye keeps pushing the boundaries. Check out a leaked version of "Good Morning." I heard that "Flashing Lights" is actually the next song.

    TOMORROW, WE LOVE YOU!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!

We should pull rappers' cards when they brag about their skills like that. I got respect for him though. Make the most out of your incarceration, make some dough under the gun like "Fuck dem Police! Ay, miss up here we call 'em  "wifebeaters" cause of them fat old ignorant dudes that used to wear em and slap their lady around. We took em and called em that cause we didn't respect that. They come with a code: If you're wearin' a "A" shirt you can be a macho dick to women (I mean in a funny way , clownin on that machismo shit), but if you see or hear about a man hittin a woman, you gotta fuck em up. My homies and I have stomped a few fuckers for layin hands on a lady. "wifebeaters" is us using something that was kind of a symbol of domestic violence and using that to do the opposite. Ya gotta respect women. There is never any reason to use that pimp hand on a woman, that shit'll get ya slapped up if I hear about it.

At the end of the day Jay-Z got longevity, and despite the way he does does it, it works for him. No matter what you think about another man, you have to know what works for you. So I can critique Jay's approach, but I am still always 100 on my own approach. A lot of these rappers like DMX were not 100 on their own approach and fell by the way side. Let's keep the critiques on a musical basis, Jay-Z bit a lot of shit, but as a business man/rapper it don't get no better. If you want to learn how to do it watch him. Puffy is a sharp business man but he was never really a rapper.

As far as dude talking about Frank Lucas. Yeah Frank is a character, but the thing is this. I received quite a few messages about who was bigger than Rayful in DC and I am not going to answer that. Let's just say Ray didn't actually make 70 million a month, the FEDS trumped the charges up on him. They never caught Ray doing anything, he was the first victim of those Drug Kingpin laws, Rico, and Conspiracy charges. They estimated his net worth based on the retail value of what they thought a Kilo would go for at the time.

Ray said that he only had around 40 million cash at any given point in time. Ray was a wholesaler not a retailer, that is why the FEDS numbers were all blown up. He moved a lot of weight, but it was dirty cheap. That is how DC got the reputation for being a wholesale market that was rivaling the south. Cats from up north didn't have to go all the way to Florida to get it cheap. He only sold coke, mainly crack. He didn't have an "organization", he had a distribution network. Cats used to try and rob him all the time, he was paying dudes to drop bodies and that is why he was so hot. He used to ride around the city in Limos, Jags, Porsche's. His entourage would be like 12 cars deep. He shut down Georgetown, a young black dude with no job shutting down Georgetown, he was stupid. He had the 50-100,000 rolly's with the diamonds in the face before any of these rappers could afford that shit. He was only like 25 years old when he got caught.

Now here is the history lesson. DC has been in the drug game for decades, you think a 25 year old who got put on by his father when he was 18 and got his connect when he was like 21 or 22 was the biggest negro doing it? He only had a 5 or 6 year run. Not everybody is flashy and care about the fame. If I asked you who was running the AFO now that Francisco Javier Arellano-Felix was sentenced to life, could you name him? Did you even know who Francisco Javier Arellano-Felix was until now that he is caught? See that is my point, so dude talking about Frank is lying because he was not known sounds suspect to me. He sounds like your average negro. That is why I respected Frank when he apologized and said he did it all wrong. He should have quit while he was ahead, but hindsight is 20/20.  Cats today still think it's about the flash when it's not.

The real crooks and pushers sit a little higher up the totem pole. You never see them in the street, or hear their names until they get caught. If they're the rich, white, politician tyypes, they might never be 'caught'. The feds just annex their dough and they move to South America or some shit, like old nazis.

I can't fit boards and all that into my 1 bedroom apartment, so I gotta go digital, there's just so much more out on the market since I last put togther a studio. Money ain't a problem, but space is. I don't wanna throw money down the drain buyin' programs I don't need at this point. I can always upgrade.

That's why he was featured in the New Yorker but if Frank was as low-key as he said he was, he wouldn't have done an interview anyway. Who the fuck knows. AG is still a top 5 gangster flick.

Bill Maher is still a solidier for the machine otherwise he wouldn't keep his job. He can only be so controversial. With that being said,  It is strange that a collapsin' went straight down. Basic physics and common sense will tell you there's something wrong with that.

All pregnant women go through the tired of being pregnant phase. I got blamed for all kinds of shit when my girl was pregnant. Cussed at. Shit thrown at me. All kinds of shit. I think in the ring with Mike Tyson would've been a better place for me then. Pregnant women are mean. lmao. (Halle still looks good though)

I saw another longer video of Jay Z and DMX battling on Youtube before but now I can't find it.  I don't know if it is THE battle that Dame Dash was talking about but the recording was really bad (sound was okay but the camera was really jerky) as if some dude was recording the event on the 'downlow'.

Jay would spit a verse... then DMX would spit a verse... just back and forth like that.  Rhymes were dope but there was no way they were off the top of the dome...

For the record, Jay Z spits some rhymes, writes them down or records them, reworks them, tightens them up, adds different sections to each other to make longer verses, memorizes them, and then spits out the finished product.  If you think he is spitting those rhymes off the top of his dome completed then you probably also think that Tupac and Left Eye are alive and chillin' out somewhere on a beach in Cuba...

