Fans hoping to see a Lil Mama-free performance of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” during the opener of the World Series will have to wait one more day.

The duo were supposed to open the World Series tonight with a rendition of the hit single, which pays homage to New York City.

According to representatives for MLB, inclement weather is the reason the highly anticipated performance has been delayed one day.

“Staging for the performance could adversely impact the field if it is wet, creating damaged and unsafe playing conditions,” a rep for MLB said in a statement today (October 28).

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance has been rescheduled for Thursday’s pre-game ceremonies, which will air on FOX starting at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Game 1 of the 2009 World Series starts tonight at 7:30 on Fox.
