ILLSEED SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS CONTINUES…

SATURDAY MORNINGS…Will NEVER BE THE SAME!

Recently, you have been hearing grumblings of people unhappy with Bill Cosby for expressing his opinions of different people, including Hip-Hop. A lot of people feel he is just an older man that may be out of touch with the youth, but I don’t think so. First of all, Bill was saying similar things when Eddie Murphy was coming up and talking dirty. Secondly, Bill is Bill and you know you can’t talk trash on an O.G. that has given so much of himself. Lastly, Bill Cosby gave cats like me “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.” That was the “hood” that Bill grew up in – the type of hood where you learned lessons and had fun on a Saturday.

This is the lead-in cartoon as I move the series from the Superhero genre of cartoon into more fun stuff. Hopefully, some of the girls will come back and chop it up! I definitely don’t want to exclude anybody.

So, I christen this shift with Bill Cosby and his Cosby Kids. Also, I will have up some Cosby specials later on down the line.

FAT ALBERT AND THE COSBY KIDS!

Look how young Bill Cosby looked! He was a young pioneer, not an old one! Step it up!

SCOOBY DOO – WHERE ARE YOU?

Front of you want, Scooby Doo was the illest dog on TV! He might have been scared all the time, but you rode with him and his crew until they caught the fraud. Now, this cartoon has gone through a lot of changes. It has been retooled with a lil’ scoob named Scrappy Doo and they made a movie out of it. I even had a lil’ crush on Daphne!

On top of it all, Pete Rock sampled the “scary music” of Scooby Doo for a song called “Verbal Murder,” a song that featured Big Pun, NORE and Common. THIS SONG WAS/IS CLASSIC! You had to watch the whole cartoon to hear this “scary” part!

INSPECTOR GADGET!

Some rap group in the 80’s had a song about Inspector Gadget! He was the man! Go-Go-Gadget!

PAC-MAN!

Before there was a Pac Man that tried to take his money back after making it rain, there was this hot video game of the same name. Pac-Man would later become a TV show and cartoon and Beanie Sigel would sample it on his first album (Mac Man!)!

HONG KONG PHOOEY – NO. 1 SUPER GUY!

Now, Hong Kong Phooey didn’t last as long as some of the others in the historical perspective, but he had it poppin’ back in the day. A dog, who is a janitor, who is a super hero dog? What? You can’t beat that! Kong Kong was voiced by a legendary brother named Scatman Crothers and if you know that you know that he’s been in everything from “The Shining” to voicing Jazz from “The Transformers” to “Roots: The Saga of an American Family (1977)” Check out some of his lighter work: Hong Kong Phooey! RIP Scatman!

TOM AND JERRY – THE FIRST FRENEMIES!

Here is a whole episode of Tom and Jerry, “His Mouse Friday.” Yo! I had no idea how far back Tom and Jerry went. I think it started out in the early 60’s! Amazing!

THE FLINTSTONES! A YABBBA DABBA DOO TIME

I think “The Flintstones” was the only cartoon where you could say, “Lets have a gay, ol’ time and nobody looked at you funny. Straight up, cats said this is what it is! But then, “gay” meant happen first and formost. Here is the classic intro to The Flintstones.

THE FLINTSTONES SMOKED?!

The Flintstones are so old, they used to get pimped into peddling cigarettes to kids back in the day! Don’t smoke kids – you’ll get cancer!

THE JACKSON 5IVE CARTOON!

That’s right, Michael Jackson and the crew had a cartoon back in the day. Until you have one, don’t say nothing about Mike nose or Jermaine’s hair! Check out the spins!

MUHAMMAD ALI: THE CARTOON!

OK, I have never seen this cartoon a day in my life, but somebody requested it! So, now you know about “I Am the Greatest” The Muhammad Ali Cartoon.

JOSIE AND THE P#### CATS?

What were they REALLY trying to tell kids back in the day? This is definitely some subliminal stuff that adults slipped in there. I think Rosario Dawson played in the real life version, but I could be wrong. Check it out.

DASTARDLY AND MUTTLEY!

This might be going too deep for yall! If I am, let me know and I will fall back. Check out “Fly By Knights,” the whole cartoon. “You need glasses!”

PEBBLES AND BAMM BAMM GREW UP?

I didn’t watch this too much, but they did do a spin-off cartoon with just the kids of The Flintstones. Only thing is, Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty didn’t get any older as their kids turned into teens. This is way better than that corny “Cavemen” show.

SESAME STREET…DON’T FRONT, MR. RAPPER!

I know it’s not a cartoon, but its real ish! Back in the day, if you say you didn’t watch Sesame Street, you fronting! I bet Jay-Z, Biggie, Pa, Master P, Baby from Cash Money and Kool G Rap all used to watch Sesame Street! Anyway—peep it! Kid Nation before Kid Nation.

POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN!

Man, Popeye has been around forever! I had no idea that dude is older than some North American dirt! He’s 78 this year, I think! This is the first ever Popeye and it has the intro music about a minute in. Popeye chilled with Betty Boop.

Some people are even voting for Popeye in 2008. I like Obama!

We’re JUST getting started. Hit me with your suggestion and we’ll get it popping!

TOMORROW, WE LOVE YOU!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!