If money isn't a problem "Pro Tools" is the industry standard for sequencing and recording. You can use "Reason" or  "Q-Logic" to make the beats they've got huge sound libraries and "Cool Edit Pro" or "Sound Forge" can be used for mastering. Hopefully that helps you out.

    my lil thoughts:
People we have to stop thinking we're God...stop trying to play God...and stop giving people credit making them think they are God...we are Godly but should leave His plans and patterns of life alone! Understanding it is one thing, but manipulating it, thats another...be happy with who you are and what you have. Its yours for a reason. Dont fugg up God's design....dont go against his plan. The more and more folks try to top Him the more and more He'll let you know..I am God, and you'll never out do me...

...also cant believe some give GW that much credit to pull off something like that...the greatest trick the Devil pulled on the world was convincing them he didnt exist...(fake)

LUPE FIASCO - Dumb It Down lyrics
    (feat. Gemini)

    [Verse 1:]
    I'm fearless
    Now hear this
    I'm earless
    And I'm peerless
    That means I'm eyeless
    Which means I'm tearless
Which means my iris resides where my ears is
    Which means I'm blinded
But I'mma find it I can feel it's nearness
But I'mma veer so I don't come near
Like a chicken or a deer
But I remember I'm not a listener or a seer so my windshield smear
Here, you steer, I really shouldn't be behind this, clearly cause my blindness
The windshield is minstrel, the whole grill is roadkill, so trill and so sincere. Yeah, I'm both them there
Took both pills, when a bloke in a trench coat and the locs in the chair had approached him here
And he clear as a ghost, so a biter of the throats in the mirror
The writer of the quotes for the ghosts who supplier of the notes to the living
Riveting is rosy, pockets full of posies, given to the mother of the deceased. Awaken at war, 'til I'm restin' in peace

    [Chorus 1:]
You goin' over niggas' heads Lu (Dumb it down)
They tellin' me that they don't feel you (Dumb it down)
We ain't graduate from school nigga (Dumb it down)
Them big words ain't cool nigga (Dumb it down)
Yeah I heard Mean And Vicious nigga (Dumb it down)
Make a song for the bitches nigga (Dumb it down)
We don't care about the weather nigga (Dumb it down)
You'll sell more records if you (Dumb it down)

    [Verse 2:]
    And I'm mouthless
    Which means I'm soundless
Now as far as the hearing, I've found it
It was as far as the distance from the earring to the ground is
But the doorknockers on the ear of a stewardess in a Lear
She fine and she flyin, I feel I'm flying by'em 'cause my mind's on cloud nine and I'm a mime at the same time
Pimps see the wings on the underground king
    Who's also Klingon
    To infinity and beyond
Something really stinks, but I Sphinx like Leon
    Or lying in the desert
I'm flying on pegasus you're flying on the pheasant
Rider of the white powder, picker of the fire flowers, spit hot fire like Dylon on Chappelle's skit
Yeah, smell it on my unicorn, snort the white horse, but toot my own horn (sleep)

    [Chorus 2:]
You've been shedding too much light Lu (Dumb it down)
You make'em wanna do right Lu (Dumb it down)
They're getting self-esteem Lu (Dumb it down)
These girls are trying to be queens Lu (Dumb it down)
They're trying to graduate from school Lu (Dumb it down)
They're starting to think that smart is cool Lu (Dumb it down)
They're trying to get up out the hood Lu (Dumb it down)
I'll tell you what you should do (Dumb it down)

    [Verse 3:]
    And I'm brainless
    Which means I'm headless
    Like Ichabod Crane is
    Or foreplay-less sex is
    Which makes me stainless
With no neck left to hang the chain with
    Which makes me necklace-less
    Like a necklace theft
And I ain't used my headrest yet
They said they need proof like a vestless chest 'bout the best, fair F-F-jet in the nest
Who exudes confidence and excess depth
Even Scuba Steve would find it hard to breathe
    Around these leagues
My snorkle is a tuba, Lu the ruler around these seas
Westside Poseidon, Westside beside'em, chest high and rising
Almost touching the knees of stewardess and the pilot
    Lucky they make it flowered
Personal floating devices, tricks falling out of my sleeves
    David Blaine
    Make it rain
    Make a boat
    I make a plane
Then, I pull the plug and I make it drain
Until I feel like flowing and filling it up again..(Westside)

Lupe Fiasco - The Cool lyrics

    He came back
In the same suit that he was buried in
Similar to the one his grand father was married in
Yes... he was still fresh to death
bling, two ear-rings, a chain laying on his chest
He still had it cuz they couldn't find it
And the bullets from his enemies sat like two inches behind it
smelled the Hennesy from when his niggas got reminded
and poured out liquor in his memory, he didn't mind it, But...
He couldn't sip it fast enough
So the liquor was just filling the casket up
floating down by his feet was the letter from his sister
Second Grade hand-writing simply read "I miss ya"
Suit jacket pocket held his baby daughter's picture
Right next to it one of his man's stuck a swisher
He had a notion as he laid there soaking
Saw that the latch was broken, he kicked his casket open
    and he...

    [Chorus]

This life goes passing you by
It might go fast if you lie
You go and you live then you die...

