Queens rapper Mr. Cheeks is preparing his third
solo album, Ladies and Ghettomen, but not without some legal problems.
Mr. Cheeks founded Legal Drug Money Records to
release his music independently in a partnership with Contango Records, a company
partially owned by underground rapper Breez Evahflowin.
However, Cheeks was under contract to another
label, The Commission Records. He won an injunction against the label to prevent
them from releasing his music, claiming they violated the terms of his recording
contract.
The Commission Records was planning to release
their own version of Ladies And Ghettomen, which would have conflicted
with his release of the same name.
Legal woes
aside, the album features production by Pete Rock & CL Smooth and boasts
a remake of Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s "The Girl Is Mine."
"We’re just regular street guys that like
to party, spend money, love the women and enjoy life," Cheeks said. "That’s
what the album is mainly about."
The first single from the new album is "It’s
Alright" featuring Truth Hurts. Ladies and Ghettomen hits stores
in September.
