Sausage Awards: Very Bad Hip-Hop Beef In 2010

The Sausage Award is an ominous one that could warrant a “pause,” but the name remains. The distinction goes to those artists and celebrities that have what we deem bad beef, hence the sausage reference. The silly beefs have feuds have got to cease and these are our award winners for the year 2010. 50 […]

The Sausage Award is an ominous one that could warrant a “pause,” but the name remains. The distinction goes to those artists and celebrities that have what we deem bad beef, hence the sausage reference. 50 Cent / Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton and The Gays got upset at 50 Cent when the G-Unit General sent out an ill-advised tweet on the popular social network Twitter. “Perez Hilton calld me d######## so I had my homie shoot up a gay wedding. wasnt his but still made me feel better,” 50 said. This is certainly Spam level, but a beef nonetheless.

MC Hammer / Jay-Z

MC Hammer took offense to Jay-Z’s reference to his 1996 bankruptcy filing in the Kanye West song “So Appalled.” Not satisfied with telling his 2 million Twitter followers of his disgust, Hammer took it to the mic with a song “Better Run Run.” The song, was beloved by Hammer loyalists and others, not so much. At the end of the day, we hated to see two elder statesmen of Hip-Hop in conflict even though Jay publicly stated he did no wrong. Regardless…bad for the culture and bad for the the business.

Nicki Minaj / Lil Kim

Once upon a time, Queen Latifah had a song called “U.N.I.T.Y.” These days, such notions are nonexistent as it relates to Kim and Nicki and their ongoing feud. The beginnings of this lyrical warfare is unclear and we’ll reserve our opinions. Still, with Nicki rocketing into the galaxy and Kim still being the Queen B to most, these two need to cut it out. Lets get the Barbz and the Beez together and start a sustained movement in the Female Hip-Hop realm.

Soulja Boy / Fabolous

This beef is rotten, but it was a definite sign of the times. Soulja Boy is well-known for his digital swag, but has recently been taking more street approach to his style. Fabolous, on the other hand, is known for his Street Fam, but has been all the rage on Twitter. So after Soulja Boy was allegedly caught with Kat Stacks in a coke-sniffing fiasco (emphasis on allegedly), Fab started a trending topic called “#stupidboyswag.” SB, in an effort to maintain his dignity lashed back! He eventually challenged Fab – a highly proficient lyricist – to a rap battle. As the temperature continued to rise, these guys just got on NYC radio and ended it as wackly as it started.

Young Jeezy / Rick Ross

What happened? Both of these Trap Stars are seemingly cut from the same cloth. Maybe not, but still. They have done songs together. They have similar content. They are both on Def Jam Records. They also have a lot of love for drug kingpin Big Meech. The only issue is that Jeezy has been cool with Meech for a much longer period than Meech who reinvigorated the incarcerated Meech in the song “BMF (Blowin’ Money Fast).” A war of words has continued in song and in various interviews. We love the music of both guys. Can’t we all just get along?
