Bay Area rapper Spice 1 is currently recovering in an East Bay hospital after being shot early Monday morning (December 3) in front of his parents' Hayward, California home (see "Bay Area Rapper Spice 1 Shot, In Critical Condition").

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the rapper's family revealed that he suffered a collapsed lung due to a shot in the chest.

"He's in pain, but otherwise he's coming along really well," his mother, Jean Green-Craven, 57, told the paper on Thursday (December 6). "He's a very lucky young man."

His family revealed that Spice 1 (real name: Robert L. Green, Jr.) told them that he was sitting in his Cadillac Escalade outside their home, listening to music and talking to his girlfriend on the phone when he noticed that someone had walked up to the passenger side of the vehicle and tried to "jimmy" the door.

Spice then demanded to know who it was right before being shot.

According to the rapper's step father, 57-year-old Jerry Craven, it's possible that someone was trying to steal the car not knowing his stepson was inside, due to the vehicle's dark tinted windows.

So far, no motive for the shooting has been established and no arrests have been made, Police Lt. Reid Lindblom told the paper.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - People who eat a lot of red meat and processed meats have a higher risk of several types of cancer, including lung cancer and colorectal cancer, U.S. researchers reported on Monday.

The work is the first big study to show a link between meat and lung cancer. It also shows that people who eat a lot of meat have a higher risk of liver and esophageal cancer and that men raise their risk of pancreatic cancer by eating red meat.

"A decrease in the consumption of red and processed meat could reduce the incidence of cancer at multiple sites," Dr. Amanda Cross and colleagues at the U.S. National Cancer Institute wrote in their report, published in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS Medicine.

The researchers studied 500,000 people aged 50 to 71 who took part in a diet and health study done in conjunction with the AARP, formerly the American Association for Retired Persons.

After eight years, 53,396 cases of cancer were diagnosed.

"Statistically significant elevated risks (ranging from 20 percent to 60 percent) were evident for esophageal, colorectal, liver, and lung cancer, comparing individuals in the highest with those in the lowest quintile of red meat intake," the researchers wrote.

The people in the top 20 percent of eating processed meat had a 20 percent higher risk of colorectal cancer -- mostly rectal cancer -- and a 16 percent higher risk for lung cancer.

"Furthermore, red meat intake was associated with an elevated risk for cancers of the esophagus and liver," the researchers wrote.

These differences held even when smoking was accounted for.

"Red meat intake was not associated with gastric or bladder cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, or melanoma," added the researchers, whose study is freely available on the Internet at http://medicine.plosjournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-document& doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.0040325.

Red meat was defined as all types of beef, pork and lamb. Processed meat included bacon, red meat sausage, poultry sausage, luncheon meats, cold cuts, ham and most types of hot dogs including turkey dogs.

Meats can cause cancer by several routes, the researchers noted. "For example, they are both sources of saturated fat and iron, which have independently been associated with carcinogenesis," the researchers wrote.

Meat is also a source of several chemicals known to cause DNA mutations, including N-nitroso compounds (NOCs), heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Jeanine Genkinger of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and Anita Koushik of the University of Montreal said the findings fit in with other research.

"Meat consumption in relation to cancer risk has been reported in over a hundred epidemiological studies from many countries with diverse diets," they wrote in a commentary.

Hope the Christmas season is treatin' everyone well. I put a bunch of shoeboxes of toys together, but didn't get them out in time to get overseas, so I guess I'm stocked up for next year. My lady and I have really been trying to get some love out there this year. She's planning on doin' some singing at senior citizens centers, which is cool, but I had heard that almost all of the shoeboxes that get sent out for kids in Africa are all for girls. I did up five for boys with toy cars and puzzles, stuffed animals and all kinds of stuff. We don't have any kids, so it was fun to go out and buy a bunch of cool toys. Damn, kids got it good though. But our Transformers were better.

these would all be things the other parties have no way of knowing.

then the group tries to determine which things are true and which one is the lie, one by one.

then the person reveals what was true and what was a lie.

then on to the next person.

obviously, each person is trying to make it difficult for people to really know which is which.

the point is to promote cohesion and bonding, loosen strangers up when they have to interact with one another.

it's usually pretty funny tho.

