Jay-Z finally addressed the infamous incident in which Lil Mama hopped on the stage during the rapper’s finale performance with Alicia Keys during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

 

Yesterday (September 23), Jay-Z called into The Angie Martinez Show on Hot 97 and addressed the incident, when Lil Mama interrupted the performance of “Empire State of Mind.”

 

“Me personally, I would never do that. I would never have the nerve to do that,” Jay-Z said. “We went to rehearsals and went did run through and we worked really hard at the performance to put on a show for people.”

 

Jay-Z said Lil Mama was wrong for interrupting the performance and compared the incident to Kanye West’s stage crashing antics.

 

“I actually thought it was equivalent to what Kanye did to Taylor Swift, but nobody really talked about that because I’m not a sweet little girl from the middle of America.”

 

In related news, Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 is the #1 album in the country for a second week in a row, moving 297,911 copies.

 

The single “Empire State of Mind” is also the #1 selling Digital Single in the country Selling 205k copies.

 

Jay-Z is currently performing with Coldplay in the UK and will return to the United States October 9.
