The Los Angeles man charged with assaulting rapper/producer Dr. Dre at the Vibe Awards last November has been ordered to go on trial, a judge ruled Friday (May 6).

Los Angeles Judge James Dabney said that enough evidence existed to try Jimmy James Johnson, 26, who allegedly punched Dr. Dre after asking the Aftermath head for an autograph.

Dre, 40, had been preparing to go on stage to receive a lifetime achievement award when he was allegedly punched.

The incident incited a huge brawl during the taping of the awards show on November 15.

Johnson’s alleged attack also initiated chair throwing that extended into the crowd.

G-Unit rapper Young Buck, born David Darnell Brown, is accused of stabbing Johnson after Dre was hit.

Buck has pleaded not guilty and is free on bail pending his trial.
