(AllHipHop News) Rapper Wyclef Jean will appeal a ruling by Haiti’s provisional electoral body (CEP), that barred him from running for President of Haiti in the November elections. Wyclef’s team of lawyers will appear in court in  today (August 23rd) to try and have the decision overturned which disqualified him from the race, on the basis of his lack of citizenship in the country, although a reason was not cited. The law claims that a person must have residency in Haiti for five consecutive years. The rapper will claim that he meets all residency requirements, since outgoing President Rene Preval appointed him as roving ambassador in 2007, allowing him to travel and live outside of Haiti. “Our Lawyers are appealing the decision of the CEP,” Wyclef Jean tweeted. “We have met all the requirements set by the laws. And the law must be Respected.”According to the New York Times, the decision could further delay the election process, as there is currently no legal mechanism for contesting an election eligibility decision. “I will be seeking a solution through legal channels, and I urge my countrymen to be patient,” Wyclef said in a statement.