    O-oh-oh-ohh

If life goes passing you by
    Don't cry
    If you breaking the rules
    Making your moves
    Paying your dues...
    Chasing the cool

Not at all nervous as he dug to the surface
Tarnished gold chain is what he loosened up the earth with
He used his mouth as a shovel to try and hollow it
and when he couldn't dirt spit... swollowed it
Working like a.. hmm.. reverse archaeologist
Except.. his buried treasure was sunshine
So when some shined through a hole that he had drove
it reflected off the gold and almost made son blind
He grabbed on to some grass, he climbed
Pulled himself up out of his own grave and looked at the time
On the watch that had stopped six months after the shots
[ The Cool lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
That had got him in the box wringing Henny out his socks
Figured it was hours because he wasn't older
Used some flowers to brush the dirt up off his shoulders - so..
With a right hand that was all bones and no reason to stay
    Decided to walk home
    so he..

    [Chorus]
This life goes passing you by
It might go fast if you lie
You go and you live then you die...

    O-oh-oh-ohh

If life goes passing you by
    Don't cry
    If you breaking the rules
    Making your moves
    Paying your dues...
    Chasing the cool

He begged for some change to get him on a train
"Damn that nigga stank", is what they complained
Tried to light the blunt but it burst into flames
Caught the reflection in the window of what he became
    A long look... Wasn't shook, wasn't ashamed
Matter fact only thing on his brain was brains.. yeah
And getting back in his lane, doing his thang
First he had to find something to slang
    Next stop was his block
    It had the same cops
Walked right past the same spot where he was shot
Shocked that some lil' niggas tried to sell him rocks
It just felt weird being on the opposite
They figured that he wasn't from there
so they pulled out and robbed him
with the same gun they shot him with
Put it to his head and said "You scared ain't ya?"
He said: "Hustler for death. No heaven for a gangsta."

On the contrary i can believe this comes straight off the top

    T.I. Big Shit Poppin' Lyrics

    [Verse 1]
Now do it to the maximum, take it why you askin' em
Don't listen to them suckas when they say you too irrational
See, I said I'm a "King" and them lames started laughin' and
Same suckers now want the King on a track with 'em
I composed several classicals, you know like "Top Back"
"Dope Boy", "Bring 'Em Out", and "What You Know" about that
Now they ask how I talk, what you know about that?
Dominated '06, now I'm goin' right back
See me reign hell, at a show just like that
Even Denzel say, "Damn, I ain't know it like that"
Nigga yeah, still Bankhead, you can tell
Ain't nothin' changed but the name on the mail
I still kick in doors with them thangs in the air
Up in Benihana's, see me slang in the chair
will slang 'caine, no such thing as a jail
Say you need a hundred squares? It just came off the scale

    [Verse 2]
Now do it like a ball player
    When you see me ballin'
    Stacks tall as ball players
From the stage to the air
Whether in Miami, Cincinnati, or in Riverdale
Arizona, California, make it rain anywhere
Pullin' out that pistol nigga, who you think you finna scare?
Twenty rounds of missiles'll have you pissin' in your underwear
I tote a pair of 40 cal so you better tone it down
Or I suggest you just prepare yourself for when it goin' down
A-Town, West Side, Club Crucial catch me
Right up at the top where Big Kuntry, Dro, and Mack be
Jackers lyin, say they caught me slippin', how could that be?
I'm something like a stalker, I be e'rywhere the strap be
The trap be, jumpin' with them hundred dollar slabs
If I want it nigga, I could get a hundred on the tab
Sell 'em all, double down, nigga do the math
Think I won't pull up in something with 200 on the dash?

    [Verse 3]
Now I do it like I wanna do it and do that shit in front of you
Real nigga vision pimpin', I ain't seein' none of you
I do it for my nigga Phil's daughter and his mama too
I do it for my oldest sons and their grandmama too
Do it for my daughters and my youngest son mama who
Go buy what she want because she know it ain't a problem to
You do something to them and to you I'll bring the trouble to
You do it for a day or so, we do it for a month or two
I do it for my partners, go make sure them niggas stuntin' too
We do it with them choppers, ain't no problem, where you runnin' to?
We do it for the block, that why ain't nobody stoppin' me
I do it for my pop and my cousins too, they watchin' me
I did it nonstop, now see how these niggas copy me
I made it from the bottom to the top where I oughta be
Who do it did good and do it diffrent
No matter what I do you know I do it to death

    riiiiigggggghhhhht....

Seriously i've been freestyling with my brother since i was little i can honestly say that once you get at home with your flow, delivery, breath control and if you're a modestly intelligent person you can come off the dome with EASE esp. if your lyrics are mostlty formulaic in style, that shit is so damn easy man...  like if you're a rapper with a style thats lets say rhyming the last 5 syllables of every half a bar that shit is SO DAMN EASY to not have to write your shit down if you're just saying "normal everyday shit"...  i dont notice T.I. doing a lot of "story-telling rap"  so i can believe he doesnt write his shit down...

