Legendary DJ Jam Master Jay has founded the Scratch
DJ Academy. Already in it’s 3rd semester, the six week courses teach upcoming
DJ’s the history of turntablism & DJ’ing techniques. "I’m really a
fan of turntablism," Jay told AllHipHop.com. "Turntablists are musicians."
Such DJ’s as DJ Premier, Green Lantern, A-Trak,
Evil Dee, Mista Sinista, Kuttin Kandi, Roli Rho, Max Glazer and others joined
Jay to show hopeful’s such techniques as blending and mixing, song selection
and how to create a successful mixtape.
In related news, Jam Master Jay will host the
DMC’s 17th Annual US Finals, on the 23rd August at the Roxy in New York City.
Kool Herc will also make a surprise experience. "A lot of these DJ’s are
teaching classes in my scratch academy, and since I am such a fan, I would do
anything to support the DMC’s" Jay said.
