At 2 p.m. today (Sept. 19), Lil’ Kim reported to a Federal Detention Center to begin serving her 366-day prison sentence for perjury and conspiracy.
It was believed that Kim (real name Kimberly Jones) was to serve her sentence at a minimum-security federal camp.
Prison officials were rumored to be considering sending Kim to Alderson, West Virginia or a facility in Danbury, Connecticut.
Those reports turned out to be false and the Brooklyn rapper was ordered to serve her time in the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center.
The detention center houses over 1,100 inmates, most of whom are awaiting criminal
trials or sentencing.
The Queen Bee, who was none to pleased about the decision, had this to say:
“I have unfortunately been assigned to a federal detention center instead of a prison camp as discussed, in the City of Philadelphia. I am not certain that this constitutes fair & equal treatment,” states Kim. “However, today
begins a new saga in my life which I expect to strengthen me and allow me time for
reflection. I am blessed to have so many great things in my life – family, friends, and God. All will be in my thoughts daily. I plan to write
music while in prison, read and pray regularly and will come out a stronger, more confident woman.”
Kim also expressed her sincere thanks to the fans that have supported her.
“I will write many of my fans, and expect the ‘Lil Kim’ brand to be even bigger when I come out – I am just getting started in my career…Thanks to all for their thoughts and prayers…and I will see you soon.”
Earlier this year, the former protégé of the Notorious B.I.G. was convicted of lying to a grand jury regarding the 2001 shooting in front of Hot 97?s radio station.
Kim’s former manager Damion “D-Roc” Butler and bodyguard Suif “Gutta” Jackson turned State’s evidence and pleaded guilty to charges related
to the shooting.
Their testimony also directly contradicted Kim’s account to a grand jury, in which she indicated that she didn’t know Jackson and that Butler wasn’t present at the time of the shooting.
Kim was eventually convicted of perjury and conspiracy.
Her new album, The Naked Truth drops on September 27.
