While I disagree with Bush's decision to commute Libby's sentence, it is well within his rights, and purely a judgment call. Many presidents have issued pardons or commutations to people who we may feel do not deserve them (e.g. Clinton's pardon of Mark Rich or McDougal).

MY beef with the President is the justification he used. He said the sentence given Libby (30 months, I think) was excessive for the crime. I would point out to Mr Bush that 30 months is on the low end of the spectrum of sentencing guidelines for obstruction of justice, the crime of which Libby was convicted.

So yeah, he had every right to do it, but he should not insult our intelligence with ridiculous excuses like that.

As to the bigger issue at play, about how they revealed the identity of a CIA agent just to defend their bogus war justifications, all I can do is shake my head. It is reprehensible in the extreme. Nobody's ever going to do time for putting that woman's life in danger, and compromising our intel services. Sad.

Dick Cheney is gangsta. No way he would let Bush allow his boy Scooter to do time.

I don't know the whole story behind the confrontation with T.I. and Chaka, but I wish they could have handled it in a civil manner. Maybe he deserved to get smacked, I don't know.
