Rapper Paperboy, best known for his platinum 1993 single “Ditty” was arrested on Wednesday evening, after police stopped his car and found $1,200 worth of marijuana.
Paperboy, born Mitchell Johnson, had been under investigation for several weeks according to the Merced Sun-Star.
Merced, California police stopped the rapper around 6:30 pm on Wednesday and a search of his vehicle uncovered the marijuana.
Authorities also obtained a search warrant for his residence, but a sweep of the house with a K9 unit did not produce anything illegal.
Paperboy was arrested and charged with transportation of marijuana for sale, suspicion of possession and sale of marijuana and possession of more than one ounce of marijuana.
His bail is set at $20,000.
Paperboy’s million selling single “Ditty” hit #2 on Billboard’s 24 chart in 1993.
The song is taken from the rapper’s gold-selling album, The Nine Yards.
