but boom about two weeks ago I was down there to go see my korean cologne connect.

and they kinda transformin downtown into something like artsy type of deal.

which means art galleries, lofts, bad black chicks with rectangular frames, Asians and real Hip Hop.

now this is something I've been meaning to delve into for a minute.

these days, there is a correlation between education/intelligence level and art appreciation as it applies to hip hop music.

see cuz, boom, you know how rich muvafuckas have the luxuries of time to explore artistic achievements and expressions.

like you may see them at galleries and musems with a clear opinion and passions about certain works.

now they have films that are called art films like woody allen's pieces or this weekends juno or even the jawn I just watched called requiem for a dream.

sometimes folks brand these movies "smart people films"
as in smart people know of and appreciate this kinda work or artistic expression.

now goin back, right, you got all kinds of art.

most of us know of paintings.
they come many different ways, still life, impressionist etc.

you got sculptures,

you got plays

literature

and music.

now boom the game is to keep poor people busy working so that they can never have the time to use thier minds to educate themselves.

so those that are uneducated rarely have a chance to appreciate art.

and on a general scale who's rich and who's poor in this country?

white people are rich.

well not always. but generally speaking, they have more money and access than the non-white people of this country.

Also most importantly, being educated is encouraged if you are white.

So what does all this mean?

Sadly, more an more, I'm finding myself running into those educated people who know more about the differences between artistic vs. commercial expression.

Me and you got a lot of the same thoughts on music and people's perception of the south.

It is what it is, and what it has been.

People in general wouldn't have to talk about these guys making strictly club music if they didn't have so many fans. That's why they get rotation at the radio stations and the video channels. Cuz someone's calling and requesting that shit. Somebody wanna hear it, and they wanna hear it over and over and over again.

I know a lot of cats down here that fuck around at open mic night that are ill hip hop heads. Takin 'em back with the rhyme patterns, break beats and all that.

But they don't pursue it as..I don't want to say means of income, but thats what it is. They don't want a deal because of how shady the industry is. It's all about the integregity of the art. That's cool. But let someone else hear it too. Even if you gotta sign to some independent label you've never heard of, and the only thing they're willing to do is help promote, or only give you a percentage of studio time costs, you gotta do it.

I hate to use the term go getter, but thats what you gotta be. You gotta at least put your work out there. Let the fans find it. Develop a fan base who will go out there and spend money to support you.