I think people confuse not writing something down, with freestyling. Just because you dont physically write the rap down, doesnt mean you spit off the top. I Seldomly write raps on paper, you just memorize them. Mainly because i lose shit to often, and it kinda forces you to memorize them. Also, you can spit in the booth holding a note pad, it comes off whack or without feeling mostly. Some will freestyle a track, when they mess up, the rewind the track and get punched in. You still off the dome, just not all the way through with out mistakes. Basically there are so many ways people record, when people hear "i dont write raps down" they automatically assume they "freestyle" everything

Ya'll getting crazy with all this off the top of the dome and shit. When Jay-Z says that he steps in the booth and does shit in one take he means he's already got the song done in his head. He just steps in the booth and does the whole song in one shot. Event then he still got ad libs and shit to do. So he has to go back in and put the finishing touches on the song. I think the whole idea about people doing songs off the top of the dome is just fans being naive (if i spelled it right). And then, a freestyle usually consists of a verse already written or whatever the case might be that someone just spits over any beat that someone put for them. Some of ya'll still need Rap 101 classses. But most of ya'll i'm pretty sure knew all this. So that's why i wonder why people talk about all this like its one of life's great mysteries.

Forgot to add...Yes, some do spit off the top of the dome. But that's usually where the best lines come out from. Even then you still gotta polish it up. You can clearly tell when someone is spitting off the top, cause u can almost notice them looking for the next punchline while there rhyming. But not too many people are good to the point where they can do this and it comes out smooth.

Jay V.S. DMX - That's some really, really, really old news right there.  Folks were talkin' bout that battle 10 years ago and ish...real talk.  10 years ago!  Man....

All the talk about Frank Lucas...PLEASE stop it.  It sounds so DUMB when people who weren't even ALIVE back then comment on that dude.  Real Gangstas move in silence anyhow, so why WOULD people hear about him the way they heard about Nicky Barnes.  Frank was always talkin' bout how loud he was anyways.  The government went after this dude, so you already KNOW he was obviously pushing some major weight.  It's HIS story anyhow, so who are we to QUESTION it?  It ain't like the dude has been GLORIFYING what he did...he's remorseful, so chill out with all the hate on how dude wasn't that big, etc, etc...Did he snitch?  In OUR definition of it, he definitely did.  But half these cats turn informant when they go down anyways, with the exception of those who CAN'T cop a plea deal.

Don't believe the hype folks.  Real gangsters only end up in JAIL, 6ft deep, or in Police Protection.  And I ain't talkin' bout Gangbangers...I'm talkin' bout the fellas pushin' major weight...period.

Get outta here with all that...Truth is...most of these cats aren't willing to take the life they lead...with all the pains in it...

Then there are people that have to be punched in because they cant keep their own flow right so the producer creates the flow for them and they memorize it later.
I dont really give a fuck what you do its all music. Its lame to even care if they wrote it down or not. If you cant memorize your shit you shouldnt be holding a Mic in the first place.

In other notes, Jay officially announced Jadakiss as the newest member of the Roc.  Kiss appeared upset with Green Lantern because the only song he had on was Benjimans, which he didn't want to perform, and The Champ, which he didn't remember the words to.  After the awkward back and forth with Green Lantern, Kiss just said throw Roc Boys on, which Jay previously interupted to bring him out.  In defense of Kiss, he seemed High as a kite.  Great show all around though.  Can't wait to hear what Kiss has in plan for his next album ,and the Lox.

people confuse freestyling with actually writing raps, even if its not written on paper. if someone has a decent memory, then writing raps in ur head is possible. i believe t.i doesn't write raps down(being that he really isn't the most lyrical dude).i used to think it was crazy when jay kept repping about not writing raps down so i tried it. i don't even consider myself a rapper, but when i do make up raps, i dont write shit down. rather it is 16 bars or 48 bars. i aint write a rap down in over a year. its just about practicing it. the more u do something, the better u get at it. the only downside to not physically writing down raps is that u might forget a lot of shit. but if its that good, u wouldn't forget it in the first place.

If you say something in the public and someone can hear it it is subject to OPINION by the person who heard it...

With that being said if you OK a movie about your life and dope dealing days, of course that will be subject to opinion...

If Frank Lucas said he sold all this and all that and ok'd the movie...

Somebody has the right to state their opinion or dispute his claim...

Rather its a rapper talking bout dope, an actor talking bout how many women they slept with, or an athlete talking bout how many points he scored it can all be a lie or the truth...

if you can prove it, prove it... if not and you have an opinion state it, if its put out there for the public to see and hear...
State your opinion to the public to see and hear...

If its told to you in confidentiality state your opinion to that one person...

If you dont want an opinion stated keep your bulls*** to yourself...

I dont see the point of not writing down your lyrics. Biggie also didnt write down allot of his lyrics which is where Jay Z got it from and Ja Rule got it from Jay Z. The difference is Jay Z talks about it I dont recall Biggie talking about it at all but I could be wrong. Writing raps is still writing and I think you take away from your thoughts and the craft when you dont write down your lyrics.  Especially the people that do it cause their favorite rapper says he does it.
Freestyles in the booth are 1 thing even getting some lines together which I do all the time and record them into a voice recorder. Its all about preference but I think writing the whole song in your head and spitting it and not giving it the polish it needs does not work or the quality is diminished. Funny how allot of young rappers are proclaiming they dont need the pen and paper and their raps sound like they need a co-writer.

Females of AHH please put you info in on this one too.

So I was speaking with this girl that ain't black but dates nuffin but brovas.

Okay so she has had nuttin but bad luck with dudes and she figures it's cuzz she dates brovas.

She and her friends have this wild idea that brovas are more prone to be playa's and lack the ability to be monogamous.

