Boyfriend: Woman lived in bathroom

Woman Sat on Toilet for 2 Years

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- A 35-year-old woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time he called police had a phobia about leaving the bathroom, the boyfriend said.

"She is an adult; she made her own decision," said her boyfriend, Kory McFarren. "I should have gotten help for her sooner; I admit that. But after a while, you kind of get used to it."

The case drew nationwide attention after Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat in the two years she apparently was in the bathroom.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

McFarren, 36, said he can't be certain how long Pam Babcock stayed in the bathroom because "time just went by so quick I can't pinpoint how long." He said beatings she received in her childhood caused her phobia.

"It just kind of happened one day; she went in and had been in there a little while, the next time it was a little longer. Then she got it in her head she was going to stay - like it was a safe place for her," McFarren said.

But McFarren said she moved around in the bathroom during that time, bathed and changed into the clothes he brought her. He brought food and water to her. They had conversations and had an otherwise normal relationship - except it all happened in the bathroom.

McFarren said he finally called police Feb. 27 after he became worried because Babcock was acting groggy - like she didn't know what was going on, except she was awake.

What emergency responders found when they went into bathroom has left residents of this small western Kansas town buzzing, and law enforcement officials incredulous.

Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.

"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."

She initially refused emergency medical services, but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said.

Whipple said the county attorney will determine whether any charges should be filed against McFarren.

McFarren, who works at an antique store, said he has been taking care of Babcock for the 16 years they have lived together. He insisted that he tried to coax her out of the bathroom every day.

"And her reply would be, `Maybe tomorrow,'" Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."

She was reported in fair condition Wednesday at a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.

Babcock has an infection in her legs that has damaged her nerves, and there is a possibility she may wind up in a wheelchair, McFarren said.

James Ellis, a neighbor, said he had known the woman since she was a child, but that he had not seen her for at least six years.

"I don't think anybody can make any sense out of it," Ellis said.

Babcock had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up, he said.

"It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."

MYA IS human just like teh rest of us, but more importantly she's a entertainer and she was able toget back up and keep the show going. Being a dancer myself, I know how critical it is from the point of impact to recovering and she did what she had to do.

My prayers are with Shawty-LO and it's amazing that when people don't know the truth about something they spread rumors that can destroy someones character.I do remember the "ATL ARTIST WITH AIDS RUMOR",and people in the comments were calling him out them.But when u have diseases like diabetes and shit, everyone handles them differently. I read people saying that my so and so has diabetes and they didn't have to go to the hospital. OK, AND!!!!!!!!!!!! My mom has lupus and she's in pain daily but she's been fighting the disease for years. J. Dilla had lupus and he passed at 37 (sorry if i'm wrong on the age, but u get the point). All we can do is pray for someone to recover fully.

And with that said, shouldnt she support the man not bash him, since she can relate? But certainly I agree in a sense. I know that the democratic party is milking this Obama thing for growth of the party. Im sure they like, wow we been sleeping. Politicians typically are busy thinking they know what the people want and need but dont spend enough time actually listening to the people. I am only registering democrat this year for purpose of supporting Obama. NEW YORK - The call girl at the center of the prostitution scandal that prompted Gov. Eliot Spitzer to resign in disgrace has been identified as a 22-year-old aspiring musician who struggled in a broken home as a child.
The New York Times reported that the real name of the woman - identified as "Kristen" in court papers alleging that Spitzer paid thousands of dollars for her services - is Ashley Alexandra Dupre.
Don D. Buchwald, a New York lawyer, confirmed to The Associated Press that he represents Dupre, but he wouldn't comment further.
Law enforcement officials have said Spitzer had a Feb. 13 tryst with Kristen and paid her $4,300, according to court papers. Spitzer said Wednesday that he's resigning.
Dupre briefly spoke to the Times about the Spitzer scandal but didn't offer details on her involvement in it.
"I just don't want to be thought of as a monster," Dupre told the Times. "This has been a very difficult time. It's complicated."
Dupre told the newspaper she had slept very little since the allegations against Spitzer were revealed, and she declined to comment when asked by the Times when she first met him and how many times they had been together.
She told the Times she was worried about paying her rent in a ninth-floor Manhattan apartment since her boyfriend recently left her. She said she was considering moving back in with her family in New Jersey.
A man who answered the phone at her mother's home in New Jersey and identified himself as Dupre's brother told The Associated Press he had no idea why Dupre would agree to be interviewed in the scandal.
"She's just trying to get through this," he said. "We are all trying to be supportive of her."
Dupre's MySpace page provides a window into her life as she went from a broken home in New Jersey to a music career in the city.
"I have been alone," she wrote. "I have abused drugs. I have been broke and homeless. But, I survived, on my own. I am here, in NY because of my music."
In an Aug. 30 blog posting on MySpace, she wrote: "The past few months have been a roller coaster with so called friends, lovers, and family ... but its something you have to deal with and confront in order to move on ..."
"What destroys me strengthens me" is the slogan next to a photograph of her. The photos show her at various places, including in a bikini on a boat in a tropical locale. The number of hits to the page soared by the tens of thousands after the story broke, and many recent postings to her page ridiculed her.
Dupre describes her favorite musical artists as Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera and Frank Sinatra, among many others.
Her Web site boasts a recording of a song, "What We Want."
"I know what you want, you got what I want," she sings. "I know what you need. Can you handle me?"
Records show she lives in Manhattan a luxury rental skyscraper called The Chelsea Landmark, where a gaggle of reporters and TV trucks quickly gathered Wednesday night. Rents there start at $3500 a month for a small studio, neighbors said. The 35-story building opened less than a year ago.
The apartments feature imported Italian tiles, 9-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling corner windows. The building has a gym with a whirlpool and yoga and Pilates studios.
Dupre apparently appeared in federal court Monday as a witness in the case against four people accused of operating the Emperors Club VIP prostitution ring.

