Rapper
Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC fame, will host the “Women
and Aids in Africa” benefit dinner and silent auction on Thursday (May
12th). The dinner will help support Harvard’s Aids Initiative’s
(HAI) effort to combat the AIDS pandemic in Africa, where nearly half of the
25 million women in sub-Saharan Africa are infected with the disease. "We
need to make people aware that AIDS is still killing people everyday, and the
people in Africa are hardest hit with the epidemic especially women and children,”
DMC said in a statement. “The scientists and researchers at HAI are doing
something about it, and they are really helping us all have hope for the future.”

A bronze statue in honor of the “Godfather of Soul” James Brown will be erected today (May 6) at 5 p.m. in Brown’s hometown of Augusta, Georgia in celebration of the music legend’s 72nd birthday Tuesday (May 3). A life-size statue of Brown, designed by Augusta physician and sculptor Dr. John Savage, will be dedicated during a ceremony that includes a prayer of dedication from the Rev. Al Sharpton, a former road manager for Mr. Brown, and comments from Brown, one of the first Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees (1986). The City of Augusta and Major Bob Young, together with the Augusta Downtown Development Authority and private donations will reveal the statue of Brown, holding a microphone and wearing his trademark cape, across from the Augusta Common in downtown Augusta.

Stars Under 25.” The teen magazine’s annual list also included Jessica
and Ashlee Simpson, Jesse McCartney, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys and Ciara.

WWE
wrestler John Cena is preparing to release his debut Hip-Hop album, You
Can’t See Me
. Cena, who will defend his WWE title May 22, told MTV.comthat he wasn’t the usual token rapper/wrestler. "The guy you see
on Thursday nights doing his thing is repping for hip-hop," Cena said.
"He’s not just out there because they need the hip-hop guy. I’m not exactly
the poster child for the movement, but I do what I do because I love it."
The album hits stores May 10th.