So I immediately took offense to that and said that all men (in gerneral) tend to be like that.
And that it has nothing to do with a mans skin color.

So what does AHH think about this one.

Are black men less monogamous and bigger playa's than any other men out there?

The more interviews Frank Lucas does, the less people will believe his story.

There are a bunch of different options for the head coach, but there are 3 strong possibilities from what I'm hearing:

    Mickey Andrews
    Jimbo Fisher
Rich Rodriguez (head coach at WV)

    @Mush
i gotta say Pac has the best catalogue (pre-death). cause it's like every album he had, shit every song to me, was the shit. i can't think of anything by Pac that gets no play.

as far as his image, i think he was chameleon. he had an excellent ability to adapt to his surroundings. he was a true artist, and he evolved and developed into what he became based upon circumstances specific to his life.

have anybody ever saw "Bastards of the Party?" it's a documentary about the Crips & Bloods. basically on the origins and the evolution gangbangin.

the point was that the Crips and Bloods developed out of the dismantle-ment, if that's a word, of the BPP.

so if u think about Pac's family legacy, it makes sense that as  a member of the next generation, he would be attracted to thug life, gangbangin, etc. and even more so after he got super famous, made some poor decisions, and began to be vilified. not to mention the rage behind his attempted murder.

that's my take on that, my 2 cents.

as for the ARE BLACK MEN PLAYAS...
i think like you said...its a MALE thing but it just so happens prolly more of us make up the MALE PLAYA fold than other races. I think it basically stems from home...i mean if your pops wasnt around and you have no strong men...and the men in your life are rap niggas who have no respect for women, no respect for hardwork only quick bucks,...then the women you see are gettin naked and dancin and not resepectin themselves...how would i learn to treat you right? when the women say niggas aint shit...and men sayin bitches aint shit youre gonna subconsiously have your guard up for that bitch/ nigga that aint shit... I think we in the black community have SERIOUS trust issues...like SERIOUS. We scared to let people in...we scared to be vulnerable and being a player is just a false sense of security. some of our paranoias are justified but it trickles down to everything else. We prolly playas bcz its easy to do that...but ultimately, some were never taught or shown how to be respectful in a relationship. You learn what you see...my parents stayed together and my Dad instilled the importance of treating women right..and my mom made it an even bigger point than he did. Im not gonna raise no man to disrespect women...so in seeing that, as i got older i wanted the family structure...i wanted the female that was down for me bcz i seen 1st hands the benefits of the "team"....i meannnn not to say i didnt cheat or be a playa at times, but thats the male part...nothing to do with being black...but my intentions were never disrespectful, more just learning who a im an what i wanted from a woman...

Also yall women can help yourselves...if i tell you im taken...leave me alone lol....dont be like, well do she do this do she do that are you happy???...u make it hard for me bcz my maleness is weak lol...then im a playa again lol

A real freestyler is Lil Flip, Lil Keke, Z-Ro, HAWK, TUM TUM, and really just boys from Texas that i know fa sho they'll freestyle a tracc, u can tell its freestyle because you can hear the difference in how they come, they fucc the words up sometimes, and they stay changin tempo. It won't even be a stacc on traxx when boys down here say its a freestyle. Man theze wacc ass freestyle battles have fucc'd up people's mentallity on freestyles, and what's a real one. who are u?

    @518p
    whatitbelike?!?!?!??!?!?

okay so to answer ur question...wait b4 i do, didn't u say u wasn't tryna get it fired up today?

that is a loaded asssssssssss question!

aight, well my 1st point is that if u, as a woman, have only ever dated Black men, then ur biased and how can u argue that they are less monogamous than any other? u ain't had any type of experience with any other men so how could u know how others are in relationships?

well, i'm biased. i don't really know how men of different races are. but my instincts tell me that all men are the same with that shit. maybe they go about it differently based on culture. but basically the same, i think.

however, i have to say that i haven't really dated or been in hella relationships either to really know how men of any race really get down. but i have been a witness to so much male-female drama that it's actually kinda embarassing.

like seriously, you know how women can get together and chop up their friends to other friends who don't know the 1st friends?

well i avoid doing that anymore cause whenever i tell the stories of my circle/family male-female drama to other friends. i feel like a fucking idiot, cause it's like i can't actually know grown men and women that fucking retarded! so i don't even speak on that ignorant ass shit no more. like fucking the Ricki Lake show or some shit.

anyway back to the point, i have heard the argument that Black men were conditioned during slavery into being the "Buck." and so they are incapable of being faithful to one woman. this is coming from people that agree with what ur friend was saying.

but i actually don't know how i feel about that. cause i do believe that their has definitely been long lasting implications from slavery that manifest today. i just don't think that is really one of them.

***side note: my girl just wrote her Master's Thesis on Post-Traumatic Slavery Syndrome. but i haven't got a chance to read it yet. i think i just got inspired!

but i think the socialization process in the hood definitely reinforces pimpin and player-ism. so i think alot of men wind up believing that to be a man u gotta fuck as many women as possible and never totally commit urself to a woman. a kind of take more than u give mentality, at least majority of the men i know.

but i know of at least one Black man that's faithful. that's all i really can say, that tells me that it is a personal choice. and he wasn't always a "good man," so to speak.

i think men will only do what u allow them to do to u. if u won't tolerate mistreatment, u will find one that will treat u the way u want. women gotta demand respect. and if he won't give it, then move on. and that's with any man, any race.

relationships are a game of power struggles. every interaction that takes place effect the balance.

