On Saturday, October 17, Detroit’s Hip-Hop community will come together to celebrate, honor and support one of their own.
Artists including Royce Da 5’9, Slum Village and Trick Trick are set to perform at the legendary St. Andrews Hall in a benefit concert billed the “F*ckin ‘Get Better Bro’ Benefit.”
Proceeds for the event, being held from 9pm to 2am, will go to Detroit mainstay Hex Murda to assist with medical bills and other expenses his family has incurred since the writer, manager and business man suffered a massive stroke last month.
“Hex is the bridge between a lot of different families,” said Royce Da 5’9. “He’s the reason why a lot of different families are not fighting with each other.”
News of Hex Murda’s condition spread quietly among friends and supports on Twitter, when the hashtag #weloveuhex began appearing in tweets, just hours after the outspoken Detroit elder statement had been joking online about the MTV Video Music Awards.
However, out of respect for his family’s privacy, details were not revealed until days later. Today, Hex Murda, who is a regular columinst for AllHipHop.com, remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of an area hospital.
Born Eugene Howell, Hex, who currently manages producer Black Milk and rapper Guilty Simpson, is considered one of the most important behind the scenes power brokers in the Detroit Hip-Hop community.
“He’s one of the reasons why Detroit is one unified front,” Royce continued. “That’s a big deal to us. So the whole city’s gonna rally behind him in a major way and do whatever we gotta do financially, physically, whatever we gotta do.”
The “F*cking Get Better Bro’ Benefit for Hex Murda will also feature performances by Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Paradime, Fatt Father & Marv Won as the Fatt Killahz, Phat Kat, Danny Brown and DJ House Shoes.
Every person admitted to the venue will be required to pay the $10 cover. St. Andrew’s Hall is located at 431 E. Congress in Detroit.