Anybody else out there doin' something for the widows and the fatherless this year? I'm not big on big charities, so I'm always interested in inventive ways to do some good. All I have to do is look out my window to see the need, but sometimes it's hard to help. Alot of people are too proud to admit they can't buy food or toys at Christmas. Admitting you can't provide for your children has gotta be hard.

I got a question for y'all because it's a lot of people with opinions and shit about Vick..Is it as big of a crime to fight dog's that are vicious and aggressive by nature as it is to destroy over 27,000 different species a year? No, It's just something to give people to talk about..I wish people would wake up and realize that while they got you thinking about all of this bullshit trials you won't be paying attention to the elections, cover-ups, injustices and other corruption that's being done within this country..At the end of the day the same people that secretly control this country also have the judicial system in their back pocket..The Executive and Judicial system are both on the same team so why wouldn't one scratch the other's back? So that makes it 2(Executive and Judiciary) on 1 ( Legislative)..Well really half against 2 and a half because we only got the Democrats and that's if we chose to count them..We are going around spreading Democracy (government by the people; especially : rule of the majority b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people ) when we don't have one..

I think Mike Vick got hung out to dry by his friends, lawyers and his fans. If you look at the kind of support that some people have it's drastically unfair. With the right lawyers and the right connections you can get away with murder, but I think Mike Vick didn't have either. He's young and rich, but he obviously couldn't put up the kind of defence OJ did, or any of these celebrities or white collar criminals that get bullshit sentences for doing shit that would get regular people 10 years.
At least Mike Vick had the balls to admit he did something wrong and took his punishment for it like a man.

Maybe got suspended for a few games or parole.

By apologizing his mea culpa would draw people to his side espcially his fans.

By paying off Peta, if they accepted they couldn't protest him.

It wouln've been sweep away and he could've been playing ball and Petrino wouldn't have resigned.

People that know do these things to avoid problems...it's the payoff, sometimes its the smart thing to do.

if you read this, partna be safe. I know you takin care of business, and you know that I know about that disaster. Hurricane Charley came straight through the hometown and left everything tore up. We were under Marshall Law for 2 months, and there was a city wide curfew of 8pm, 7 days a week.

Mayne, I started my first official day of training down at the hospital today workin as a transporter (taking people from their rooms to get x rays done, stuff like that)

and I gotta say, they got me wanting to cut my feet off. My 'dogs' are killin me. They put me training with this girl who was walking at a world record pace for 8 hours straight. But she was diggin the kid. So it's not all bad, plus I'm gettin paid. And helping people. I'm not performing the procedures or anything but I try to make a little small talk with all the patients, try to keep it normal with 'em. I had a few people tell me today that they appreciate that, and that most of the time they just get pushed around like they're a corpse. So it brought somethin like a smile to my face. And that also didn't hurt with the girl who was training me.

But yo that Beanie Sigel CD is tight work. I haven't had a chance to listen to the Wu, yet. I'm gonna buy that one without downloading first. I downloaded the Beanie, and it's worth buying so I'ma go support the cause.

It makes me feel good when I can help someone out! Im no expert and I don't have a degree, but I have experience and I have a heart! That should count for something! The ad I saw was in a local newspaper and it stated if u were a former foster child(which I was, from 13-21 when I was signed out b/c I was @ the legal age of when u get thrown out)! I say thrown out, b/c that's what they do! THey throw your ass to the wolves, and if your strong you will survive, if your weak and have no guidance, your going to be very lost! AFter about 3 or 4 years after I was out of care, I learned that they are suppose to do some kind of after care services for you! At least until you are 23~ Got damn shame, but I can relate to those children. SO Im going to find away to become a part of this program! Wish me luck, lol!

I'm w/ u on the aftercare services for former foster care youth, I aint nuthin but 4 and a half years outta that system, so I feel it. I definitely went back and gave back and still do to this day. There's a lotta scholarships and financial aid available for ppl who were wards of the court until their 18th bday, far as college, there's a lotta dough out there for those who can use their disadvantage to their advantage!! Feel me? But that's dope you tryna go give back, that's what they/we need.