As far as the Nas video...I didn't think it was that bad. Game def needs to shave that shit off his face though fareal! And that check looked nothing like Olivia IMO.

Jay and DMX battle is old as hell...y talk about it now?

Sharon Jones song is tight but I don't think Amy W. sounds like her though.

Is it really possible to get a "bad" shot of Halle? I don't think so at all!

Dude from NY Undercover looks a lot older now..damn. Malik always had my heart anyway! And he was still lookin good the last time I seen him on Girlfriends!

David Banner looks fine as hell in that pic. Why does he look different though? IDK but I never thought he looked THAT good until today.

LOL @ the 9/11 Truthers. I saw that clip weeks ago. I don't watch Bill Maher's show but he sounds like the crazy one to me! Maybe Karrine sucked ALL the brains out!?!

TMZ has learned that just weeks before Donda West died, a plastic surgeon refused to perform procedures on her because of a health condition that could have led to a heart attack.

We've learned Beverly Hills physician, Dr. Andre Aboolian, was set to perform a tummy tuck and breast reduction on Ms. West, but told her she needed to get clearance from an internist whom Dr. Aboolian recommended. We're told West never went to that doctor, and subsequently had the procedures performed -- but not by Dr. Aboolian.

    2. a clerk, scribe, or the like.
    3. a person who commits his or her thoughts, ideas, etc., to writing: an expert letter writer.
    4. (in a piece of writing) the author (used as a circumlocution for “I,” “me,” “my,” etc.): The writer wishes to state….

You see rapping use to be about being a POET a ARTIST but when you spit bullshit out your mouth cause you heard your favorite rapper say he can do it without writing it down thats when it becomes The New Hip Hop. Thats my OPINION but saying I cant do it? Is like me saying you know what you are talking about :>) It is not a "GIFT" it is a technique of writing but you being a "WRITER" im sure you knew that.

Oh yea and you mentioned Kanye so I guess him and rhymefest have a mind meld and write together in their brains? How does that work?

    Jericho Boston Presents

    The Shootout

    Saturday, December 1st - 1-6pm
    Great Hall
    Codman Square, Dorchester

Performance artist, Jihad Abdul-Mumit will present The Shootout, a two-person theater performance and workshop. The Shootout is a two-man dramatization depicting the spiritual and psychological divisions that have historically ripped apart just about every semblance of unity amongst African Americans. The Shootout starts right from the beginning when Africans were snatched so violently and decisively from Mother Africa. The play speaks to the many problems people are confronted with. Among the root causes of violence in oppressed communities are economic exploitation, social underdevelopment and the colonial relationship between the community and those in power. CORI and other draconian laws have been passed to keep people marginalized and disenfranchised, while prison expansion cuts in education continue.

This is a special performance in honor of the International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners.

Community Forum on Sunday, December 2nd - Location TBA
We have invited former political prisoners and leaders from various movements that were targeted in the last few decades for their attempts to create awareness around these issues and bring change. Invited panelists are Pam Africa, Edwin Cortes, Ward Churchill, Ashanti Alston, city councilor Chuck Turner and more.
We invite all the members of the community to come share your thoughts and work together to create solutions.

    on the cheating question..

I think it's more to do with the individuals she deals with. The fact that she happens to fuck with black guys who cheat on her would make her think. Same way if a girl fucks with only latin guys or white guys or asian guys who cheat on her, what else is she supposed to think?

I don't think it has as much to do with getting caught, becaue 99% of the time you end up getting caught. Whether she tells you or not is a whole nother story. I been cheated on a girl and thought I got away with it. We broke up on on friendly terms and then a year later I find out she knew the whole time.

You got deep in your statement about the cheating factors and if ethnicity plays a role in it.

As I stated before I don't think it's the case, but culture may have a minor (if not more) role in it.

If one is raised around a certain environment then he or she may take on some of those teachings.

If you grew up around pimps and ho's then your opinion about relationships could stray from the social norm.

But that is neither a ethnic trait nor a class trait.

I think men tend to want to fuck everything that walks but good man will know how to control himself if need be.

    Can men be faitful?
I've been a "playa" my whole life and countless friends of mine tell me I cant.
But I have had a few girlfriends and I was faithful to them without a hitch.

I look at it this, How would I feel if she did that to me?

    ==================

Like I told BFG, I can and am currently faithful and I aint just saying that cuzz she's in the room lol.
but it is mos def harder for men than women.

If I'm right (BFG) women are more interested in being monogamous.  They have more feeling attached and will only step out if they feel like they aren't getting what they want.

Men on the other hand have been taught to "creep" around since we was lil shorties.  And we in most cases always want to fuck somebody else and it got nothing to do with feelings.

But we have to make a more conscious effort to remain faithful than women do.

That's why women should recognize that and give a faithful dude a little more appreciation for keeping his dick in his pants.
It's not as easy for us women so make sure you give your man what he needs and keep him happy.

It may sound harsh but it's "real talk" lol

i hear u, perception is a big part of it. how a man perceives of his girl/wife plays a big part. as well as how she is perceived by other men. but that is also what is so stupid about it.

a lot of men begin to devalue their chick once they been together for a while. but it's always another man who will think she's a dime and so brand new.

