Corey "C-Murder" Miller was denied
a request to be released on bond from prison today (April 12) because the rapper
still faces other felony charges.
State District Judge Martha Sassone made her
decision based on an incident in August 2001, in which Miller was charged with
attempted first-degree murder after attempting to fire a shot at the owner of
a Baton Rouge nightclub.
Ronald Rakosky, Miller’s lawyer, argued that
Miller should be released because the state has not pursued the charges in over
two years.
Miller also faces a charge of battery on a prison
guard, after he allegedly attacked a guard inside of the Jefferson Parish jail.
He will faces those charges in court in June.
Miller was granted a new trial last week after
a judge ruled that prosecutors withheld information about the criminal pasts
of several witnesses.
