Rapper/producer Don P has enlisted the support of Polow Da Don in crafting his first major release as a solo artist.
The Trillville front man revealed to AllHipHop.com exclusively that he is joining Polow’s Zone 4, Inc. imprint and prepping the release of his debut album, Global Warning.
Between the 2004 release of Trillville’s shared debut Kings of Crunk & BME Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil’ Scrappy and their 2008 follow up, Straight Up. No Chaser, Don P released two solo mixtapes, Target Practice and Target Practice 2, with the support of DJ Scream.
He also established himself as one of the South’s young producers to watch. Ironically, the relationship that brought him to Zone 4, Inc. was in fact built around production.
“Me and Polow always been cool,” Don P told AllHipHop.com. “I always go to him and try to sell beats to his artists. He always bought beats from me. And I was like, you know what, f**k that. I’m cool with the beats, but I’m about to crank this s**t back up. So I gave Polow a couple of my solo tracks that I did and he was f**kin’ wit it. He said it one time, and it was small talk. And the small talk grew into real talk. Cuz he was really feeling what I was doing. And that’s when he was like, ‘Let’s get everybody on the horn and let everybody know we ‘bout to collaborate.’ It’s gon’ be a massive project.”
Global Warning promises to be a departure from what Don P’s fans have come to expect from him.
However, the album will fit in with Polow’s eclectic portfolio, which includes hits records by Pop/R&B divas Ciara, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger and Mya, as well as Hip-Hop stars Ludacris, Birdman, Rich Boy, Nelly, Snoop Dogg and Young Buck.
The album will introduce a genre-melding sound which Don P has branded “Rave Rap.”
“I’ve always been a rave fan,” Don P explained. “We spent a lot of time in Germany and I really fell in love with the Rave s**t. A lot of my beats are Rave-based, but the thing is about what I do is that I add bass to it. So it’s a Rave sound, but the Hip-Hop comes with the bass and the snare. Basically it’s for all the people that work hard all day and who just like to let loose at the end of the day.”
Don P is currently prepping the release of his first solo single, “Money All The Time,” which borrows from Eddie Murphy’s 1985 hit single “Party All The Time.”
He also continues to enjoy the success of the latest release in the Target Practice series, which hit internet retailers in May.
He is also back in the studio recording with Trillville.
A release date for Global Warning has yet to be announced.