We were in the office discussing something that kind of pissed me off. Somebody was talking about the fact that immigrants should know how to speak English. It turned into something worse by the time the discussion was over and I had to tell the people who were saying the stuff to get out of my cube before I said some shit I have no right saying at work. She basically said that since you are in America, you should know how to speak English and if you don't you shouldn't be here.

Now, I feel like this. Not every immigrant is afforded the opportunity to learn English, they have situations that could prevent them from learning the language such as dependents, the cost of learning the language and several other things that could stop them from learning english.

My question is this, do you feel that immigrants who don't speak English be deported to their native countries because they don't speak the language?

~ nope becuz u can't teach an old dog new tricks...my grandfather has been here for over thirty years, and still can't really speak english...he has made great life for me and family, he has 7 children, and 19 grandchilderen, and 1 great grandchild (by me) i have an aunt and an ucle that are chemical engineers, and the rest are very successful in what they do. He has always been a hard worker, and I guess he never had time to really just try to learn.

maybe i should take that back, becuz maybe they should learn, cuz I sure am tired of having to explain what letters in the mail say, and what's happening in the movie we watching, lol j/p

on anotha note the cleaning lady here at my job is 25 yrs old from honduras, has been here 5 yrs on her own, and refuses to learn english, becuz she said she feels silly when she tries to speak it! she hasn't seen her two children in 5 yrs, so i really don't know what she plans on doing, if she doesn't want to learn english.

Yeah, it's sad that there's so little creative development in hip hop these days. Artists need to be shown how to create music with personal and professional integrity, music that holds true to who they are, but has continuity and substance. Artists like Beans get none of the development that some artists do and need better representation by people with "art" in mind, not just numbers.

Like I said, it is sometimes impossible for someone to learn English, it could be impossible for them to even make it to the classes or pay for the classes to learn English.

Hundreds seeking housing money overwhelm Boca Authority

BOCA RATON — A crowd of more than 500 people waiting for hours this morning for housing voucher applications were dispersed by police in riot gear at the Boca Raton Housing Authority when the applications ran out sooner than expected.

The action prompted complaints that officers used excessive tactics and housing authority officials were incompetent in their planning.

Two people were arrested and six to eight people hospitalized for exhaustion during the ordeal.

Hundreds of people, mostly mothers who had spent more than eight hours in line, were forced to leave the property at 2333 W. Glades Road by 30 Boca Raton Police officers, including SWAT team members, who walked toward the crowd in unison holding their police shields up about 10:30 a.m.

"Leave or face arrest," police officers shouted at the crowd as they urged them out of the housing authority parking lot. People were made to leave the vicinity altogether, with officers forcing them to cross the street and move toward their cars.

