A Los Angeles man pleaded guilty Wednesday to attacking Hip-Hop producer Dr. Dre at the 2004 Vibe Awards in Santa Monica.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner sentenced Jimmy James Johnson, 27, to one year in county jail, a punishment that includes three years of probation for the felonious assault.
According to previous reports, Johnsonapproached Dre (real name is Andre Young) for an autograph as the rap mogul was set to receive a lifetime achievement award. Johnson then, seemingly without provocation, attacked Dr. Dre, which caused a huge fracas that included members of 50 Cent’s G-Unit.
According to police, G-Unit member Young Buck stabbed James Johnson after Johnson’s assault of Dre. Johnson suffered a collapsed lung in the aftermath of the attack and was immediately hospitalized.
Young Buck awaits trial for the alleged stabbing, but has a pretrial motion on Sept. 26 at Airport Branch Courthouse in Santa Monica.
A judge decree also prevents Johnson from going near Dr. Dre for three years into the future.
