“King Kulture” Is Hip-Hop For A Cause

HIP-HOP CARES! READ HOW A GROUP OF RAPPERS IS MAKING A DIFFRENCE IN THE CONGO!

(AllHipHop News) Rappers are not often recognized for their charitable contributions, although many have hosted concerts to raise funds for various causes. Artists such as Jay-Z, Diddy, Rick Ross, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Green Lantern, B.o.B., and others have donated their time and ticket sales to various causes.

However, when it comes to donating proceeds from album sales, the philanthropic process can be riddled with political hurdles. Hip-Hop with a Christian bop is making a difference for African students in the Congo this winter via the website Rapzilla.com, which has produced a compilation album, King Kulture, set for release on January 31. Proceeds from the album benefit Ecole de la Borne, a school in the Congo.

“The literacy rate in the Congo is 66 percent versus 99 percent in the United States,” says Rapzilla co-owner and editor-in-chief Chad Horton. “We’re doing a project that is going to benefit people in the Congo who haven’t been afforded the same opportunities that we have in the states.”

That help comes in the form of King Kulture, a two-year project in the making. It features never before heard tracks from BET Cypher MC, Lecrae, as well as KJ-52, GRITS, Braille, Sho Baraka, Theory Hazit, Courtland ‘Xperiment’ Urbano, theBREAX, Eshon Burgundy, and more.

“This is something that hasn’t been done quite this way in Hip-Hop before – everyone coming together for a cause,” Horton said.

The first single from the compilation is by “Beautiful Eulogy,” featuring Braille, Odd Thomas, and Courtland ‘Xperiment’ Urbano.  Braille has worked with premiere rap names like 9th Wonder, S1, Rob Swift, Evidence and more. Courtland Urbano, formerly known as Xperiment, was a finalist in the Red Bull Big Tune Beat Battle.
