Wyclef Jean will host

a free concert and rally on Saturday, May 21 in New Haven, Connecticut in support

of workers fighting for union rights and to negotiate the impact of a proposed

cancer center on the local community.

Jean is the star attraction

at the rally, which is co-hosted by The Service Employees International Union

Local 1199, the biggest health care union in the United States.

The day includes a march

and a free 90 minute concert, on behalf of New Haven based group Community Organized

for Responsible Development (CORD) and Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) workers

that are currently fighting for a union.

Jean will take to the stage

between 3 and 4 p.m. and will then lead a march of residents, religious leaders,

hospital workers, political figures and labor leaders through the streets of

New Haven to the Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Jean, along with

local leaders, will demand that Yale-New Have Hospital sign a community benefits

agreement over the impact of the proposed cancer center on the community, stop

abusive debt practices to patients lacking adequate insurance and agree to a

fair union election process for over 1,800 YNHH workers.
