What was speculated for months in AllHipHop’s rumor section has now become confirmed reality – Dr. Dre has abandoned his highly anticipated album Detox. Instead of rhyming on the mic, the pioneering artist will stay behind the boards and produce for his stable of artists.

And, he explained his relief and reasoning in the new issue of XXL magazine.

“…I just had a birthday: I turned 39 years old. And I was just in my bedroom having pillow talk with my wife and I just came to the realization that I feel more comfortable doing what I do – producing. And at the moment, I said [it felt] like a big-a** weight was lifted off my shoulders.”

Dre said that much of his decision to give of rapping was rooted in the talent that he currently holds with artists like Busta Rhymes, Eve and newcomer The Game, who all appear on the cover with the beat maestro.

“The [current] inspiration I get is from the energy that’s these artists are giving me,” he said. “So, I totally cancelled out the idea of me doing the Detox album. I wanna work on these artists. I wanna make sure these artists come out and they can be the best that they can be.

Speculation has swirled that Dre gave the majority of the beats from Detox to 50 Cent and Busta for their upcoming efforts.

Dre said he will never record another studio album again. His last effort was Chronic 2001, which was released in November of 1999.
