The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) has called for all young adults ages 18-35 to vote today (Nov.7) in the Congressional elections for U.S. House of Representative and Senate seats.
In 2004, HSAN established a voting initiative called “Hip-Hop Team Vote” to register, educate and mobilize millions of young adults to vote each years in state and nation-wide elections.
“This is a pivotal time for the Hip-Hop community to come together and let our voices be heard,” HSAN’s Co-Chairman Russell Simmons told AllHipHop.com. “Change can only come through action and intention and what better way for our community to make its intention known than to go out to the polls and exercise the right that has been fought for you to claim.”
According to U.S. election data, 33 of the 100 available senate seats will be on the ballot for today’s election, with 36 of the 50 U.S. state governors up for either election or retirement.
All 440 seats (435 voting and 5 non-voting) in the House of Representatives will be on the ballot, with results of the election determining the 110th U.S. Congress.
“The Hip-Hop vote today is the most important youth vote ever,” Dr. Ben Chavis added. “Our Hip-Hop Team Vote program is getting out the vote in record numbers across America as a mighty force for freedom, justice and equality.”
Notable races included on the ballot will be New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s spot for her second term in office, as well as California’s Diane Feinstein’s third-term race against seven other opponents.
