Despite the arrest of a primary suspect in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother Friday (October 24), the search continues at this hour for the Academy Award winning actress’ 7-year-old nephew.

Julian King was believed to have been at the South Side Chicago home of his grandmother, 57-year-old Darnell Hudson Donerson, when she and her 29-year-old son were killed.

According to police spokesperson Joseph Patterson, neighbors of the Hudson family home on S. Yale Avenue reported hearing gunshots between 8 am -9 am.

The bodies were discovered by authorities around 3 pm Friday afternoon.

An Amber Alert was almost immediately issued for Julian, who was believed to be with the primary suspect William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia.

Balfour, who served 7 years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking, and possession of a stolen vehicle, was taken into custody around 10 pm last night.

However, he has refused to provide authorities any information that could lead to Julian King’s whereabouts.

The Chicago Police Department is investigating reports that the murders may be tied to an ongoing dispute about a car.

Neighbors reported an argument between Julia Hudson and her estranged husband over a vehicle which Balfour either attempted to steal or sold without Julia’s permission.

Sources say that during a heated argument, Balfour threatened to kill Julia’s family as revenge.

Authorities report they are also questioning other individuals in custody.