    @BigSlim
co-sign that shit. i don't know too many women who can keep that sort of knowledge to themselves without driving themselves crazy.

but i agree, a woman knows when her man is cheating or not, that is unless she is the denial type of broad. but i would argue that still she knows, just on a subconscious level.

God ain't give women intuition for nothing!

    @Layne90043
that is fa real! desperate ass broads always wanna fuck with a married man.

i believe that comes from tryna to validate themselves in some warped ass way, like "i can have any man i want."

but i think it also comes from the fact that they wanna prove (at least to themselves) that men ain't shit because they don't believe they men can be faithful. they're spiteful.

finally i think a part of that is also related to wanting something they can't truly have. that's serious to some folks, always chasin shit that they can't have, u know the ones that are never satisfied with anything.

I agree with your perspective on cheating, much people make absolute statements like "all black men" and "all white men" but generalization is too broad and incorrect.  It depends on the individual about cheating, environment and social norms/friendship does play a big influence on the cheating factor.  For folks on here to make such interesting statements like, I won't cheat if I was with beyonce, christian milan, kelly rowland (illseed :=) , etc would blantly disregard the person and soley conclude that people cheat only because of the sexual attraction and not taking other factors such as personality, emotions, moral fiber etc.  Don't put people on pedestals because eventually that gets old.  Cheating is subjective and each person is responsible for their own action.

    @mu$h da great

    peace...

what i meant by my statement was this...

the structure of a 106 park battle is severely flawed...since when does a freestyle champ need a week to prepare for his/her next opponent? this allows for less freestyle and more written material to enter the contest...any lunch room, street corner, alley way, or dorm room battle will not have 3 celebrity judges or a screaming crowd of teenagers to cheer them on....

then the actual rules of the battles are corny...any emcee knows that anything goes in a freestyle battle...(real heads know that it's just a battle of words and nothing to get beat down over)

you can't censor a freestyle battle, that's like surfing the net with a 56k modem...your just not getting the whole and INTENDED experience...again, once you start adding rules you start closing the window on how expressive you can be (and to be real, most teenagers are not trying to here that they can't rhyme without cursing) so instead,  they just pre-write some material and fill in the blanks with their challengers name once they get on the show...you can tell when cats have writtens especially when the mess up and restart by saying the SAME LINES AGAIN...

@the relationship question 518 dropped earlier

Imma have to co-sign what BFG and Boss Up said. I've only dated black men so I couldn't tell you about another ethnicity (sp?) dating style. I think the whole player state of mind mentality comes from where you grew up and how you grew up. I grew up watching my dad chase behind a lot of women, and he still does. You would think that once you get a certain age, that shit would stop and you would want to settle down, but as I look at my pops, that shit aint happening. So I look at him, and try my hardest not to end up in a relationship with a man like my dad. Don't get me wrong, I love him and all that good shit, but I refuse to be in a relationship with a man of that stature.

It is hard to be faithful in relationships because temptation is a motherfucker and so is lust. But it can be done. It takes some will power. And There are some guys out there who are willing to be faithful. The few guys I've dated have been so far, (or they hid it very well) but for the most part, I think they've been faithful. Here's my thing, if you know you are going to cheat, why not just end the relationship?

What's funny is that, a lot of these girls know what they getting into when they pick some of these guys. I guess they feel as though they can change them, and sometimes that shit works, but majority of the time it doesn't. They know this is the "playa" type of guy, but yet they still want to get with him, but then get mad when she see him with another women. I know a couple of girls like that now, and, for lack of better words, they are some dumb ass bitches.

@518, Yeah I never been a fan of Nick Cage. It seems like he plays the same type of character in every movie. Like he has no range, some people i.e. Denzel, Don Cheadle, Clooney, make me believe they are the character they are playin. With Cage its like his manneurisms or something that make him just always seem the same. Did you catch that game last night? Fuckin Addai. Cost me a fantasy game with that weak outing. ay, i didn't mean to get deeper than Atlantis. LOL

i just wanted to say i agree with ur statement about men having a harder time not cheating.

i think it is def. a learned behavior for both men and women, based on examples that were set for them.

but biologically, women probably are more emotionally invested in monogamy and want it more. because they don't get why men struggle with it so much.

but then again men sho don't like it when their women cheat tho. that's where sexism comes into play. the double standard and shit.

the bottom line is no one likes to be cheated on. and like i said it's all about power struggles if u ask me.

but i def. agree that women who have a faithful man, should appreciate that shit, cause it is a rarity but not impossible.

i used to be so consumed with the thought of my man cheating cause i don't know any cats that are faithful. so i was mistrustful to say the least.

but as i began to realize that i didn't have to be concerned with that and trust was built, i have to say that i'm not even trippin off that no more.

and now that i'm older i realize just how unrealistic our society is with the expectation of monogamy and traditional marriage. it's like a set up, especially for men.

i totally and completely appreciate having a good man who treats me they way i like, tho i could probably show it more! we been together since i was 16 and he's older than me. so i have grown up hella much over the years.

shit i'm to the point of letting him go get some head or something, just as a reward for giving me the impossible! LMAO

    i'm just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!! just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he'd never bite on that type of shit in the 1st place.

but y'all feel what i'm sayin right?

appreciate a good man when u got one!

