I think they be tried for attempted murder because its no telling what they what have did to her had someone not alerted the authorities. the jena six and many others throughout history are clearly examples that we live in two different americas. we have two law systems one for whites ( as well as people who are considered white jews, italians, etc.) and a system for minorities which includes but is definitely not limited to blacks, mexicans, puerto ricans etc. (for the most part anybody that could not be considered white). its so crazy because after 911 middle eastern people in the united states were being looked at with the same daunting eye that other minorities have been looked at with for the past three centuries. I know we come a long way but if things have "gotten so much better" why are we blaintently being treated like second class citizens? the other day I was reading the newest issue of the source with chamilionaire on the front & there was an article about a young man who is being sentenced to I believe ten years for rape. he was seventeen & the female who was involved was fifteenven at the time the events occured, even though the sex was consensual they have still charged him with rape. I don't have the magazine & I can't remember my mans name but anybody who has read this article please post his name with the information for his fund or a link where people can read about it for themselves.

Genarlow Wilson sits in prison despite being a good son, a good athlete and high school student with a 3.2 GPA. He never had any criminal trouble. On the day he was to sit for the SAT, at seventeen years old, his life changed forever. He was arrested. In Douglas County he was accused of inappropriate sexual acts at a News Year’s Eve party. A jury acquitted him of the allegation of Rape but convicted him of Aggravated Child Molestation for a voluntary act of oral sex with another teenager. He was 17, and she was 15.

Along with the label “child molester” which will require him throughout his life to be on a sexual offender registry, Genarlow received a sentence of eleven years — a mandatory 10 years in prison and 1 year on probation.

On July 1st, the new Romeo and Juliet law went into effect in Georgia for any other teen that engages in consensual sexual acts. That change in the law means that no teen prosecuted for consensual oral sex could receive more than a 12 months sentence or be required to register as a sex offender.

Had this law been in effect when Genarlow Wilson was arrested, or had been done after the Marcus Dixon case, Genarlow would not now be in jail.

Genarlow and his mother are overjoyed that no one else in Georgia will have to know their pain. In the meantime, however, the legal fight goes on for Genarlow Wilson.

Genarlow has been incarcerated since February 25, 2005.

i woke up to my alarm set to KMEL (Bay Area radio station) and one of our most poppin-est DJs, Chuy, was reporting that shit hella seriously. i immediately knew something major was jumpin cause he ain't a real serious cat. turned on CNN, i think, and couldn't believe my eyes. i was truly terrified because it as so surreal and abnormal. plus i didn't know what else to expect. like i said in another post, we are not accustomed to real-life extreme trauma and violence, like other places in the world.

i kept my son home from school and picked up my nephew from his school and we went home and stayed home. then i remember after those feelings passed, i quickly became mistrustful of Bush...i think i watched all that coverage for like 2-3 days tops and had to let it go. they was tryna over-saturate our asses with that shit, str8 manipulation through use of the media. and look where we at with the shit now.

Two Teens Held In Gang-Rape Of Mother, Torture Of Son

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Two teenagers have been arrested on charges that they gang-raped a mother and forced her to have sex with her 12-year-old son.

Authorities said 14-year-old Avion Lawson and 16-year-old Nathan Walker are being charged as adults with armed sexual battery by multiple perpetrators, sexual performance by a child, armed home invasion and aggravated battery.

Lawson was arrested Tuesday after police said they matched DNA evidence found on a condom in the victim's home to the teen.

Walker was taken into custody Thursday after police said they found the teen's left palm print inside the victim's apartment.

Both teens are being held in the Palm Beach County Jail without bail.

Authorities said the boys were among a group of about 10 suspects who forced their way into the woman's Dunbar Village home on the night of June 18.

According to police reports, a young man tricked the victim into opening the door of her home after he told her that the tires on his vehicle were flat.

Police said the woman and her son were then ambushed by three masked teens carrying weapons, who pushed the two back into the home.

Investigators said seven other teens entered the home and demanded money while separating the two victims into different bedrooms.

According to police reports, the mother was then raped and beaten by all 10 teens.

Police said the victim's preteen son had a plate smashed over his head and numerous household liquids poured into his eyes. Investigators said the boy was also forced at gunpoint to participate in the sexual assault.

The invaders eventually fled the scene after more than 20 minutes inside of the victim's home, police told WPBF-TV.

