MTV will premier two new specials this week to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Sean John, America’s fastest growing men and women’s sportswear line.The first, a documentary entitled If I Were King, will debut on MTV at 10pm EST tonight (Apr 9).Following an encore of If I Were King on Saturday (Apr 12), the network will present Diddy’s latest search special, Sean John: Internship by Design.”MTV has had a successful programming partnership with Diddy both in front of and behind the camera,” said Tony DiSanto, Executive Vice President of Series Development & Programming for MTV. “We allow him a platform for the diverse scope of his creative vision and always welcome his ideas, from series to movies.”The documentary If I Were King, follows fashion and entertainment mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs as Sean John makes it’s return to the runway for the first time in five years.If I Were King will be presented as the dream of a prince in 2020, who is transformed into the great leader he was meant to be as he discovers his destiny through love and war.Viewers will be granted an inside look into the action of New York’s Fashion Week, as well as a private look at Diddy’s own journey to prominence.”I am so excited that this documentary is airing at such a crucial moment for the Sean John brand,” said the Bad Boy CEO, who is also celebrating a milestone year for his music label with the success of albums from groups Danity Kane and Day 26.“What better way to emblazon the current success of the brand and to recognize our unbelievable past. I am honored with the opportunity to present this to the world and to highlight what I have put into this show and this business of Sean John,” Diddy continued. “It is extremely important to me to allow people in to see all the blood, sweat and tears that went into the Sean John show and to relay the important message of honor and ambition and going forward with a dream and there is no one better to portray this message than MTV.”Prior to the Internship by Design premiere on Saturday, viewers will have the opportunity to follow four fashion students through a series of three challenges that will culminate in a runway competition.The challenges will call on the contestants to create their own designs, following Diddy’s instructions.The contestants will be first challenged to “Preserve The Sexy” by revamping outfits from Sean John’s inaugural 1998 line to reflect the style of today.Their second challenge, “Dressing The Band,” will call on the young designers to create a one of the kind look for one of the ladies of Danity Kane.Finally, they will be given a classic suit or dress to which they will add their own twist to create a red carpet ready look in the “Red Carpet Remix.”The Sean John: Internship By Design special will feature professional models donning the would-be interns’ designs in a live fashion show, complete with a performance by Atlantic Records artist Flo Rida.The contestants will be evaluated by a panel of celebrity judges consisting of designer Zac Posen, celebrity stylists June Ambrose and Marni Senofonte, and of course, Diddy himself.
