Floyd Mayweather has missed a deadline for a boxing showdown with Manny Pacquiao, causing insiders to speculate that a fight between the two men won’t happen this year.

Negotiations between the two men had been happening quietly, outside of the media and behind closed doors. There was an internal deadline set for Friday July 16, 2010. Those close to the situation have said on record that Pacquiao had agreed to all of Mayweather’s demands, including blood testing.

Earlier this year, Mayweather had accused Pacquiao – with or without cause – of taking performance-enhancing drugs, a charge Pacquiao denied.

“Floyd for whatever reason, and I’m sure he’s got some valid reason, did not want to commit,” said Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum in press conference early morning Saturday.

Now, Pacquiao likely seeks a possible fight with either Antonio Margarito or Miguel Cotto.

Mayweather didn’t comment to either the press nor Pacquiao’s camp.