Following the attack, police said the woman and her son walked a mile to the hospital.

Police told WPBF-TV they are still searching for as many as eight more invaders in the case, all of whom they said they believe to be between 14 and 18 years old.

LOGAN, W.Va. - A woman was sexually abused, beaten and humiliated while being held captive in a home for at least a week, sheriff's officials said Monday after making six arrests and calling the FBI to investigate it as a possible hate crime.

Those arrested, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, are white. The victim, a Charleston woman who was being treated at a hospital Monday, is black.

"The things that were done to this woman are just indescribable," Logan County sheriff's Sgt. Sonya Porter said.

Deputies found the 23-year-old victim Saturday after going to the home in Big Creek, about 35 miles southwest of Charleston, to investigate an anonymous tip. One of the suspects, Frankie Brewster, was sitting on the front porch and told deputies she was alone, but moments later the victim limped toward the door, her arms outstretched, saying "help me," the sheriff's department said in a news release.

Besides being sexually assaulted, the victim was stabbed four times in the left leg and beaten, Porter said. Both of her eyes were black and blue. Deputies said the woman's wounds were inflicted at least a week ago.

During her capture, the victim was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from the toilet, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court. The woman also was choked with a cable cord and her hair was cut, it alleges.

One of those arrested, Karen Burton, is accused of cutting the woman's ankle with a knife. She used the N-word in telling the woman she was victimized because she is black, according to the criminal complaint.

Deputies say the woman was also doused with hot water while being sexually assaulted.

"We have called the feds," Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess with the Logan County Sheriff's Department said Monday. "They may pick this up as a hate crime."

A call seeking comment from the FBI was not immediately returned Monday.

Connection to suspects unknown
The six suspects were arrested Saturday and Sunday. Deputies were still trying to determine whether the victim knew her assailants and how she came to be at Brewster's home, Porter said.

Frankie Brewster, 49, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and giving false information during a felony investigation. Deputies said she was the woman on the porch.

Her son, Bobby R. Brewster, 24, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and assault during the commission of a felony.

Burton, 46, of Chapmanville, is charged with malicious wounding, battery and assault during the commission of a felony.

Her daughter Alisha Burton, 23, of Chapmanville, and George A. Messer, 27, of Chapmanville, are charged with assault during the commission of a felony and battery.

Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, is charged with sexual assault and malicious wounding.

All six were held Monday in lieu of $100,000 bond each, and all have asked for court-appointed public defenders.

So I didn't even hear about it until after the 2nd tower got hit walking in to my Media Production class and it was all over the TVs..As I walked in the teacher had NPR on the radio, and a guy was reporting from the pentagon that they were telling everyone to evacuate. He was saying that they've cleared out all the important people before they even made the announcement, and then he went silent and 20 seconds later they announced on TV the pentagon got hit.

I swear, Tuesdays in the fall, are boring as fuck. I'm watching the September 11 live coverage on MSNBC and i still can't believe that shit happened like it did. I remember like it was yesterday. I was a freshman in high school and i was in my computer class, which my teacher wasn't in the room at the time. All of a sudden, the teacher runs into the room, immediately turns on the t.v, and i see a building in smoke and flames. We (classmates) thought it was just a freak accident where the pilot lost control, but when we saw the second plane crash into the other building, something wasn't right.

The most disturbing part of that day was seeing people, who where in the world trade center 20 to 30 stories up, jumping out of the buildings. No one and i'm mean no one should die the way those people died on that day. I'm not going to lie, but i wanted to go overseas and kill anybody that looked like the terrorists, too.

to answer ur question, i, personally, think that's bullshit. it really shouldn't matter what a person's religion is in order to be president, to me. but i am biased towards Islam anyway. so i know most people would probably disagree, especially with all the stigma attached to Islam at this point. but in reality JFK was the only president in American history that wasn't a Protestant (if i'm not mistaken), he was a Catholic. just him, despite the fact that we have separation of church & state in the U.S. okay...i hadn't really thought about that with Obama. i haven't even considered his religion. but that may really be an issue to alot of folks.

Exactly 30 years to the day, Black Consciousness Movement leader Steve Biko died in the hands of the notorious security branch.

Those responsible for his death were all refused amnesty by the TRC.

Biko was killed because he was an antithesis of what apartheid stood for.

He advocated black pride when the apartheid system wanted to mentally enslave black people. He called for black unity at a time when the oppressed were being deliberately fragmented through the policy of divide and rule.