Tracking a cop-killer's every move

Convicted cop-killer Joanne Chesimard may enjoy political
sanctuary in Cuba, but for years she has been secretly monitored by a
web of New Jersey State Police contacts that includes Cuban citizens.
The disclosure by state police investigators of their clandestine
tracking of Chesimard comes as Fidel Castro recently turned over
control of the Communist government to his brother, Raul.
In the wake of the Cuban power shift, state and federal authorities
hope to extradite Chesimard and about 70 U.S. fugitives protected by
Cuba.
For New Jersey, the big prize is Chesimard, a gun-toting member of
the militant Black Liberation Army. She was caught after a 1973
turnpike shootout that killed one state trooper and wounded another --
and left Chesimard wounded, too.
Chesimard, who changed her name to Assata Shakur, was sentenced to
life in prison for the murder of Trooper Werner Foerster. With the
help of fellow militants, she broke out of a New Jersey women's
prison in 1979 and turned up four years later in Cuba -- celebrated
as a revolutionary heroine by Fidel Castro.
In 2005, New Jersey authorities increased the bounty for her
capture to $1 million.
"We are not going away," said state police Lt. Kevin Tormey, the
chief detective on the Chesimard case since 1989.
State police officials have made no secret of their three-decade
desire to catch Chesimard, now 60 and allegedly living in the Havana
area. But this is the first time officials have publicly agreed to
describe how they have spied on New Jersey's most notorious, yet
elusive, fugitive.
Tormey and others stress that their monitoring of Chesimard does
not include covert U.S. agents or undercover state troopers on the
ground in Cuba. But their system of contacts nevertheless offers a
window into the murky world of tracking international fugitives and
underscores the tenacity by the state police to bring Chesimard home.
State police say that for a brief time in the mid-1990s, they
considered going beyond just monitoring Chesimard and arranging to
kidnap her in Cuba or lure her to another country where she could be
arrested and returned to New Jersey.
"We explored that but we never moved forward," Tormey said.
For Tormey, 45, and his 37-year-old assistant, state police
Detective Michael Rinaldi, a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School,
the Chesimard case has become a high-tech collection of information ?
including monitoring YouTube, where videos about her have been
posted. At the same time, it's an old-fashioned police case that
involves legwork and personal conversations with sources.
In his 19 years on the case, Tormey has traveled to almost a dozen
nations to interview people who met Chesimard in Cuba or knew about
her. He and Rinaldi also work on the Chesimard case with agents from
the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force in Newark.
In an interview at his office in the intelligence division of state
police headquarters in West Trenton, Tormey said some of the most
reliable information on Chesimard comes from Cubans who are
potentially risking their lives by cooperating with American law
enforcement.
The system of passing the information back to New Jersey is
complicated, though.
Even though the U.S. government restricts travel to Cuba, phone
conversations and e-mails are not as limited. Nonetheless, Tormey
said, most Cuban informants fear calling him directly to talk about
Chesimard.
"A lot of them don't want to talk over open lines," Tormey said.
One method, he said, is to pass morsels of information to relatives
in America, who then relay it to the state police. Another is to pass
information to foreign diplomats who then give it to U.S. contacts --
and then to state police.
Back in West Trenton, Tormey and Rinaldi then try to connect the
dot-like snippets on Chesimard -- her comings and goings and
observations on her health. Some is rumor; some is fact.
What results is a pointillist- like portrait -- with notable holes.
Detectives know, for example, that Cuban authorities are keeping a
close eye on Chesimard now, especially since the reward for her
capture was increased to $1 million. But detectives don't know
whether she is under some sort of house arrest or has to ask
authorities before she can go anywhere.
"She doesn't seem to have the same freedom on the island she once
had," Tormey said.
Before 2005, Chesimard was seen strolling through Havana or driving
a Volkswagen. Her phone number was even listed in a Havana telephone
directory -- under the name Assata Shakur.
Chesimard also reportedly worked as a translator for a radio
station. In some cases, she courted attention from the media ?
notably an interview on a New York television station.
But Tormey said she has not been seen in public as much in recent
years. After the $1 million bounty was announced, Fidel Castro
renewed his support for Chesimard and publicly accused the United
States of portraying her "as a terrorist, something that was an
injustice, a brutality, an infamous lie."
One of the more tantalizing contacts, Tormey said, involved a
secret operative in Cuba who was working with U.S. authorities to spy
on Robert Vesco, a Boonton Township embezzler who fled America in
1970s after contributing to President Richard Nixon's reelection in
the hope of shutting down a federal investigation of his finances.
After living in Costa Rica and the Bahamas, Vesco was
granted "humanitarian refuge" in Cuba in 1982 and reportedly placed
under the personal protection of Fidel Castro -- a status Chesimard
received, too.
By the mid-1990s, Vesco fell out of favor with Cuban authorities
and was eventually jailed in a fraudulent scheme to make an alleged
miracle drug for such ailments as cancer and arthritis.
With Vesco in prison, the undercover Cuban operative working with
U.S. federal agents contacted the state police about Chesimard.
"We started talking to this guy," said Tormey, who declined to say
whether the operative was a Cuban citizen -- or where he is now.
But plans never went beyond the talking phase.
Tormey said he hopes Raul Castro will revoke Chesimard's protected
status and send her back to New Jersey. But he has no illusions that
will happen anytime soon.
"It's been a roller-coaster ride," he says. "But there is still a
hole in the state police. We want to bring her in."

now it seems like you take -- not personal offense -- but more or less "note" of when someone is slightly critical of the south.

now on most occasions you shed light on broader subjects as they apply to our people, but it gets contradicting when you jump to the defense of the southern dudes.

people might be discussin quality or adult conduct or talent or integrity,

wider broader concepts.

but if someone is in error from the south it seems like you feel compelled to find a slant, angle or justification for it.

and that directly conflicts with your most recent position on being territorial.

dumb is dumb no matter where you from or how you dress it up.

and since we don't own none of these highways we shouldn't be defending none of these lands or regions but we'd be better suited to be more critical of ideas and concepts.

on a broad scale.

think about it for a second.
