Black Thought, Joey Bada$$ + More Perform at Statik Selektah’s Album Release Concert (Video)

Statik Selektah is a man whose greatest talent could be combining a wide variety of talents. Whether it’s an old school 60’s singer with a 90’s style rapper with a sample flip or new generation stars Joey Bada$$ with golden era vets Raekwon and Black Thought, Statik is

The release concert for his album Extended Play was no different with performances from  Termanology, Bun B, Sean Price, Young Dirty Bastard, , Troy Ave, Flatbush Zombies, Push Montana, Black Thought as well as  Joey Bada$$ and the Pro Era.

One of the most interesting parts of the show was 90’s rapper Nine surprise performance. During it the gravely voiced Bronx native rapped over DMX’s “Get At Me Dog” and addressed the many comparisons between himself and Dark Man X. While the crowd seemed unimpressed by the barrage of raspy vitriol spat at Earl Simmons, Nine went as far as to attest “I’m responsible for 70% of his flow.” He ultimately ended his set by proclaiming “I’m doing this to prove a point, I don’t sound like him.”

The show was a mixture of amateur sound mixups (Statik yelled for higher mic volume at least 5 times) and pure energy performances. Flatbush Zombies had the crowd in the palm of their hands with raucous performances of crowd favorites especially the latest release “Palm Trees”. Meechy Darko’s animated stage presence was so enthralling that one point he yelled “pass that sh*t” in the crowd and was gifted with a rolled blunt. Kickstarter for potheads.

Sean Price and Bun B ran through their extensive discography with veteran like ease and Statik even brought out Old Dirty Bastard and Big Pun’s sons to rock the stage.