Biko called on black people to take their destiny into their own hands when the apartheid system wanted them to believe that they were nothing without white people. He was young — 30 years old — articulate, educated and a black man who dared to talk about African humanism when the apartheid state believed in a God-given right to rule over savages.

Nelson Mandela, delivering the 5th Steve Biko Memorial Lecture in 2004, characterised Biko’s Black Consciousness as “an intervention that came at a time when the political pulse of our people had been rendered faint by banning, imprisonment, exile, murder and banishment”.

The question that should occupy African people in general and blacks in particular — 13 years into South Africa’s democracy — is whether we have overcome what Biko in his essay, We Blacks, called the side-effects of apartheid and the emptying of the native’s brain of all form and content.

And the answer to this question has to be a definite no.

If apartheid and Bantu Education were concerned with emptying the native’s brain of all form and content, then it should follow that the democratic government’s Outcomes-based education should seek to reverse this.

Our education system should concern itself with the human and spiritual side of development, pumping life back into black people’s empty shells; to infuse them with pride and dignity.

These were Biko’s thoughts written between 1969 and 1972 and they are as relevant today as they were then.

We need not be apologetic and ashamed of the psychological effects that the apartheid system had on us and what we would inadvertently, consciously or unconsciously, pass to our children.

In this chapter of his seminal collection of essays, I Write What I Like, Biko is occupied with a question: “What makes the black man fail to tick? Is he convinced of his own accord of his inabilities? Does he lack in the genetic make-up that rare quality that makes man willing to die for the realisation of his aspirations? Or is he simply a defeated person?

“The answer to this is not a clear-cut one. It is, however, nearer to the last suggestion than anything else. The logic behind white domination is to prepare the black man for the subservient role in this country.

“To a large extent the evil-doers have succeeded in producing at the end of their machine a kind of black man who is man only in form. This is the extent to which the process of dehumanisation has advanced.

“The type of black man we have today has lost his manhood. Reduced to an obliging shell.

“All in all the black man has become a shell, a shadow of a man, completely defeated, drowning in his own misery, a slave, an ox bearing the yoke of oppression with sheepish timidity.

“This is the first truth, bitter as it may seem, that we have to acknowledge before we can start on any programme designed to change the status quo.

Biko wrote: “It becomes more necessary to see the truth as it is if you realise that the only vehicle for change are these people who have lost their personality.”

Biko belongs to a class of Africans leaders like Patrice Lumumba, who were ahead of their times. They are more relevant for Africans now than ever before.

Thanks for the article on Tupac. Its always good to get more insight on the death row era. Gives better perspective as to what was really going down. One thing that I was really hung up on in the article was the talk about the fear of the threat that "gangsta rap" was going to influence mainstream america. They talked about middle class white males being the primary consumers of rap music. I think that right there pretty much gives us our answers as to why the music has gotten so bubble gummy...

Think people...If 70% of the consumers of rap music are young white males. And these young white males' fathers are the leaders of America in every aspect (from the record labels to congress), why wouldnt they devise a plan to water hiphop down? I mean think of how powerful and influential this music has become. It has taking the world by storm. Has more of an impact than granting freedom to the slaves and giving them the right to vote. Why wouldnt they feel threatened? Nothing more threatening (absolutely nothing) than unity amongst the Black Peoples. WE HAVE BEEN BAMBOOZLED once again folks. Heart taken right out of the rib cage and replaced with hush money (with 50 cent being our spokes person). But we cant be mad at them. They didnt snag us on a boat and force us to denounce our souls like before. They just asked kindly (good ole democratic persuasion) for our souls and compensated us with that thing that ni@@as love so much. That $$$$. Ni@@as dont want to control the money, they just want they piece. And since control of the $$$ is still in the hands of the power that be (hasn't changed a bit since the inception of America), they are willing to negotiate. They want that essence...that thing that makes black people rise up in the face of all adversity. The thing that keeps the african people, whom are faced with the most impoverished and traumatic situations in the world, with smiles on their faces. And they are willing to give a few bread crumbs off of the loaf in exchange. WE ARE LOSING (our souls, dignity, respect, ambition, will to unite, purpose, etc.)!

With that said...all my real people who got love for the culture no matter what race you a part of: Pump your fist in disgust! Let them know through your actions that you are not convinced!
