Ashanti Launches New Label Written Entertainment, Taps Busta For First Single

ASHANTI TAPS BUSTA AND JERRY WONDER FOR NEW SINGLE ON HER NEW LABEL!

(AllHipHop News) R&B singer Ashanti has tapped rapper Busta Rhymes and producer Jerry Wonder to help her relaunch her career, with the new single “The Woman You Love,” the first release from her label Written Entertainment.

Ashanti will showcase her business skills as well, with the official launch of Written Entertainment, which is being distributed and marketed world wide by eOne Music.

While details about her new album will not be revealed until 2010, Ashanti released a statement to AllHipHop.com about the new deal.

“I’m so excited to have my own record label, Written Entertainment. With eOne as my distributor, I feel that their innovative and ambitious approach to the music industry, really gives my label a worldwide presence,” Ashanti told AllHipHop.com. “They have the top radio people in the business and are hungry to win! The more I learned the business the more I knew this is what I wanted. Ownership is so important. As a business woman this was a great move for me!”

When Ashanti debuted as an artist on Murder Inc., her self-titled debut hit the top of the charts and sold 504,000 copies in the first week, powered by hits like “Foolish,” and “Baby.”

She experienced turmoil in her career, after Murder Inc. CEO Irv Gotti went on trial for federal money laundering charges, which he was acquitted of in December of 2005.

According to Irv, their creative relationship suffered after the release of 2008’s The Declaration, so she was officially released from Murder Inc. in 2009.

Now, Ashanti is preparing her fifth official studio release.

“eOne is proud to have a partnership with Ashanti and her label Written Entertainment,” eOne’s President Alan Grunblatt said. “Ashanti truly has the independent entrepreneurial attitude that eOne was built on, and we’re thrilled to be working with her.”
