G-Dep was released from Rikers Island prison last week and is currently working
on a comeback album. G.
Dep, born Trevell Coleman, knocked around New York’s underground scene before
landing a $350,000 contract to record for Sean "Diddy" Combs’ Bad Boy
Record label. After
several high profile appearances on albums like Black Rob’s Life Story,
Diddy’s Forever and The Notorious B.I.G.’s Born Again, G. Dep hit
the charts in 2001 with the single "Special Delivery," which also featured
a remix featuring Ghostface Killah, Keith Murray and Craig Mack.The
rapper was arrested last month, for breaking a display model mobile phone, during
an argument at a T-Mobile store in Manhattan. According
to the New York Daily News, G. Dep’s bail was set at $750, but he stayed
on Rikers Island for almost a month, because he could not come up with the money.
G. Dep’s
$350,000 contract requires him to record five albums for Bad Boy. He released
one album, Child of the Ghetto in 2001, but the rapper has spent most of
his money. "There’s
a lot of things I should have looked into," G. Dep said. "At the time,
I didn’t think about it too much."G.
Dep is hitting the studio this week with hopes of jump-starting his career. He
is also planning a tour, as well as a new song and video.
