New Jersey students will get a first-hand account about the consequences of gang violence when West Coast rap star the Game makes an appearance at a school in Newark, New Jersey.
The Compton, California born rapper, who will serve as the spokesperson for the city’s Peace in Our Streets rally, will speak to youth about violence on the street at 3:30 p.m. EST Thursday (June 12) at the George Washington Carver School Playground.
According to organizers, the Game’s past trials and tribulations provide a solid basis for the rapper to encourage attendees to choose a different path follow this summer.
“I know first hand what gang violence does to our community and that is why I’m doing ‘Peace in Our Streets’ today,” The Game told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “Even though I rap about my experience in my community and grew up in that environment doesn’t mean I uphold its concepts.”
The Game’s visit comes amid troubling times for Newark, as the city’s residents struggle with living in one of the most violent areas in New Jersey.
Organizers hope to the event will provide the public with an informative, entertaining and safe environment that can be held on the same streets that are plagued with violent crimes.
The Game is currently enjoying the release of his latest single, “Game’s Pain.”
The song, which features Keyshia Cole, is the first single from the rapper’s forthcoming album L.A.X. (Los Angeles Times).
