R&B singer Beyonce Knowles as the big winner during the 52 Annual Grammy Awards tonight (January 31) in Los Angeles.
The former Destiny’s Child singer collected six Grammys on Sunday (Jan. 31) for song of the year, best female R&B vocal performance and best R&B song Grammys for her hit “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”
She also collected honors for best contemporary R&B album for I Am…Sasha Fierce and best traditional R&B vocal performance for her cover of the Etta James classic “At Last.”
In the Hip-Hop category, Jay-Z has won two Grammy’s for “Run This Town” (Best Rap Song) and “Death of Autotune” (Best Rap Performance).
Eminem also won two for “Crack a Bottle featuring 50 Cent and Dr. Dre” (Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group) and Relapse (Best Rap Album). The Black Eyed Peas have won two.
The popular group won Best Pop Performance By a Group or a Duo for their song “I Got A Feeling,” and Best Pop Vocal Album for The E.N.D.
Jamie Foxx performed the hit single “Blame It” flanked by a bevy of beauties, along with an orchestra conducting, white wig wearing T-Pain, who shed the fake hair and joined Foxx during the second half of the performance.
Hip-Hop pioneer Doug E. Fresh appeared in a black tuxedo and provided beat boxing services for Foxx and T-Pain, backed by Gun-N-Roses guitarist, Slash. “Blame It” also won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.
Hip Hop soul queen Mary J. Blige also took the stage as she conjured up thoughts of the devastation in Haiti while performing a duet of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with famed vocalist Andrea Bocelli.
The song is currently available as an iTunes/Target.com download with all proceeds from its sale going to the American Red Cross for earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti.
Neo-soul crooner’s Maxwell reemergence after an eight-year absence was noted as he earned a best male R&B vocal performance award for “Pretty Wings” and best R&B album for BLACKsummer’s Night.
Ziggy Marley was recognized with a Grammy for best children’s musical album for Family Time, while his brother Stephen brought home the award for best reggae album for Mind Control – Acoustic.
In gospel, Grammys were given to Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary, Israel Houghton and Heather Headley.
Other winners during the evening included Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Jason Mraz, Bruce Springsteen, Kings of Leon and others.
