(AllHipHop News) A 34-year-old Newark, New Jersey man has been arrested and charged with murdering Robert “Screw” Montanez, road manager for R&B singer Akon. Police have charged Almalik Ward, 34, with the shooting death of Montanez, who was gunned down outside of a New Jersey bar on December 16th, 2004. Montanez was killed when he attempted to prevent Ward from robbing rapper Capone of Capone-N-Noreaga of his jewelry outside of the Ringside Bar in Jersey City, New Jersey, as Capone taped a promotion with R&B singer Akon.“It was about 5 of us in front of the spot,” Rodini Almonacy, co-Publisher of Promo Mag, told AllHipHop.com shortly after the shooting.  “We were discussing putting Capone in the magazine. This guy went through us and tugged on Capone’s chain. Capone said ‘you got one more time to touch my chain.’ The guy was like ‘what?’ That’s when Screw came in between them.”Almonacy said a fight broke out between Montanez and the man. After wrestling on the ground, the man shot Montanez twice in the chest and then fired at the crowd.”The guy who shot him wasn’t threatened; all he had to do was walk away. Not only did he try to take the chain, he shot somebody,” Almonacy said. “I think it was premeditated and they were scheming on Capone.”According to police, Ward has been a suspect in the invitation, but it was only recently that witnesses came forward to positively identify Ward as the shooter. Almalik Ward’s bail has been set at $1 million in cash.