Not all women want the relationship to be monogamous. I'll admit, I've been involved with a guy and it was just about the sex for me. I had just got out of a 2 year relationship and wasn't ready to start a new one, but shit I got my needs to. But I told him from the start that I wasn't looking for a man, just friends with benefits :)   Its like, when we together, we together...If i see him in the mall or wherever, with another broad, imma say hey and keep it moving...same thing if he see me with another dude...

This is not always the safest way to go, because sometimes once sex is involved, emotions come with it too. Fortunately for me, I haven't fell for the guy, just his partner in crime...lol

Not saying that I do this, but sometimes I just want to "hit it and quit it" too 518, so in a way, I can understand the male's point of view

Nothing will ever truly replace natural.  I got so much respect for sistas who kep it natural and nurture their original hair rather than nurture the borrowed one.

    'I'm a writer not a biter'
    -Jay Z

This whole not writing down your rhymes argument is getting me heated.  Time for some Hiphop 101 education...

A true 'freestyle' is lyrics off the top of the dome.  See cats like Craig G. in a freestyle battle and then compare that to when he forms a song with a set number of bars and a hook.  They are two totally different styles.  Sure, in a freestyle you often pull in punchlines you've had floating around in your head from before the actual battle but, in a true freestyle, if your lyrics sound written then your opponent will clown you and an educated hiphop crowd will boo you off the stage.  For all the young pups on here, '106 and Park' Freestyle Friday has little or nothing to do with the classic hiphop freestyle battle.

An artist will often come up with something clever during a freestyle or a cypher or a jam session or wildin' out in a recording booth that he didn't even know he was going to spit before he spit it.  He'll then take that hot line or lines or that hot concept or idea and then use it somewhere else or combine it with something else until he eventually forms a complete song.  There are various examples of this but one artist who comes to mind is Eminem who often combines the best verses from freestyles he has done to create a complete song.

All the great hiphop legends when I grew up (the 80s) were basically modern day poets.  People like KRS-ONE, Chuck D, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, etc. etc. all bragged about there rhymebooks and the craft of perfecting their 'poems'.  That is not to say that they couldn't rock a cypher but those were usually 'put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care' rhymes whereas their songs were well crafted poems about things like empowerment and the upliftment of Africa.

The problem I have with artists like Jay Z claiming that they don't write down their lyrics is that they are implying that songs like 'D-evils' is coming off the dome in one take like they are some sort of superhuman robot.  There is no way that a highly constructed song with multi-syllabic rhymes and concepts is coming out in one take.  Bullshit...bullshit...bullshit.

If you watch the documentary about Jay Z and the 'Black Album' there is even proof that backs up my argument.  Clever editing shows Jay Z listening to Timberland's beat for 'Dirt Off My Shoulder' and going 'Eureka!' when he sees Timmy's dance where he sweeps 'dirt' off his shoulder.  Next, it cuts to the booth where Jay Z is rhyming over the beat with the hook 'get that dirt off my shoulder'.  Now listen to the lyrics he spits for a couple of seconds... they are totally different lyrics then the ones that appear on the album.  Obviously, he spent several sessions in the booth before he came up with the completed product.  Did he write down the lyrics?  Maybe not... but if you just keep rhyming lyrics you have already thought of in the past and combine them all together like a giant jigsaw puzzle then what the hell is the difference?

Perhaps if Jay Z 'wrote' more of his lyrics on paper, then he wouldn't be liberally 'borrowing' so many lyrics that he heard from other emcees.

Hiphop 102...listen to what Rakim says about biters on 'I Ain't No Joke'...

@518p-I think its about a state of mind for any race of men~ If you are a man of your word and u say ull be faithful then stick to ur word. If you are flat out and say to a woman I dont want to be in a relationship and I have many lady friends, than to me that's cool! At least ur giving the women an opportunity to make her own choice w/ what information you have given her. But to mislead her and hurt her is dead wrong! Men dont know everything there is to know about a woman, but one thing is for sure is that, they know we are emotional. So if u know a woman is feeling you and ur in a so called monogams relationship w/ her why play w/ her emotions? Why make a move  on that lustful emotion(ur other head) and take the chance of your girl finding out? It's not just the emotional state of a woman when she finds out ur cheating, but what if u cheat only once w/ this so called BAD BITCH and u bring ur girl something home? Remember ladies and gentlemen, there are STDs out there that u can get w/ w/o protection! Lets not forget that you can make a mistake and produce a child along the way! Mistake can happen. Aside from that I just think its all about the man's state of mind and if he is a true man of his word!

Yes women cheat, but the same thing goes w/ women! Im not one sided, whether ur black white, purple, blue, women man or a shim I dont agree w/ a person being disloyal to another person~ U know people get killed everyday over cheating! U have to be careful either way~

That song w/ Game and Nas is one of my favorites, the video could have been way better! I think its not to late to come out w/ a video for that song!

Thanks for the Frank Lucas interview with Miss Jones vid.

I respect the fact that he was man enough to tell these kids in the end to go to college.

When a man who has done something Im trying to do tells me after its all said and done "Dont do it!".  Aint no clearer warning than that.

To all the kids and young adults that think this shit is fun and a game,  the message dont get no clearer than that!  You got it straight from the horses mouth.
