Hip-Hop’s Role Examined In New Special “Uprising Hip Hop And The L.A. Riots”

HIP-HOP, LA RIOTS EXAMINED IN NEW SPECIAL!

(AllHipHop News) VH1 will unveil a new slate of programming this fall, and one of the specials will focus on hip-hop music’s involvement with the Los Angeles riots of 1992.

VH1’s special is currently titled “Uprising: Hip Hop and the L.A. Riots,” which will examine the Los Angeles riots from a diverse perspective of individuals, who witness the chaos firsthand.

A variety of rappers, musicians and police officers will discuss the riots of April, 1992, which left 53 people dead and over 12,000 arrested.

The Los Angeles Riot of 1992 was in response to the Rodney King verdict, in which ex-police officers were acquitted of the brutal assault, after the incident was caught on videotape by an amateur cameraman.

Participants in “Uprising: Hip Hop and the L.A. Riots” include Rodney King, John Singleton, Arsenio Hall, Too $hort, Nas, KRS-One, Sir Jinx, DJ Yella and others.

The new special is part of VH1’s Emmy award winning series “Rock Docs.”

Other artists slated to be chronicled this season include Jimmy Page, U2’s The Edge, Jack White, Michael Jackson.

The history of downloading and digital media, and a special on TRL will also air during the new season.
