Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Akon Lie About Discovering Lady Gaga?

As we’ve all heard, the story goes that Akon discovered Lady Gaga when she was working at as a songwriter for Interscope Records. He saw potential in her and signed her to his record label, Kovict Music.

Well, thatcstory is a lie, according to the newest reality show star to hit the scene, Tamar Braxton.

Tamar is the younger sister of singer Toni Braxton, and she is also on two hit shows on We TV, “The Braxton Family Values” and “Tamar and Vince.” The latter is her show with her husband, mega music manager Vince Herbert. Vince is currently Lady Gaga’s manager, and according to Tamar, he is the one that discovered Gaga and not Akon. Check out what she told Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” below:

Why would she [Lady Gaga] mention Akon for? He’s a liar and the truth ain’t in him. What was the story he told? Because I was there when [Vince] discovered Lady Gaga and Akon was nowhere near. I’m just trying to be honest. I mean, from what I know, is that REDONE was his producer and so that’s how he got that credit. You know how people be stealing peoples publishing and stuff like that […] and that’s how that happened, but he didn’t find her on Myspace like this one [points to Vince] did. He didn’t find her on the roller-skates with the bikini top.

I’m sorry I just don’t like it when people be lying like that. Just tell the truth. He needs to sit down in all seats in Yankee stadium.

So according to Tamar, Vince found Lady Gaga on Myspace and pulled her into the limelight and super stardom. Interesting. Akon was in and featured on Gaga’s first mainstream music video, “Just Dance” – shouldn’t he get some credit for introducing her to the masses?
