I’m on my cartoon ish this Saturday. I don’t know what you guys used to do on a Saturday morning, but I used to get it in with all the cartoons. Nowadays, I get my sleep in as much as possible, but I used to love the cartoons. I am about to get very random right now, but I can do that. I’m illseed! So, I’m not going to get too corny this time. I’m going to try to keep it Hip-Hop to a certain extent, but cartoon as well.

If y’all are down, you know what time it is…and if you aren’t down, you are about to be!Word to my homey, Black Vulcan!

THE KOOL HERC CONNECTION!

Kool Herc, Hip-Hop’s founding father, used to run with a crew called The Herculoids. Guess where they got their mighty name? That’s right, this cartoon!

SPIDERMAN: THE ORIGINAL

Check me out, yo! Spiderman is and was the illest. I could always relate to him! He was Hip-Hop, man! How else can you explain a nerd (the rapper) turning into a superhero (the rapper with a deal and on stage).

Spiderman bonus: The Revenge of Dr. Octopus. Check out this episode of the old Spiderman, before the zillion dollar budgets.

THUNDERCATS, THUNDERCATS – H-WOOOOOORRRRRRRRRD!

Everybody from Joe Budden to Das EFX has made reference to the Thundercats. On my word, they made a real-life version of this and Wesley Snipes played Panthro. Anyway, I posted that picture up a ways back. Anyway, I know Lion-O used to say, “HOOOOOOOOOO,” but I bet he couldn’t get away with that war cry these days. They’d shut son down!

THE INCREDIBLE DAVID BANNER!

I’m sure most of you are too cool to remember that rapper David Banner derives his name from comic book called the Incredible Hulk. But, he did! This isn’t a cartoon, but it is the intrro to the original series of the Hulk. It ran in syndication on the Fantasy Channel or whatever it’s called. Anyway.

Here is the cartoon version of the Hulk from the 80’s.

WONDER TWINS – ACTIVATE!

You know rapper Skillz? He used to be Mad and he used to be down with a VA-based crew called the Superfriends (or Supa Friends). Later on down the line, Soulja Boy is disrespecting the legacy trying to “Superman Dat Hoe.” At any rate, you and I know where this came from! The original crew with Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, the Wonder Twins and all the rest of the crew! Check out the intro!

THE LEGION OF DOOM!

And you know Keith Murray had the Legion of Doom, his rap crew. ( Where the hell is Kel Vicious?) In the cartoon world ths was the crew that were the sworn enemy of the Justice League of America aka The Superfriends on Steroids (Pause and No Barry Bonds)! Green Lantern is in here with no Jadakiss as an arch-enemy – HOLLA DEN!

SPEAKING OF DOOM!

Where do you think MF Doom got his inspiration? DR. DOOM! Check out this video. Doom looks a lil’ goofy though.

There really is no Hip-Hop connection, but I ask: What do you know about G-Force aka Battle of the Planets? I know Ghostface does!

The Flash? Now, this cartoon came way before my time, but I thought it was cool after I stumbled on it. Before Dash, was The Flash.

BONUS CARTOONS – AT YOUR REQUEST

OK, since I’m really not doing anything right now, here are some bonus videos based on the requests.

G.I. JOE – A REAL AMERICAN HERO!

My dude was Snake Eyes and on the villain side, Destro!

HE-MAN – BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!

He-Man was the man too! I can’t front. Dude had more muscles than any superhero! They said He-Man might have been gay, but I can’t say that. He used to have a thing for Te-La. You can see their music video below.

SHE-RA AND HE-MAN – LET’S GET THAT POWER!

TRANSFORMERS – OK, I FORGOT!

Transformers were the illest, for sure. That movie this year really sucked compared to what the Transformers really were. Megatron wasn’t even a gun! How are you going to have Megatron on some weak stuff? Rapper Craig G used to have a song called “Transformers!”

Anyway, there you go! Feel free to do whatever you want for the the rest of the day. Me, I am going to the movies or something and get my Siskel and Ebert on. (Shout out to Gene Siskel – you still alive to me, baby boy!)
